  • Warm up using resistance bands, planks and squats followed by a 10 km run and a cool down. Then I rewarded myself with a flat white coffee from the park cafe.
  • Have you seen a physio for the sciatica? My husband had sciatica and the physio really helped. It’s hard getting back after having a baby. I used to put my twins into a crèche attached to my gym while I did a class but was often pulled out by the carers because of various baby needs. So don’t expect smooth sailing. The…
  • Thx. I’m a regular 5km runner - 3 or 4 times a week. It’s not COVID. My test result was negative and I’m in Sydney where there’s been no community transmission for more than a month. This is the first time I’ve been sick all year and it’s nearly Summer.
  • I used to do competitive race walking in the 80s at Little Athletics and, later, Senior Athletics. I competed at State level a number of times. You need to use the race walking technique to compete. You get three warnings from the judges then you’re out. And yes, the race walking technique is faster.
  • Parents have to provide a packed lunch in Australia. Usually I pack a piece of fruit, 2 small fruit pillow biscuits and a wholemeal sandwich and sometimes a plain yoghurt. They generally eat it all. Occasionally one of my kids will grumble about what other kids get. But I'm not budging.
  • I agree with previous post. See a physiotherapist. I did and, after an MRI, discovered I had a frozen shoulder. He gave me some exercises to do with a resistance band and told me to stop lifting weights altogether and no push ups or bench presses.
  • Physiotherapy worked for my bad knees. Always warm up before a run and incorporate the exercises your physiotherapist gives you. Mine recommended a resistance band. Don't skip the stretches after a run either.
  • Here's what works for us (most of the time): 1. Lock up TV remotes in a wheelie bag. Keep key with you at all times. If he has a school issued computer, lock it up as well. 2. Use OurPact app to set time limits on tablets/phones and block remotely. 3. Change pass codes on your own devices regularly. 4. Invest in balls and…
  • I gained 55 lbs with full term twin pregnancy despite dreadful morning sickness the whole way through. I could hardly keep good down. I gained 50 lbs with my second pregnancy. I went 2 weeks over because of excess amniotic fluid.
  • A friend of mine (a nutritionist) offered to buy me a coffee. She was shocked when I requested a full cream flat white. She told me that it's not as high in calcium as skim milk. It hasn't changed my mind though.
  • I love a man with a deep singing voice. I don't mind if they have two heads as long as they can croon.
  • Yep. Nothing like a good book
  • THIS but reverse for Australia (we drive on the left and overtake on the right). Also, people who stand on the right-hand side of escalators/travelators. This is particularly annoying when they've pushed in front of you at the bottom; only to stop.
  • Two books I've read recently and loved are Alone in Berlin and Jasper Jones (both of which are now movies) . The latter is an Australian novel so you may not have it where you are. The former is based on actual Court records from Nazi Germany but very fatalistic. The Chemist by Stephanie Meyer is quite a gripping read if…
  • It's the ones who do only 10 crunches on a bench and then stay while texting on their phone for 5 minutes or longer that annoy me. Sure, they'll do another 10 after they've finished on the phone but can't they allow someone else on in the meantime. I'm talking about an exercise yard with very few pieces of equipment but…
  • Female, 169 cm Highest: 65 kg Lowest: 51 kg Now: 55 kg Feel great!
  • People who do one rep then rest on the equipment while looking at their phones for 5 minutes then do a 2nd rep.
  • My significant other gives me a bit of a hard time about my food choices but it's really a difference of opinion. ATM he doesn't approve of the unsweetened almond milk I have on my cereal or the high protein milk I use in my coffee. He'll insist on nothing but full cream milk as it's "all natural". He also shamed me out of…
  • I can sympathise with your situation. I'm what you might call skinny fat. I've been teetering between being underweight BMI and low normal BMI. After 3 kids I now have a belly I can't shake. I also love to run! I was lifting weights until my physiotherapist advised me to stop because of a frozen shoulder. I'm doing…
  • No question; just observation. Though I do miss the flat tummy I had until my early 40's. Put on 25 kilos when I was preggers with twins (all out front) and never bounced back. Also pushed out the base of my rib cage. My rib cage now clicks out of place when I do sit ups. Just one of those things like having big feet and…
  • If you like a bit of zip then just add wasabi and soy sauce. Even the kids like it. Alternatively, make a sauce using lime juice, fresh cream and finely chopped chives.
  • I'm at the low end of normal for bmi but, after having twins, I was left with a baby belly that I can't get rid of. I had my twins at the age of 39 and another at 41 so perhaps my body isn't ever going to bounce back. I also love running. The muscles in every part of my body feel hard except for my tummy. I'm begrudgingly…
  • It's those little things that can make a "big" difference: 1. Drinking several cans of soda a day: each can contains about 9 tsps of sugar. Sugar is addictive and converts to fat. 2. Choosing white bread and pasta over the whole grain equivalent: Whole grains fill you up for longer. Children who start out in life eating…
  • The separation thing sounds familiar. I remember my obstetrician mentioning this after the birth of my twins - the muscles were separated by more than 4 fingers' wide - is that what you're referring to? I did go full term with twins so it wasn't really surprising. My GP didn't talk about this though as being an issue. To…
  • I'm maintaining at between 53 and 55 kilos but tummy is at 80 cm. Unfortunately, I can't do heavy weights again until my frozen shoulder gets better so have to stick to running, crunches, squats and the band exercises my physiotherapist has given me
  • Thanks for the responses. It's good to know I'm not alone. PegMoffat, I'll be 50 this year and I guess things just aren't as elastic as they used to be
  • Thanks for letting me know. Not much chance of swimming with this arm. No more than a dog paddle. As my kids say, it sucks.
  • I started running in July 2014. I run 3 to 5 days per week. Like you, I've been gradually building on the distance; initially it was only about 1 1/2 km. Now I regularly run 5 km. I'm also getting faster. At first, I didn't think I was losing any weight. I went for a general checkup in about February last year and the…
