I'm assuming nothing about the OP being the offender. Reading her post I personally feel that how she responded to lady who pointed out that the bar was too high was quite possibly rude and offensive. She already had a full on pre-conceived opinion of the bloke before he even spoke to her. People drop weights when they are…

This is pretty much what I thought when I read the OP. I always find it amazing that some people seem to meet all the arseholes where ever they go and they never seem to realise that maybe the arsehole isn't the people they are meeting...

Someone should tell your husband to wait until everyone is sat down before he starts eating and to wait until everyone has finished their main before moving on to dessert. As to the OP, I have heard the whole, put down your knife and fork between bites, gives you a chance to enjoy the food and for the body to get a chance…

Completed the 50km New Forest running festival race on Saturday. Finish time of 6:07:23. Had a few issues with an my knee giving out on my after 20 miles. So the last 10 were a real slog! In the gym today and I'm starting a proper training plan tomorrow!

I was just about to post this. That is some nice race bling.

Have a 30 miler on Saturday. The New Forest Festival of Running. I am so looking forward to this. Not because I expect to finish in any sort of quick time, quite the opposite. Mostly because of lots of stress happening in my life and it will give me a chance to just switch off and run/walk/crawl.

Are you following a training plan and what do you mean by distance running? halfs? full marathons or ultras? Your 5k speeds will naturally just get faster as you run further. I went from a 30 min 5k, to a 22 min 5k with never considering my running speed. Just keep adding distance and keep it slow and constant. A long…

Slow down until you can breathe, then slow down a bit more. Keep slowing down until you can complete the relevant week in your c25k training. Repeat the weeks as needed. Improving time and distance doesn't come overnight. It takes time. Just get out there and do what you can, walk if you need to and next time trying to…

Congrats!

That looks like a really nice trail to run. You will never want to run on the roads ever again :)

Have you been adjusting your calorie intake as your weight has gone down? Eating at 1450 calories may not actually give you a deficit at your new weight. What does MFP give you when you put your details in to it currently and set it for 1/2lb a week?
-
@Z_I_L_L_A serious question, how much fat do you actually see on people shoulders? When I was overweight, with a big set of moobs and a beer gut. One thing I didn't think about when I looked at myself in the mirror was the amount of fat that I was carrying on my shoulders.
-
Yeah, you are both correct. Once again I end up putting off starting an actual plan because of "something" and just muddle along running as and when. Took a day of rest yesterday after the Sunday marathon and am going to get out today and start training. Spent yesterday evening going through various sites, mags etc and…

Thank you.

Quick question about the formula, as I haven't seen this before. What units do you use for weight and distance?
-
Finished my first marathon of the year. Time was 5:13. Wasn't my best time by a long shot, but that's what happens when you don't train properly.
-
Good luck @BeeerRunner. Enjoy it!

Got my first marathon of the year this weekend, Sunday 26th Feb, Heartbreaker Marathon in the New Forest in Hampshire. I am so under trained it is beyond a joke.
-
look down every now and then. When you are drifting back, speed up until you are at the front of the machine.
-
Lunch time during the week and before your wife and child are up at the weekends. It's the only way to work it around the family. Also, I know this isn't the place, but @velocitykate what a total load of bollocks you are sprouting. Load of stereotypical crap about men not giving a crap about their wives and children and…

If it is what you have been using to train with then you use it to race with. That way you have all the fueling you need, when you need it, and aren't reliant on the aid stations for anything. I personally always use my race vests for all long distance races.

This is incorrect. The 1400 calories is the net number of calories you need to consumer on a daily basis. That means that you should eat back a portion of your exercise calories otherwise you would be under the 1400 target for the day.

Quick question, is this only being counted outside of your "normal" walking etc. I walk about 3 miles a day, just getting to the station and office and back home again. Are people just looking at what they do outside of those miles?
-
For cardio, I generally go with 100 calories per mile. For strength work, 100 calories every 30 mins.
-
Just go and do your thing. If he comes up to you again. Politely say, "thank you for your advice, I'm not currently interested in a personal trainer". Do not doing any routine that can cause you harm or injury because of some prick. If he persists, then you have to speak to the management straight away. A note in the box…

This is the estimate that I generally use, 100 calories for a mile travelled. Doesn't matter if you're running or walking. One just hits that 100 calories burnt quicker than the other.
-
My longest runs have been a 60 miler and a 50 miler. Both over 15 hours. Breaking stuff down in to smaller bits will help for a bit but in the end, even those smaller bits feel like hell. You will be beyond tired, every single bit of you will hurt. Physical exhaustion will make every step feel like your legs are made from…

I have a few races this year, so I'm pretty much training non-stop. Have a marathon in 6 weeks and then a 50km 3 weeks after that. I then have back to back to back 30 miles, at the end of May, a 50 miler at the start of July and a 60 miler at the start of September. October is back to back 30 milers, ending the year with a…

nope, you make want to change the basic level in the settings to slightly active, or what ever the second option is, if you are walking 7.5 to 10k steps as your daily commute, but only log actual exercise outside of your daily routine.
