I cycle a lot and wear a chest strap heart rate monitor and run Map my Ride (basically the same program, same company), and I think Map my Ride consistently overestimates how many calories I've burned, by a lot sometimes.

I often ski and find skiing more fun than snowboarding, so maybe give both a try and see how it works for you?

I've lost 50+ pounds, and it was made possible by not drinking alcohol.

I get a lot of enjoyment for the calories in a banana.

Dinner is easier once you accept that it doesn't have to be any sort of formal or sit-down meal. Sometimes I eat 200-300 calories of fruit and a Kind bar or nuts for dinner and call it a night.

No, but I think banking calories for the weekend is a reasonable thing to do. Instead, I tend to go on monster bike rides on Sat & Sun and eat some calories back the same day. I'm going on a big bike ride in a moment, actually, and I'll eat 300-400 calories extra tonight because of it! Otherwise, it's definitely day to day…

100% agree with this!

Soopatt, I think you're doing great so far! Change is incremental, and you're getting better every day. I assumed the cauliflower soup had more fiber, though I bet the fiber content is lower because the cauliflower is blended or otherwise pulverized, destroying some of the fiber in the process. I'm not positive about this,…

I would also recommend eating more nutrient dense, calorically sparse foods. For example, for lunch today I'm having this ridiculously huge kale salad that will likely give me all of the fiber I need for today and then some, all in 500 calories.

I think the foods on your diary are wrong. How does "Woolworths - Fresh Cauliflowet & Gruyere Soup, 305 g" have 0g fiber but "Woolworths - Smoked pork fillet with mozzarella and spring onion, 250 g" have 9g of fiber? Surely the "Cauliflowet" (sic) soup should have *some* fiber. I'd add more chia seeds; 5g/20 calories a pop…

While I dislike weight lifting, I'm certainly open to trying new classes or ideas. That's often how I begin to like things that I previously did not like. So keep the suggestions coming!

I've lost about 50 pounds doing cycling, spin classes, and yoga. I cycle ~150 miles a week, and it's loads of fun: I get to go outside, see new sights, fly by people with expensive bikes, push through yellow lights, etc. With lifting weights, I'm relegated to counting reps and waiting my turn at machines, and that's pretty…

I weigh myself every single morning, and I don't sweat the fluctuations because they are immaterial.

Unsweetened chocolate almond milk is pretty solid.

Lately I've stopped believing in the "you must drink N glasses of water a day" directive, where N is some large number. Unless you have some medical condition or live in a hot/dry climate, have you considered only drinking water whenever you're thirsty and seeing how that works? I drink a lot of no-sugar-added almond milks…

A buffer 500 calories in size is an enormous buffer.

I used to buy 100 calorie packs of various items, but now I, for example, open the jar of peanut butter, weigh out as much as I want (usually one portion), put the jar back in the fridge, and then consume. I would have to go back into the fridge to get more, which achieves the "process that makes me think twice" effect. So…

I weigh liquids too (why not?), including things like olive and coconut oil, almond milk, vegetable broth that's going into a soup, etc. You can place your glass or pot on a scale and pour into it without having to use (and clean!) measuring cups :-).

Salad? That's what I have nearly every single day for lunch. Basically, eat anything that fits within your calorie restrictions. That *could* be chips and candy bars (but probably shouldn't be because that would probably leave you hungry).

I literally just got back from probably my 15th yoga class. I ride a road bike, go to spin classes, and do yoga, and yoga has been a great compliment to my other activities. I sweat through yoga classes (it's hard work!), and while I doubt I burn as many calories doing it versus riding/spin, it definitely helps create…

I am a huge cycler and spinner and can attest to how great both are. Keep it up!

Mccindy72 is spot on with everything she's said.

By the way, I would go on 10-15 mile bike rides averaging 10-12 mph when I was hung over. They were tolerable and were a nice way to get out and steadily burn some calories.

Stopping drinking after years of drinking and partying was the single best thing I've ever done for my body and my diet. I tried drinking water before I went to bed, eating certain things after I woke up, and so on, and nothing ever worked except not drinking too much in the first place. I work out every day now that I…
