Got out for a run with a few people from the office today, we have started up a bit of a running club here for people of different abilities. I managed to put in a 23 min 5k. Happy with that because I totally failed at my long run on Sunday, ended up calling it a day at 10 miles after 2 hours because I was just not feeling…

I give up drinking whenever I am losing weight. For me I would just rather "spend" those calories on sweets :)

There are a couple of trainers at my gym who are totally ripped but when you hear them actually talk to their clients and watch issues with form go un-corrected you realise that what someone looks like has nothing to do with their abilities to be great trainers/teachers.

Low heart rate training is just another form of training and for some people it works and others just wont get on with it. But if someone is having panic attacks because of worrying about how high their heart rate is getting then it may well be a good idea for them to look in to. For me, I'm in to ultra distance running.…

Run longer and on those runs, run slower. Start by running slow and then slow down a bit more. Stamina comes from just being on your feet for longer.

Just posting in here to say that I didn't run yesterday. Was all set, gear all sorted for a quick start in the morning before the little one awoke. Changed the alarm clock to 5am, so could get a long run in, didn't turn alarm on...slept through until was awoken by my daughter jumping on me. Then had to do real life grown…

That's a lot of words without actually saying anything. What point are you actually making?

slow down and then when you are running slower, slow down some more. In fact you might want to look at doing LHR training, which is low heart rate training. You do need a proper HR monitor to wear while you exercise. So you can train your HR the whole time. The following site has some good information about it.…

This year I really stepped up my running and managed to complete 5 ultras and 2 marathons. Looking to better that next year and possibly complete my first 100 miler. But the main thing will be strength work. I've lost a lot of weight over the last few years and keep on putting off strength work for my running. So I'm going…

2.5 miles today, I'm working on doing low heart rate running. Keeping my heart rate below 134 and running slow is so much harder than smashing out a 5k in 20 odd minutes.

As others have said, you are over training. Running 5k either side of a rugby training sessions is just to much for your body to repair and recover from before you head out and do it again. You put a post in the long distance running group about the ultra you have signed up for and the marathon in March. You need to start…

Congrats! So quickly the runners high is replaced with the runners low of "what now". Next is a couple more 5ks, then you'll want to challenge yourself on a 10k. Soon a 5k will just be a warm up and 10ks will be the norm. Then you'll want to know what all the fuss about the half. Half's will come and go and you'll be on…

Loving this thread. just a quick read of what other people have been running makes me want to get out and knock out a few miles. This isn't helped by the fact that today was a weights day in the gym, so I haven't run today. Keep up the good work all.

What's makes a good marriage is no different from what makes a good friendship. There just has to be that extra "spark" for the jump from friendship to marriage.

First session I ever had with a personal trainer. Had been a really busy day, up at something like 4am, hadn't eaten anything all day. Did my training session, felt fine, went to stand up and straight up blacked out. Two other PT's carried me to the reception area where I could sit down. So pretty much everyone watched me…

6 miles today at lunch time, finally decided I should start training for my marathon in Feb. Have also signed up for a 75km run in March, back to back to back 30 milers in April and a 50 miler in July, ending with a 60 miler in September. I love it when registration opens for races, such a good way to go in to winter when…

I always thought the thing about PB was that you could get a tonne of calories with very little effort. It's always my go to "snack" if I'm coming to the end of the day and need to get a couple of hundred extra calories in.

Tiny, I've never run that race. It is always to close to another race for me to do. Next year it is the day after I run the Thames Path challenge. But it has been going for quite some time and has had good reviews. I'm doing the following next year in October. I have run it a couple of times now. Really good multiday.…

@tiny_clanger Yeah it was a organised run. Quite a few of them in the New Forest. There are a few runs actually coming up. http://www.racenewforest.co.uk/ I am currently signed up for the 26th Feb Marathon. I was going to run the one on 27th November but slipped a disc last week at the gym, so having to take it easy at the…

I'm very much a lone runner. It's the one time in my life I get to switch off. I love the community around ultra running. The before and after race chats are great but when I'm on the trail, I just want to run on my own. I did a 30 miler where another runner wanted to talk to me for the whole thing. That was more painful…

Ws2016 - I didn't have an MRI, doc went on symptoms and a physical check, with the proviso that if there wasn't any improvement in 7 days she would book me in for MRI/X-Ray. Pain killers and anti-inflammatory drugs worked okay and after 3 days pain was reduced and after 5 I stopped taking pain killers. But will very much…

Cheers Stealth. I know that laying off of exercise for any real length of time isn't an option. I don't think my mental health or my marriage would fair well if I don't get to the gym or out running. I get very grumpy when I can't exercise. :) I just got back from the gym session and trying to hip hinge in the above…

Following this post. My first ultra, 30 miler, was done a grand total of 6 months after I completed my first ever 5k run without stopping. Took me 7 hours to finish that and I wasn't able to complete the second 30 miler the next day. That was April 2014. This April I went back and ran the race again, completing both days…

Very much this. I had my first DNF this year, at mile 57 into a 70 miler.

5'7" SW - 184lbs CW - 145lbs TR - 145lbs - 150lbs Have decided that I'm going to start a recomp, so my aim will be to stay at at least my CW for the next year but if over the next 6 months, I have lost fat but kept the same weight I might try to up my weight a bit.

So once again I have found myself at the point of not knowing what to do. I was all set for doing a cut/bulk but I think over the last couple of months of trying to lose the last 5lbs or so I have come to realise that I just don’t enjoy the whole cut part of the process. I have always said that any diet changes I make have…

When races have that separation they normally mean the following: Runners - People who will run the entire course Joggers - People who will run most of the course but will also taking walking breaks Walkers - People who will walk the course Depending on the type of race it helps to ensure things such as the support and…

Sorry are you saying they do or they don't. What part of this debate are "you" discussing. By the numbers there you have shown that they don't burn the same. With running burning almost 50 calories a mile more.

I have a bone scan booked in from when I get back from holiday, but 16 days after the event and still with a stabbing pain in the front of my tibia when not even walking makes me feel that the initial diagonisis is probably correct. I hope so much that the bone scan comes back clear, but I'm not holding up much hope,…

I normally get 5 to 5 1/2 hours. I have been getting that amount now for so long that it feels like "enough", though at a weekend when I'm not running I never wake up until my daughter wakes. I would love to increase my sleep time but sadly work and life mean that bed before 11:30pm is normally pretty hard and I can't…
