  • Everyone is different. I had serious elyte issues pre LCHF and felt really horrible until I got blood work done and discovered how low my potassium was. I now take a 1/4 tsp of No Salt every morning (yuch) and if Im doing a ride I do more at midday and at ride end. I know if I take too much as I get nauseous and diarrhea…
  • I know what has knocked me out - not being clear enuf in restaurants re flour or sugar in a menu item OR the server/chef not taking me seriously. Now I say I will have a severe reaction if I eat flour or sugar and no it has nothing do do w gluten. I find they take you a lot more serious if it is a health issue and not a…
  • Had a bad "unsheduled dismount" and had a bad landing on my back. Sigh. Have been off for a couple of weeks as bruised my ribs pretty bad. Trying yen yoga tomorrow and back to my trainer next week. Hopefully riding again next week as well. Fingers crossed. Friends came over twice this week to give the horses some exercise.…
  • I find my desire to snack has disappeared. But if I get hungry before dinner or if we r heading out to friends or a show, etc. I bring some Babybel Gouda and even some dill pickles - nice to munch on esp at the movies. At home I grab a tbsp of real peanut butter. Keeps me going til dinner. Celery w pb or cheese is good…
  • I wrote previously about my 84 year old mom who is extremely active and healthy. I was thinking about what keeps her motivated and decided it was a combination of 2 things. First, she does not want to be frail or dependent so she works towards being the best she can be. Second, she absolutely loves all things golf. From…
  • Just wondering how long you have been LC and still having sugar/carb cravings. I too had a sweet tooth but been LC since July 3 and cravings were gone after a week. I have read that using any sweeteners esp artificial ones actually makes the body respond as if sugar was actually ingested. I am not sure if stevia is incl in…
  • I am neither. Until July 3rd was on a "typical" way of eating including whole wheat breads plus occasional flour based treats and had no issues except my weight. Pretty sure the flour had enuf carbs to kick me out of ketosis and I got a wicked case of the"keto flu" as my body went back into fat burning. It was weird though…
  • My hubby and I do long distance/endurance (horseback) riding. We always carb loaded in the past starting the day before and during the ride. I have done 3 25-mile rides since starting LCHF and my energy levels are tremendously improved esp at the end of the event. I was worried at the first ride but it was a huge success.…
  • My mom is an inspiration. Her golf game was off this year which she found depressing but she decided finally that her game was off because she hurt her left side chopping ice over the winter and that the 10lbs she lost must be mostly muscle. She wasn't sure if aquafit or regular weight lifting (which she has done for…
  • @BodyByButter - Thanks for the "oatmeal" recipe. Out if Flax rite now but definitely going to try this. I was kinda sad there wld be no oatmeal for me this winter. Perfect.
  • When I don't know what great keto meal to make for dinner that wld appeal to me and my non-keto hubby I either go to dietdoc.com and scroll thru their recipes or I simply google the ingredients I have on hand (eg keto chicken brocolli). My main issue re the infamous food rut is with breakfast. At 20g of carbs or less it is…
  • @tolamarie - congrats on your weight loss, state of mind and inspiring all of us. I have lost about 22 lbs since July 3rd (LCHF) and agree that at 59 this feels like I have found the rite road for me. I don't think I ever thought about what happens after the weight loss before except to say I was never gaining it back! But…
  • That is so true and made me laugh. Thanks. And my back is much improved. Going to miss the net rid as well but will hopefully make the last two of the season. At the ride thus past Sunday my hubbies horse was lame so he rode my boy Thor. Came in 2nd with a Grade 1. So proud.

  • This is a little long but wanted to share: I have been overweight since high school w my top weight at the time being 220. My first diet at 17, I lost 60 lbs w the original Weight Watchers. It was very strict and very limited and very low in carbs. I kept that weight off until 33 when I had the first of our 3 boys. My went…
  • Congratulations on your positive steps.
  • I agree. Five lbs is great. My first week I lost 7 then the 2nd week 1 (which was disappointing). Each week I seem to fluctuate. However since July 3rd have lost about 22 lbs which is encouraging. Trying to keep my eye on the big picture and putting one foot in front if the other. Wins are great - negatives I try to ignore.
  • Great goals/commitments and good idea to write them down especially in a public place. My trainer is on holidays this week but have been going to her classes twice a week and yoga once a week for the summer. Plan starting mid fall is to go to my trainers once and yoga twice. My yoga instructor does more than just yoga so…
  • Very excited for you. New farm and new kickoff on your journey. Try to not be so hard on yourself. Pain is a huge enemy when one is trying to lose weight and/or get healthy. Good luck!!
  • Thanks! Still waiting to hear from surgeon for the knee but had a wicked fall last weekend. We were riding downhill in deep sand and Thor managed to snag a big root with his hoof. No memory of the fall so no chance to react. Was riding then was lying on my back on the edge of the trail. Incredible pain in my back n ribs.…
  • @kwtlw - as @spikeyhair said you do not need to exercise to lose weight. Exercise is important for maintenance and ongoing health but weight loss is based on your diet. Having said that movement is often very good for our achy parts so finding something gentle like walking and/or yoga might help in the long run. If yr Doc…
  • @NiciS72 - I have only been LCHF since July 3rd so NOT an expert. However I have been fighting exhaustion for years and although I feel more energy on this regime I am still far from energetic. I went to a nutritionist about a month ago who did some tests and found I am severely dehydrated at the cellular level. This…
  • @mk2fit - For the last 4 years I always preloaded carbs before our endurance rides. I started LCHF July 3rd. Two weeks ago I did my first event w/o carbs, a 20 mile ride and this past weekend a 25 mile ride both with less than 20g of carbs per day AND I didn't eat until the half way point (cheese, homemade beef jerky). I…
  • @AnnPT77 - I am not an expert by any stretch as still new to LCHF but for me I believe I am very carb sensitive although have no health issues at all - eg not diabetic, no high blood pressure, etc but way overweight. So, I track religiously and keep my carbs at 20g or less which comes mainly from veg - no fruit at all…
  • I want to be you when I grow up
  • I did the Keto Challenge at dietdoc.com. They do up a two week plan including yr grocery list for each week. Loved it although I tweaked some of the recipes as they were a little too high fat. If you are a member they have a number of meal plans available but you can get a lot of ideas for meals, etc without being a member.
  • @Ivanhoutan I don't have a sweet tooth (although I do enjoy them) but I do have a serious carb issue - chips, pasta, bread, etc. I find on a high fat diet I have more energy and zero cravings. Doesn't work for everybody but it sure is working for me.
  • My huge lightbulb moment was determining that carbs are not my friends. I have so much more energy, no cravings, sleeping better, only hungry two or three times a day and I just feel better. It probably isn't for everybody but I am loving Low Carb High Fat. Been doing it now since July 3rd and have lost 2 inches on my…
  • Debtay123 - congrats on your strategy. That seems like an obtainable and motivating way to stay focussed. Good luck on yr journey.
