  • I found a great overall plan on BodyBuilding.com. It has 4 workouts: chest, triceps, and calves day 1 and then back, biceps, abs day two then a rest day followed by shoulders, traps, calves day 3 and legs and abs day 4. Then I get a new rest day, but I use my "rest" days for cardio as this workout beats me up pretty good.…
  • flutter kicks, high knees, mountain climbers are all great for the lower abs.
  • I agree don't set it like a fixed goal. Surprise yourself and do more each time. Today I lifted the following: hip thrust 205 lbs x 10 and 185 lbs x 20 deadlift 185 lbs x 10 reps lat pulldowns 40 x 36 reps dumbbell bent over row 48 reps x 20 lbs straight arm pulldow 36 reps x 50 lbs barbell curl 48 reps x 15 lbs In June…
  • I would try re-balancing some of the foods you eat, and when you eat them. I would add peanut butter to your banana snack to make it more of a small filling meal instead of just a snack for breakfast. The addition of the protein will help you to feel fuller longer. Also, try foods that give you more fiber as it will keep…
  • Not to mention most of those mentioned have caffeine, which is a diuretic. I'm not against caffeine, but it can lead to dehydration. Additionally, I would not count diet soda like water either for the same reason.
  • Cardio- will help strengthen your heart and lungs while doing some to help you lose weight. Strength training will build muscle and strength, which will help you to obtain a better athletic shape. Additionally, science has shown that weight bearing exercise helps to maintain bone density and strength. Women especially need…
  • Today was leg day! I survived the following: exercise reps weight deadlift 4x5 185 lbs front squat/ 4x5 85 lbs overhead press hips thrust 3x10 185 lbs leg extention 3x5 100 lbs eliptical -6/6 setting-- just under 300 calories Roman Chair 4x12 with 10 lbs ankle weights on each leg.....
  • My sister used to teach a class and they used old milk jugs for both weights and resistance. If they needed weight they put in water, or kept them empty for resistance as they are plastic and buoyant.
  • Well it is boring like white rice with better nutritional stats to be honest. I find that it works well with a protein like chicken or fish as a side dish. I buy Near East brand and they add a little flavor like red pepper and basil so it isn't as boring.

  • I try to push through, but if that doesn't work I use ice to calm down the pain. I don't run, but I do strength training. Every once in a while its like I forget that I'm getting old while lifting at the gym and my body rudely reminds me the next day.

  • I find that if you can find a good mix of protein, carbs and fiber it keeps you full longer. Fruit with peanut butter, seeds/nuts/edamame (soy) and carrots/celery all work well.
  • Truthfully, a calorie is a calorie. Weight loss is achievable if all you want to eat is Twinkies if you watch how many you eat. However, I think it is worth mentioning that those kinds of foods burn fast and often lead to sugar crashes. More nutritional food seems to digest slower (esp. fiber and protein) which keeps you…
  • I wanna rock a nice two piece Victoria's Secret bathing suit and look good in it! Additionally, I kind of get a kick out of shaming the guys into lifting more weight at the gym. I can't help but smile when they stop to watch me really lift heavy and look jealous. Haha! LOL!
  • I too wonder what exactly is the correct gym etiquette for these situations. I personally don't mind helpful advice at the gym, and have been given some excellent workout tips from some of the guys there. I think that if it is offered respectfully as constructive criticism it should be fine. In turn, what is your advice…
  • It might be weird, but I take my multivitamin before bed with a full glass of water. With dinner time between 5-6 and betime at 11 ish I feel like I get the best benefits by doing this. However, I started doing this as I take synthroid (thyroid meds) in the morning and you can't take them together. My doctor also told me…
  • After looking over your dairy I think that I saw a couple of things that might help. I noticed that your protein intake is fairly low. I know that some people don't prefer standard proteins from meats, which is fine but other foods like fish, eggs, edamame (soy), nuts, seeds or even peanut butter can help keep your protein…
  • I use Isopure which is about 220 calories but gives me 50 grams of protein in a two scoop shake. I use the dutch chocolate and it is low carb, but actually tastes good. I definitely benefited from the additional protein.
  • The most common diet of restricting carbs is know as the Atkins diet. It has a pretty strong record as many really obese people have been put on it by doctors to reduce their weight often for surgery. One major draw back is that it is really restrictive on carbs, but the users do in fact lose weight. It might be worth…
  • It is important to set realistic goals toward weight loss. If you are seeking 2 or more pounds a week that is really going to be difficult. If you set it to like 1 pound a week you will find that you are much less likely to fail. Additionally, food is not the enemy. You need to achieve a good balance of carbs, protein, and…

  • I agree that the doctor should have given you at least a sheet with an explanation about what foods you should be eating. In short, women with gestational diabetes have high blood sugar. It is important to mention that this condition often causes babies to be born early and to weigh a lot. I agree with the other poster…
  • I have learned some helpful tips along the way. Here is my advice below: 1) bring a small notebook and pen to write down the exercises the trainer has you do together. Some will offer a sheet with the exercises printed but some don't and you will want to remember them for your own personal time in the gym. 2) Get a water…
  • I think the current guideline is to shoot for 5 veggies and 2 two fruits a day. Your are correct that many fruits have more sugar than people think. Two cups of bananas has about 36 grams of sugars. The American Heart Association would like for women to keep their sugar intake to maybe 30 grams a day. (men get about 45 g…
  • over cooked spinach makes me want to puke. It is so mushy and it actually tastes like dirt. I know that cooking it makes it better (because the nutrients are more digestible) but it really is a fine line between slightly cooked and like eating wet grass.
  • When ever I get into a mood about going to the gym I play my favorite workout music and it helps to get me motivated. I know at my gym most of the people workout by themselves. Very few are in pairs for workouts. Just remember that everyone there is simply trying to better themselves and it doesn't seem so intimidating.…
  • Volbeat A warrior's call is an awesome upbeat great tempo song. If you listen and it doesn't pump you up there might be something wrong with you. Also, it fits in nicely with I miss the misery - Halestorm and Click Click Boom from Saliva. I love it when I can find music that will really pump me up during a workout.
  • Celiac and hasimoto thyroiditis have been associated as two auto immune disorders that can happen at the same time. The thyroid is an important hormone producing gland that can cause significant weight gain if it isn't functioning properly. Has your doctor checked your thyroid levels? It is a simple blood test to determine…
  • These are both great additions to my playlist. Thank you!
  • I too have been trying to get more fiber into my day. I take pill supplements and try to figure out new and exciting ways to incorporate veggies into my routine. I keep it simple and cut them up and keep them in the fridge based on what is cheap at my grocery store each week. I find that the 15 minutes of prep time pays…
  • I use Isopure low carb Dutch chocolate and I love it. It mixes well and packs 50 grams of protein in one shake using 2 scoops.
