Agree w/lorrpb! Also remember you will fall off the wagon (life gets in the sometimes); when you do, forget abt what you ate/or didn't do and get back on. I'm 66 and re-started MFP back in 15 to lose abt eight lbs--ended up losing 11. I still eat pizza, burger & fries, cake, etc., just not all the time. It's a lifestyle,…

@beaglady, I used to have an office job (i.e. glued to my desk); I am now retired, but what I would do (as often as I could--once an hour or so) was to get up from my desk and take a short walk. Just around the office or to the restroom, that way you're not sitting all day. I had folks in another building and would walk…

@Evamutt, Excellent; sounds like a good plan!! Good luck and let us know abt your progress.

Little story here; point is it is better to eat something (even if it's not very healthy. Here's the story: I was in the A.F. Reserves and had a very busy Saturday; missed lunch @ the dinning hall. We had a short break so I went to the base exchange and got a Polish sausage (on a bun). Got back to the office and ate it…

All the above are right! And the aging process you can't stop; getting old you can. Good luck and welcome to all the newbies!!

@19331953, welcome to our group!! I really don't follow a "meal plan." I eat pretty much anything; just watch the portion sizes. Put together something that works for you with the foods you like to eat; if you don't like something why try to eat if just because some "diet" says too, and remember that it is a lifestyle not…

@jwcanfield, Welcome; agree w/Nana!! BTW, have you tried lifting weights?? I'm the same age you are and I do it; I eat close to 1700 cals a day--have to eat that much to keep from losing any more weight. Start out w/light weights and build up to heavier ones. Helps build some of your muscle back (which allows you to eat…

@krenwren Welcome back!! B)

Agree w/Nana; especially forgiving yourself when you mess up--it happens and we all do it. We just pick ourselves up and get back on track. It's a journey and a lifestyle; not a project or "diet" with an end date. Keep us posted! B)

Been there myself; broke both bones in my right wrist (and I'm right-handed of course) in Dec 15. Had to sit w/it elevated for eight weeks (and I'm in my 60s).

Nana, I'll put your sister on my prayer list if you want. Agree that "I can't" is just an excuse. Heard a story of a woman who STARTED weight lifting at 72; so age is just an excuse. Woman ended up with cancer and passed away at 86; but she lifted weights as long as she could. I say "aging process you can't stop, but you…

Wikipedia doesn't list any, and from the write up doesn't look like it. I've never had kids and my belly is pretty wrinkly too (and I'm lots younger than her). Wonder if she uses something.

Age is only a #!! I don't eat like that, but have made small changes over time that I can live with. I still eat some overly processed food and the occasional burger, fries, pizza, cake, etc. It's all about moderation and getting back on the wagon after you have indulged. It's not a project or diet with an end date; it's a…

Totally agree!! B)

Same here; just wish I had started earlier! We were packing up some items for storage so hubby got some boxes and they through in a bundle of wrapping paper; my husband dropped into my arms for me to carry into the house. Found out later the bundle weighed a little over 25 lbs; if I hadn't been doing weights there is no…

@weightx/training, I heard abt Ernestine years ago; I think she looks fantastic. I think she's somewhere in late 70s or maybe abt 80. Not sure why didn't post the image.

@luluinca Many thanks; I try to do 3 full-body workouts (w/a short cardio session) a week. Sometimes I miss, but I believe weights are best for maintaining muscle mass as we age. Have a great week!! B)
-
luluinca, I'm with you!! I'm 66 (67 later this yr) and just keep on keeping on!! B)

Agree w/Wapan, and you increased your muscle mass while doing the shred. A lb of muscle takes up less space than a lb of fat so that may be the reason the weight loss didn't show up.
-
Bigsofty, You are more than welcome!! The more the merrier (and the more info we gain)!! B)

Hogerda, have you tried frozen veggies?? They can be cheaper than fresh (and they keep longer)--you only fix what you plan on eating for lunch/dinner. I usually steam cook mine in Pyrex in the microwave oven (takes less water & time). To all the newbies, do what you can do for exercise (or whatever your doc allows); adding…

Lauren, upping your carbs will help w/endurance @ the gym. You need them for energy; just make sure you select good ones (limit sugary/white ones). I use whole wheat bread and frozen veggies (they keep better) and fix a salad every night for dinner. I do splurge on the occasional pizza, burger & fries, etc., but consider…
