  • Every Sat or Sun morning is my official weigh in. I admit to being so curious during the week I just can't help but jump on there a few times during the week. It usually just ticks me off when I do that though.

  • I have been hypo for 15 yrs or so. Biggest thing for me was balancing my thyroid hormones. I put weight on while doing an hour of aerobics and then running 3 miles. I ate the same as my room mate. She lost, I gained weight. Once I was diagnosed and we knew why I was gaining and losing hair and all, I was prescribed…
  • I can soooo relate! 4 years ago I was training for a 1/2 marathon. The day We found out I was expecting baby #3, I ran 7.5 miles. Due to some complications, lots of stress, not exercising, and never really understanding the sheer amount of food I was really eating, I found myself over 40 lbs from where I should be. For the…
  • I haven't joined a gym. I hike, bike, run, as well as do circuit training videos in my living room. I am a big believer in doing weights of some sort. I have worked out solely cardio and not lost near as much as when I incorporate weights. Not only that but I have heard that weight bearing exercise helps osteoporosis.
  • I lived in Alabama and would mt bike in the evening or am. Those dang night spiders would always be out and if I was the first on the trail I would always end up with one on my helmet. And yes, mt biking I have to wear glass of some sort or I will get a gnat in my eye and I have sucked in those tiny ones and about choked.
  • Hey! I started this with one of MFP buddies and we are on level 2 day7. It really does help to have a buddy! I definitely feel stronger. I love the pendulum lounges, but hate....HATE the chair squats with v flys. They do make me feel good after I am done though. I use 8 lbs for some, 5 for most exercises, and 3 lbs for…

  • Sounds like these people are toxic. Any chance you can find new people to hang out with? Sounds drastic, but the people you mentioned don't sound like friends at all. Not sure what fitness you are into, but maybe a running group or biking group-people with similar goals and interest in your area. Or maybe a reading group?
  • So funny! Mine are 12, 8 and 3. That last one did me in! I am pretty motivated to lose. I am also an older mom at over 40. So count me in!
  • Outside is awesome....Mt bike, hike, run....anything outside. Also music is a great motivator. Take friends on your walk or run and chat.

  • I took more of the approach that I could eat whatever I wanted as long as I stayed with in my calorie goal. I quickly learned that I had trigger foods like chocolate, sweet tea, and cappuccinos. Those are things I had to eliminate all together because if I have one, I want another and another and pretty soon I ate the…
  • Is it possible that your fatigue is low iron? Are you taking your synthroid everyday at the same time? I am also hypo and have been for 18 yrs. I have been feeling exhausted lately, but I know it isn't my hypo. I know when my thyroid is off because I get pretty specific symptoms. I don't eat nearly the protein I should, so…
  • I agree that it souns like stress. Take time to slow down. Even just a few deep breaths can be calming.
  • I started 3 weeks ago with another MFP friend. We are on level 2 and I think some of the exercises are a bear!! I have several of JM DVDs and I usually add a few circuits from her No More Trouble Zones dvd or her Burn Fat, Boost metabolism dvd after finishing the 30 min of the 30 day shred dvd. Those two are great because…
  • Yeah! What a great accomplishment and a tangible example of all your work!
  • Log everything that goes into your mouth. I can't stress that enough. I was so shocked at my calorie consumption when I started. I had all kinds of excuses as to why I couldn't lose, but it turns out I was consuming waaaay to much. Also weight training is essential. Start slow and work up. It isn't a race, but a lifestyle…
  • My hubby started laughing and lightly making fun of me when I sat down to dinner with a scale. He thought I was going too far, but I mentioned that what I was doing was working and I just kept at it. He now agrees it is working
  • My dog is SO sarcastic. Okay so I talk FOR my dog...... ALSO, 1 Hershey's kiss and I am a goner i go back for 2nd, 3rds and on and on.
  • I cut out as much refined sugar as possible. So I stopped Starbucks runs, stopped cappuccino blast stops, quit ordering southern sweet tea, and .... "big sigh" cut out chocolate.......sniff, sniff. It has only been 2 weeks, but each day is a little easier to drive by those places or to walk by the chocolate.
  • Perfect! Thanks for sharing that. When I plugged my 25 min in for circuit training it calculated 253 calories, so just about right.
  • Thanks, I didn't even know about the forums since I really just started !
  • Thanks for the tips. I know both chia and flax are supposed to have great Heath benefits as well. I might try some in yogurt- might make it gritty, but it might be alright.
  • Thank you! I am so new to this I didn't know that was an option. I found it and added my time. Thanks!
  • Thanks so much everyone. I am very new to this, so I am grateful for all your ideas and input.
  • Thanks RodaRose. Do you know what a good ratio would be for MFP. I think I plugged in 40:40:20 or something like that.
  • I just started. I agree that whatever I do has to be for life not a quick fix. I knew I had to cut out refined sugar because that is a very real problem area for me. So I did that. I am truly wanting to become much healthier in my eating habits. I turned to low carb simply because one friend had so much success, and…
