  • +1 to everything @AnnPT77 said, and a note on resistance: a resistance between 3 and 4 most closely simulates what you'll feel on the water, so it's the resistance most people discussing rowing workouts (pyramids, wolverines, etc) will be using, if you decide to go looking for workouts to do on an erg other than just a…
  • Rowing is excellent exercise, and does work all of your major muscle groups, but it's actually a very complicated motion (at first) and it's very easy to injure yourself if you do it incorrectly. I've seen way too many people at the gym just asking for back problems on the ergs (ergometers, indoor rowing machines). Before…
  • Oops....
  • A little less than fourth months to go until my first half marathon, so I'm shooting for about 40 miles. I've seriously injured myself before by adding too much milage too fast, so I'm building very slowly this time around.
  • Thanks everyone! I really like the idea of pre-logging for the week on Sundays and using that to build a grocery list. I think I'll be stealing that idea. It's also just nice to know that I'm not the only mildly obsessive person out there.
  • I'm pretty obsessive about my shoes because I've got really high arches and my ankles need specific support after years of sports injuries, so this might be a bit over-the-top for some people, but filling in the data really doesn't take that long. I do this search every time I get a new pair of shoes and then read as many…

  • While cereal might not be the best breakfast, for the reasons mentioned above, Special K also makes a Special K Protein cereal, which is kinder to your macros. I find it keeps me fuller longer, and the iron content is really helpful.
  • ^^ This. Don't buy organic because you think it will taste worlds better. Buy organic (or locally/sustainably grown) because it's better for the world.
  • Love yoga. Big fan of the fact that I can touch my toes now.

  • I joined my local yoga studio around the same time as I joined MFP (early summer) and that's been my main source of exercise this whole time. I go to about 4-5 classes a week, mostly vinyasa. I've been eating at a deficit, so I can't really attribute a ton of the weight loss to yoga, but I've lost 25 pounds since New…
  • Whole Foods is where I typically get mine, though the not-as-fancy grocery store I also shop at (Giant) has them in stock from time to time. Same price, though, so as HeySwoleSister mentioned, if you find them on sale you should definitely stock up.
  • Very much a beginner runner, but trying to build up the miles. I can only run about twice a week because I need rest days after my primary exercise, but I'd like to do 20 miles in May.
  • If you're willing to branch out a bit from Greek yogurt, Icelandic yogurt has a really great protein:anything else ratio. My favorite is siggi's (which is also the easiest to find). It's not cheap (usually around $1.50 per yogurt), but the plain version has 15g of protein for only 80 calories, with no fat and only 5g of…
  • The general consensus of the few studies done on hot yoga practitioners with the most accurate lab equipment (not just heart rate monitors) is that hot yoga only burns about 15% more calories than a typical, non-hot, yoga class. Unfortunately however, there are very few standardized, trustworthy studies. If you're working…
