  • Can't believe that its only 2 weeks before my 70 miler and as always before a long run, I feel like I haven't trained enough. It's the 4am start that I'm really not looking forward to.
  • Both, the best way to get the best level of health is to ensure that you are improving your body as a whole and not just focusing on one thing. 5x5sl - Monday/Wednesday/Friday Cardio - Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday Rest - Sunday This is my current routine, while training for a 70 mile run at the start of July.
  • Quite a few from our company are doing it. Our team is looking to top the charts for the company. Which means we need to be doing around 25 - 30k steps a day average per team member. Looking forward to it.

  • Good luck for the weekend. Remember to enjoy it!
  • I'll be running the Pony Express ultra next weekend, 60 miles over two days, 30 miles a day. This was the race that got me in to running long distances 2 years ago. I never managed the second day back then.
  • This. You are not going to die if you don't eat your normal diet for a few months. get researching, find some vegan meals you like the sound of and try them. If you eat everything then there shouldn't be any problem.
  • Firstly, slow down and walk past dogs which appear to be quite jumpy/barking. You can normally tell these from a distance when on your run. If even then the dog is circling you, jumping etc. Just stop. If the owner is around, then ask them to take their dog. If not you will probably have to wait until the do arrive. If a…
  • Totally agree with this. You need to find something which you enjoy and will be able to continue with daily, weekly and yearly. If you are signed up for something you don't want to do, you will find an excuse to not do it, who in their right mind would spend what little free time they have doing something they hate. So in…
  • Didn't realise they put add breaks in pornos.
  • This is very much the same for me. I don't bother counting salad, because if I'm gaining weight is sure as hell isn't the lettuce, cucumber or spring onions with my lunch causing the problem.
  • You won't gain any muscle while losing weight. It just doesn't work like that and with such an agressive weight loss you will lose muscle as well as fat. I believe that works out around 2.75lbs a week, the maximum recommended is 2lbs and even then that is probably only for people who are morbidly obese. If you try and do…
  • Both, set a distance and a target time to complete it. Then try to improve on that time next run. Apart from my weekend LSRs which I just head out for up to 3 hours or so and then check the distance covered when I get home.
  • Went out at the weekend to get some new clothes as mine are just looking stupid now. Got myself a pair of 30" waist jeans, which means, at 5'8" I can also get short. So have some jeans which actually fit me properly in something like 17 years!
  • Well done! It's an amazing feeling when you break through the point of a run feeling painful and all you want to do is go home and sleep and suddenly you are actually enjoying it. It only gets better!
  • I have been lucky for the last 20 years then. I only drink diet fizzy drinks because full fat ones are far to sweet and I have been having artificial sweeteners in my tea and coffee for probably 17 years and I have at least 5 or 6 cups of tea/coffee a day. Which means I have consumed around 37230 sweeteners just in my tea…
  • What other dietary information was the for the people who made up the study, what lifestyle information was taken in to account? I think the phrase to be used here is correlation does not imply causation. There are a large number of reasons why people aged 65 and over may have large amounts of adominal fat. Whenever you…
  • The point isn't correct though. SL 5x5 starts you with just the bar and slowly builds up to heavy lifting. There is zero, non-medical reason, why you can't start lift straight away. You will be starting with little to no weight but that is the idea. You learn form before adding weight. When people say start heavy lifting,…
  • How does he stop women from lifting heavy? As in he won't train them to lift heavy or actually bans you / kicks your out for using the heavy stuff?
  • This is a very good point. Your contract could probably easily be ripped up on the basis of sexual discrimination. Unless it clearly states on what you signed that "women are only allowed to use the little weights" he has no grounds to suddenly declare what you can or can't used based on his personal view. Look up SL5x5.…
  • I did a 50k run on Saturday, took it easy yesterday and am passing on the gym today. Will be back there tomorrow though. Just want to give my legs that little bit of extra rest before I start up again, full rest days after a serious change to your normal workout is often needed, mentally as well as physically.
  • Just enjoy it and also, not wanting to sound like I'm having a go at you, but don't in any way shape or form believe that running 5k in 30 minutes is not impresive. That is an amazing achievement!
  • Just over 5 years ago, I became a dad for the first time and I realised that I had to do whatever I could to make sure I was going to be around for my daughter for as long as possible. I then got in to running and discovered that I love running long distances and pushing my body to its limits, might also be that getting…
  • I know this sounds stupid but are you breathing through your mouth or nose while running. If you are breathing through your mouth could it be that you are gulping down air on your fast runs and just drying your throat out more. So as soon as you stop and try to return to normal you start coughing because it's so dry.
  • Any UK runners around here? I'm doing a 30 mile race in the New Forest on Saturday. Though I have woken up this morning with a stinking cold. Hoping I can shift this by the weekend. Starting to doubt the plan of booking this race 3 weeks after running my first marathon of the year. Ah well, should be good. Just going to…
  • runner here, going training for a 70 mile in July. Throw me a friends request if you want. Group that Tavistocktoad was talking about: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/94-long-distance-runners
  • Yeah I remember those days, being 22 and wanting to shed all that muscle. Those were the days.
  • I think it also needs to be taken with a view that you have already lost quite a bit of weight and are looking to fine tune your numbers maybe. My wrist measurement would have put me at a large frame before I lost weight and a small frame now that I have lost weight.
  • Last race I went on there was a short women, probably around 5'1" / 5'2" and she was flying along. I was doing around 6mph and she blew past me with ease.
  • Yes and no. I always log the fruit I have with breakfast and lunch. But the veg that I have on the side with dinner really depends on how close I am to my calorie limit. 100g of brocolli is about 30 odd calories. I don't eat close to 100g of brocolli with my dinner, so I'm not t0o bothered about logging that 15 calories.…
