  • "Tractors" are great for moving a hill of dirt, "shovels" are best for precision. OP obviously understands this concept, as indicated in original post. So- why ask why? Nothing new to be learned.
  • I steam them whole in pressure cooker with least amount of water needed. Skins slide off easily when done. Then dice & make a salad with farro, scallions, pumpkin seeds, mint, citrus vinaigrette & goat cheese. Don't forget to cook the beet greens too! So tasty braised with onion, garlic, and crushed red pepper.

  • I wasn't eating back any exercise calories, but got so tired and hungry. Now I let myself eat more when I'm hungry and low on energy, and less on days I'm not. Has certainly slowed weight loss- but now able to do more, feel stronger, and better outlook on staying with this program.
  • Got in my 3 commutes on the bike this week :)
  • Joining in! Way out of shape, so nothing exciting. Just getting back into a work commute again. My goal is to ride at least 3 times per week to work- starting tomorrow morning.
  • The natural macro ratio of even the best protein sources in most plants still deliver too many carbs for your daily overall goal of 1grams protein to 0.75 grams carbs (40%protein 30% carb) Examples: Wheat germ 1g protein to 2.5gm carb Quinoa 1 to 4.5 Lentils 1 to 2.2 White beans 1 to 2.5 Broccoli 1 to 2.3 Soybeans 1 to…
  • Chocolate can be a very emotional subject & it's easy to get into a love-hate relationship with it. I keep a tin of cocoa powder in the pantry. When need a bit of chocolate therapy, just mix it into Greek yogurt or make a low cal smoothie with ice & almond milk. Still get the flavor but fewer calories from fat & sugar, so…
  • There's nothing wrong with not bringing home a food if you don't feel in control around it. We used to plow through sugary breakfast cereal like mad- no bowl was too big for cereal! Stopped buying it, stopped eating it. Been years and I don't miss it at all. So maybe you take a break from crackers and realize they aren't…
  • Everyone seems to respond to gallbladder removal differently, but I would suggest getting more fiber more often. Especially as you have no gallbladder & since you eat so infrequently, that bile is just draining into your GI tract with no food to use it up. It can cause digestive issues. If no time to eat, carry around a…
  • Actually, right after I posted a plea for help- it worked! Not sure why. Didn't do anything different. Maybe just takes time to sync up?
  • So I've downloaded the app, logged in to it with a password and... Can't connect it to the spreadsheet. Link provided to the spreadsheet keeps saying I need to download the app- it doesn't recognize I do indeed have the app. I actually have the app open, but the spreadsheet isn't in my app. How do I link the two? Thanks…
  • Needalife, I truly appreciate that you've started this group. Been on a roller coaster of weight/health changes the past 5 years. Highest was 180lb (5 years ago) lowest 120lb (3 years ago). CW: 142.8 GW: 126 or whenever my clothes fit again :D Ready to make the most of this summer!
  • There's a cross state bikeway in Ohio, approx 325 miles long, although not complete. http://www.ohiotoerietrail.org/ Here's one persons story of a 4 day journey on the bikeway: http://ohiobikeways.net/ohioerieride.htm
  • I log 4 meals plus a snack. My day starts around 4:30am, too busy to stop & eat while at work. Usually have home cooked meals in the evening. That particular day: Breakfast & lunch: protein shakes Snack: roasted seaweed & apple Dinner: beet & farro salad with side of braised beet greens & mustard greens, a peach for…
  • I have had success with exercise that strengthens the foot, ankle, calves- without putting pressure on heels- especially if has dorsiflexion component. Includes cycling both stationary and road, high incline elliptical, stair treadmill, rowing machine & swimming. Then ice thoroughly & take ibuprofen so I can still walk the…
  • Vegetarian on 1200 cal net. This is fairly spot on for my macro goals, although tend towards 70-90gm protein most days then over on fats or carbs. My diary is open if you want to see what I eat.
  • Looks like a fun way to stay on track this summer! Will the group be open or need an invite? What is it called?
  • Public. I want transparency in my relationship with food & exercise. Besides, we really can't hide what we eat- our bodies always tell the truth.
  • Just don't. I was pushing myself to eat egg whites for the low cal protein even though didn't like them. Now they positively make me nauseous. Was not worth it :s
  • Semantics y'all. Seems the phrase "set point" is being used to say "this is the weight my body returns to when I fall back into old habits". Why yes, your habits do dictate your weight (barring disease). Personally, I like to call it "ain't never goin back there".
  • Add me. Love kayaking! Haven't been out yet this year, but the weather just got nice. Time put in
  • In my opinion, it is more likely our habits keep us at a certain weight. The more we commit to different healthy habits, the more our physique will reflect that. That's why swimmers have a different build than mountain bikers or weigh lifters or couch potatoes. It's true we are fighting against homeostasis, so ever…
  • Our food spending pretty much doubles when we aren't cooking at home and packing lunches for work. Also, when we stopped buying alcohol & meat/fish our grocery bill dropped another $200 a month. The initial outlay for a garden can be spendy, but saving seeds for next year & making your own compost saves $$. I try to choose…
  • I love curry blends- very flavorful and many different styles to choose from.
  • Easy to scan & prelog foods. Just have to adjust servings depending on how hungry. We try to minimize trash, so mainly wash & reuse containers or that can be thrown in the fire like corn husks & wax paper. Yogurt, fruit & oat parfaits in mason jars- make ahead- for easy breakfast the first morning. Then the empty jars are…
  • Ice it. Even if it doesn't feel like it's helping at the time, usually does speed recovery.
  • Organic natural peanut butter- just roasted peanuts. No added salt, sugar, oil, etc... It's so peanutty good! Must log it accurately as it is calorie dense. I don't mind organic peanut powder in shakes or sauces- still get the flavor with fewer calories.
  • Thanks for the help. I'll have to check that.
