Sorry, sarcastic by nature. Was just joking with that comment. Have tried with mine. It's old enough, and low end enough, that the console won't work without batteries. Will just have to keep some on hand. @FitAgainBy55 suggested walks along with my cardio days. As we are currently dipping into single digit temps right…

Just started last week. In the past, the sore would ease as I worked out. It was getting a bit worse which is why I asked this question. I have decided that rotating would be wise so will do that. Went ahead and ordered the perfect pushup. They arrived last night along with some exercise bands with handles so I can get a…

Using the dumb bells works fairly well. Just have to make sure they're directly under me so they don't slide.
-
That's what I'm talking about though. The console panel on the elliptical takes two d cell and chews through them pretty quickly. Eh, they're all in cahoots with the companies that make batteries anyway! LOL!
-
@Jennliftsandspins apparently so. Does he have a lot of equipment? All I have right now are 10 lb dumb bells and an elliptical that needs, and chews through, batteries. Squirrel moment. Why, in this day and age of technological marvels and monstrosities, can't an exercise equipment manufacturer make a machine that is…

7 minute workout app? As in literally, an app on the phone? Which one? There are tons.

Not trying to do an impressive number of anything. Just trying to drop some weight, get in a shape other than round, and drop my A1C. I was thinking that things should be rotated. Always heard workout nuts at work talking about leg day and arm day and what not. Had just never put a lot of thought into it. Right now the…

Hello everyone. Turn 55 this year. Having been overweight most of my life, age is no excuse. Granted, we all know it gets harder as you go along. My excuse has always been not enough time to work out. Retired last month so time can no longer be used as an excuse. Right now I'm trying to set a workout routine to build on.
-
Same here. Have lost some weight a few times but always seem to hit a mental plateau where my brain says "Ok, that's enough. This is where we need to be so go back to what you were doing". Need to figure out how to prevent this.
-
Thank you. My goal weight realistically isnt the end. It's 200 pounds. I felt comfortable at that weight but in all fairness, that was 30 years ago, so we shall see. I probably need to work on the mindset of logging for the rest of my life but we shall see.
-
Fair warning, just carrying that much weight around is hurting your knees. Be cautious about going to something higher impact like jogging. I started off pushing the 300 pound mark myself and only walk and go to the gym since January and have lost over 35 pounds so far. Granted, I don't know how old you are but still. Take…

Have you tried a blue ice packet in the insulated bag to make it last a bit longer? That way you can have some chilled snacks, you'll just want to eat them first. I find that Baby Bell Light cheese makes a great snack. Beef sticks are good too but watch out for the sodium and double check the calories. Jerky is dried meat…

What I've been doing with the info from my Fitbit is allowing myself to eat back about half of the calories from exercise. I had been eating back three quarters of them but found that my weight stayed about the same. Different people will give different numbers. You need to experiment and figure out what works best for…

Supposed to become more accurate after a month or so when it "gets used" to you. You can manually set the stride. And watch out for random motions becoming steps.

Thanks @canadianlbs ! My wife posted pics of how to do the stretch and I tried them last night. Yeah, not without adult supervision for me just yet! LOL! I couldn't even stand all the way upright. Will have to build up to this one but there are enough posted to get me going. And no, not really good but it does mean that…

Oh, I can get to you tube. Just will get into trouble if I actually watch stuff on it. Hell, I can GET to Netflix. Doesn't mean it would be wise to do so! Will have to see about that particular stretch.
-
Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. @canadianlbs , what IS a couch stretch? Never heard of it before. And as I'm currently alone in my office with the exception of my inmate workers, making my co-workers opinions a bit of a moot point! Will have to check out the you tube videos when I get home. Unfortunately, I can't…

@Cherimoose , I've never been terribly flexible but since the knee injury I've really been being overly cautious walking. On top of that, I'm sitting at a desk most of the day and I have a bad habit of tucking my feet up underneath the chair.
-
Sorry, more detail would have been appropriate from me. The doctor was an Orthopedic specialist and he specified the backs of my thighs, just above the knee. Especially the outer one on the left. Its tight enough right now that I cant fully extend my left leg without a bit of pain. Not much, but enough to know there is an…
-
@TavistockToad , I don't have to do them at work but figured stretching a little bit several times throughout the day would be helpful. I have a desk job so have a tendency to sit at my desk with my feet tucked under my chair. @Cherimoose , this is about my legs. When I saw the doctor yesterday about them he specifically…

I know the yoga isn't necessary, but when we were doing it years ago it did help. Was going to google it later but thought I might look for some advice here as well. Piriformis stretch? Never heard of that one before.
-
Thanks @Cherimoose, I will have to check that out. I've vaguely heard of Beachbody haven't seen it before. The knee injury is kind of multi-level. What caused the last issue was twisting it playing, and I use the term playing VERY loosely, racquetball but its also an on going issue of arthritis starting on top of a…

Dont own a stationary bike but oddly, the bikes at the gym hurt my knees. Yes, I can step outside to work out but wont jumping rope hurt the knees?
-
Going to kind of jump to the other end of the spectrum. I'm 50 and after a lifetime of abusing my body have bad knees and a bad back. No idea what its like to go through something that extreme but I will say this, find what you CAN do and enjoy and do it. I injured my knees again about two months ago and it frustrated the…

I agree with snowflake. Weight loss wont make you happy, you need to do that yourself. Weight loss can be a part of that but there is no one thing that will make you happy. As to your motivation issue, my wife recently posted a blog here based on a post she found about motivation. In a nutshell, motivation is a positive…

Yeah, that was expected! Just wanted a general idea of what to expect and have received that. To give more detail, I'm a 50 year old male with a current calorie deficit set to lose about a pound per week. I currently get 2180 calories to start my day. I'm 5'11" with a current weight of 263. As previously stated, I've…

I had no intention of stopping no matter what. I'm 50 and have started to notice a drop in muscle mass over the last few years so definitely need to do this. I'm currently firmly in the obese range and in a calorie deficit. Refuse to call it the D word because that implies an end and I really need this to become a…

I've heard good and bad about my map run but never used it myself. I have a fitbit charge 2 and am still trying to figure out how accurate it is. It takes into consideration heart rate and elevation but I cant say that I've heard of any trackers yet that can measure resistance. Doesn't mean theyre not out there, just that…

Finding a good doctor who will actually listen to you is always a pain. I hate that my doctor retired a few years ago. He was great about actually listening to you. I've switched doctors several times since then for exactly those reasons. I understand that they have medical degrees and experience dealing with injuries.…

Get a good thermal mug. Contigo makes a good, no spill, thermal mug and they are reasonably priced. Oh, wait? Are you trying to say you drink too much?!?! Sorry, sarcastic by nature! Being serious, have you spoken with your doctor about this? If it were just during higher intensity workouts I might personally dismiss this…
