  • That kind of pain sounds like gas. They inflate your abdomen like a balloon so they can see what they're doing and easily maneuver. The only way to get that gas out is to walk. It helps your body absorb it to get rid of it.
  • I have only been to one through my surgeon's office as they are quarterly and I was out of town for the last two. At 3 weeks out at the time, I was the newest person there. Everyone else was much further post op. I was struck by how only one of the people was no longer overweight, yet some were up to 2 years out (the one…
  • I didn't have one either. Just had to lose 10 pounds in 2 months however I wanted
  • Hope you're doing well!
  • As I understand the wait is very long to get surgery on the NHS so if people can afford it, many pay to go private.
  • Many surgeons have stopped doing lap bands. There have been a lot of people who have had to have them revised to a sleeve or RnY due to erosion of the stomach wall, ulcers, etc.
  • It seems like an insurance scam to me. They actually send you a very expensive scar cream you don't need that gets charged to your insurance and the protein is thrown in as an incentive. But if the other site is the one I'm thinking of, they are a big advertiser so will shut down any discussion of it being a scam.
  • I had a hiatal hernia repaired during my VSG and still ended up with reflux when I didn't have it before. It's a risk. Some people develop it, some don't.
  • If you have any signs of acid reflux, I would stay far away from a VSG. If you have it in any form, it's likely to get worse. I would have the very rare day of heartburn before surgery. After VSG and after I went off the PPI my surgeon prescribed for all patients for 3 months, I had acid reflux like I have never felt…
  • So glad you're on the mend! That must have been very scary for you and your parents!
  • I have Blue Shield of CA. No supervised pre-op diet. I saw the surgeon for the first time on Dec 13 and had surgery Feb 22. During those 2 months, I did the psych eval, upper gi, insurance approval, and was asked to lose 10 pounds. It all went very fast.
  • Sent you a request. Maybe tell us a little about yourself?
  • My only bouts of vertigo were a few days before my surgery (crystals). But I hope you get to the bottom of it - it's awful!
  • From what I understand, once you're that low, an infusion is the only thing that'll get you back up. I have also heard of someone who was in your situation who after infusions, started using the iron patch from Patch MD and has been able to keep it up. I've heard very mixed results about their vitamin patches, but I've at…
  • I have alternative things around that I can eat and that I like - Parmesan crisps like Whisps (9g of protein, 0 carbs, 100 calories), Real Good Pizza (chicken Parmesan crust, 25g of protein, 4 carbs, 270 calories), turkey jerky, etc. so I don't feel left out.
  • Welcome!

  • My surgeon said to take Miralax everyday indefinitely up to 1 dose. I take a half dose daily in my coffee and it works.
  • Hi! I had VSG on 2/22/17. I'm down about 78 pounds, so going well, I think. The only thing I struggle with right now is social eating. Over the summer, I go to a lot of cocktail and dinner parties and have a lot of guests come stay with us. While I don't drink, I have a hard time not picking at appetizers or eating more…
  • I started vitamins at 3 weeks. Up until then, I was on 3 protein shakes a day and those were fortified with vitamins, so I was told to start them when I started to introduce food again.
  • I'm right there with you! 7.4 pounds to something starting with a 1!
  • I am much more comfortable this summer than last. Before I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, I was a hot sweaty mess. Maybe have your thyroid checked?

  • My surgeon told me that without surgery, an obese person has a 2-4% chance of losing the weight on their own and keeping it off for just 5 years. Our bodies are extremely capable of getting us to regain. It lowers your metabolism and raises your hunger to get you back to the higher weight it wants you to be (setpoint…
  • I had the sleeve, but just wanted to wish you well! Keep sipping like it's your only job!
  • You can always back up a step. I was on just protein shakes and liquids for 3 weeks post surgery. It all feels very weird and like you're never going to be normal again, but it does get better. It could just be that you aren't ready for what you're "allowed" to do. Just because you're allowed, doesn't mean you have to!
  • You'll do great. This is an anxious time, but you're almost there. Your preop diet will have been enough and you won't use half of what you take to the hospital, so don't worry about finding any more stuff to bring. Good luck!
  • I don't regret it. Sometimes I miss being able to eat whatever, whenever, but my tendency to eat like that is why I needed surgery in the first place!
  • What percentage of your intake is carbs? The higher mine are, the slower the weight comes off.

  • I was sleeved a month after you (2/22) and have lost 42 since then (and 17 pre-op). I have about 54 to go until my goal. I try to keep the attitiude of "my weight loss will be what it will be". That means not comparing to others, setting goals based on losing x pounds by x date, or generally having expectations of how fast…
  • That must be so frustrating! I went for a consult with my surgeon on December 13 and had surgery on February 22.
  • @TheresaOrtiz3 Some people seem to do fine with the patches, others develop serious deficiencies with them. Just stay on top of your bloodwork!
