  • So jealous you have a riding partner with the same abilities, goals, etc. Have tried to do the same but w zero success. They either exaggerate their experience or give up after a couple of weeks. Congrats on yr focus
  • I also am fearing Christmas. It is always at our place. My mom and I bake all November to prepare the annual treats - meat pies, fruit pies, tarts, cookies, squares and the Christmas Dinner grand finale, Skor Trifle. Of course, Chinese Food Christmas Eve, almond croissants Christmas morning followed by a large brunch and…
  • I have lost 36 pounds since July 3 at 1600-1700 calories per day. Way higher than any other diet where I managed to lose weight. It is probably very individual and CICO does play a role but for me HFLC has been amazing and totally different than any other program from my past. Good luck.
  • My Keto strips rarely showed I was in ketosis and usually only showed anything at all late in the afternoon, like 4 pm. Got frustrated and bought the kit that measures ketones in the blood. This shows I am in ketosis pretty much all day. I don’t use it daily, anymore just as a check every few days, but it is definitely a…
  • Since you hit maintenance how many carbs do you have daily to stay at goal? I have lost weight before and gained a chunk back. Went from 310 to 170 to 250 and am now 220. Don’t want the scale to start climbing when I hit my goal. Thanks for input.
  • Calorie deficit is necessary but for me, unlike other weight loss diets I have been on, the calories are livable. My calorie aim is 1600-1700 per day and have hit 2000 occasionally and have lost 35 lbs in about 4 1/2 mnths - 255 to 220 @ 5’8”. This what makes this woe doable for me. No starving, real food.
  • FYI MSG-I nduced Obesity. MSG is actually injected in to laboratory rats to induce obesity. There are many many scientific studies done using these MSG treated rats since rats are not naturally overweight. It also has been shown to increase appetite in male rats and to induce obesity in female rats and chickens.…
  • Just curious how long you have been on HF. I found after the first 2-3 weeks I was good with 2 or even 1 meal per day. Snacking between meals was one of my issues before this woe so worked on not dong snacks which I now find a non-issue most of the time. If you are hungry between meals maybe you shld up yr fat intake…
  • Sounds like her calories are kinda low. Also adults need 3500-4700 mg of potassium per day which is hard to get on this woe. I was exhausted and found any exercise difficult until I started taking a 1/4 tsp of No Salt (Potassium) every morning w a tsp of Natural Calm (magnesium). If I take more I get diarrhea
  • Excellent. You are lucky to have such a doctor
  • When I first started I ate way too much fat and really didn’t lose much weight. Once I cut fat back to about 65-70% it helped. After 4 mnths I have lost about 35 lbs so not losing a ton every week but slowly coming off and after a few weeks it is definitely adding up. I weigh myself everyday but some days the number goes…
  • I think fasting mite be difficult if you have all those fresh carbs in yr system. I wld go back to 20 carbs with IMF from dinner to supper for a week or two then maybe alternating days w 24 hr fasts .... good luck
  • I have my cals set for 1600 but not too concerned if I am over or under unless it is extreme either way. FYI Gatorade is not the best choice for elytes. Homemade version better. There are lots of recipes but mine is pretty basic .... No Salt for Potassium, Natural Calm for calcium, lemon juice, water and Himalayan salt. I…
  • Venti Americano hot or iced depending on my mood and the weather. Occasionally add cream.
  • For our endurance rides I take homemade jalapeño poppers and homemade beef jerky along w babybel or string cheese. They all last for a few days w/o refrigeration but I usually eat the cheese first.
  • Commit to two weeks and be prepared for the transistion from carb burning to fat burning as the Keto flu can be difficult plus yr body may be screaming at you to replace the carbs it is losing. Once you break thru the wall it becomes much easier as the hunger really diminishes and the cravings go away. Without cravings it…
  • Can’t help w yr problem but from the Beano website: “Unlike other gas and bloating medicines, Beano contains a natural digestive enzyme that can help prevent gas from beans before it starts.”
  • I have always thought the calories were for cooked bacon cause it wld never dawn on me to eat it raw. However the back of my Maple Leaf bacon says it is about 100 calories, 6g protein & 9.5g fat per slice RAW. Their website says it is 45 calories 3, 3g protein and 4g fat per slice COOKED. Who knew. Thanks for the question.
  • Dietdoctor.com. One of our faves is: Keto hamburger patties with creamy tomato sauce and fried cabbage Hamburger patties: 1½ lbs ground beef 1 egg 3 oz. feta cheese 1 teaspoon salt ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper 1¾ oz. fresh parsley, finely chopped 1 tablespoon olive oil 1⁄6 oz. butter Gravy: 1¼ cups heavy whipping cream…
  • @crimsongrey - love this. “Life is a game of inches .... and there are inches all around us.” Words to live by. Words to grow by. At any age. Thanks for sharing!!!
  • I had hair loss issues once when I wasn't getting enuf fat. Not sure how many fat grams u r eating but shldnt be an issue on a HF diet. Hormone imbalance will also cause hair loss.
  • I have los 32 lbs since July 3rd or 2.3 lbs per week. Not fast but steady. The main thing for me is I AM losing weight, am NOT hungry while losing and can do all my usual activities without fatigue. Also, unlike other diets, I am not constantly thinking about food. I do IMF - either 16hr (eat lunch and dinner) or 24 hr…
  • “My cravings are better but my energy is low low. I may need some added supplements. I take a hand full of pharmaceuticals 3 times a day (some more). I'm sure that doesn't help things. I am going to keep pushing on though. Thank you for asking!” Same idea as others but different elyte. Low Potassium was my issue and caused…
  • I suggested that but he was there when I fell and is pretty stressed about it. Especially since it took weeks for me to get back to normal and he was there thru it all. I am riding Fri w a friend and hubby and I are doing a ride on the weekend - 20 miles. If my friend or trainer ride w me a couple of times next week then I…
  • @1Nana2many - another interesting read is “Why we get Fat” by Gary Taubes. Before I offend anyone w my fad diet this book has a lot of info on how the body processes food incl a lot of interesting experiments from notable sources such as Harvard University. This is the first time I have ever done so much reading and…
  • @canadjineh - dry cottage cheese? Never heard if it. I live in Ont. Do u know where wld it be sold? Thanks
  • @Here4Ponies - “She said he is moving better because I am stronger and better balanced.” That is an amazing accomplishment! Congrats on that. For me I need encouragement to simply get out and ride. I go to work out w a trainer once a week w a friend. Twice a week I do yoga with friends as well. I have been pretty…
  • Amazing you are getting this horse to trust you enough to do things “outside his box”.
  • I too am a convert. Down 30 lbs in 3 mnths. The only downside is people are noticing and ask how. When I tell them I get a lecture on fad diets and how unhealthy this woe is. Initially I tried to share some of what I have learned but that just increased the negative comments. I just tell people now that I am watching my…
  • I agree. One thing/diet does not fit all but I personally don't just follow propaganda. I have done a lot of research. And more and more of this research shows our high carb western diet affects a lot of people negatively hence our obesity and poor health epidemic. I don't think we all have to agree across the board. I do…
