Woah. Thanks everyone for your input. I was merely enquiring to gather some ideas to play with because I don't have much of an imagination. No professional advice, diagnosis or recovery plan wanted from here, that is being sought from professionals. I also don't have much detail on the injury which began with a knot in my…

Thanks all. I'm still a bit of a gym newbie but I was so happy with progressing with gentle lifting so having to find something new isn't ideal. I'm still waiting on a physio appointment but obviously, as you said, being cautious and definitely not exercising with the shoulders.

I'd definitely recommend shopping at Aldi if there's one near you. Prices can't be beat but available products depends on the store. Fruit and veg are some of the cheapest I've seen - I find grocers and market stalls aren't so cheap.

I didn't mean to start a war! I understand there's many different opinions on this and of course it's down to individual differences too. I just wondered about personal experiences really. As you were everyone

Ahh thank you! I always wondered why sweeteners just contained other sugars. Excellent. My morning coffee is certainly going to streamline itself now!
-
I mean that's an ideal until I properly get into it... Wondered what general opinion was is all :)

Thanks guys. I'm avoiding the gym for now, it's just not my scene but I need something for running and to be able to move around in. I'm not keen on buying from ebay because it's normally unlabelled (and I think I'd trust the highstreet more) and also because of sizing.

Nice turnout! Hey guys, 21yo student, currently 146 trying to get to 130 but mainly trying to be healthier and drop some fat (not too concerned if I don't make my target as I have no muscle currently :P ) I'm also looking for some motivational friends :)
-
Just confused because everyone always says cardio gets you nowhere- I know a balance of the two is good, but I wondered what was the most effective thing in that case.

Hey there I'm new to here and always on the lookout for motivation and supportive connections. I've just become lazy during my time at university and so am looking to loose some weight and gain better eating habits and some strength and endurance. :)
-
I think you get the opportunity every time you complete a run, so there's always next time!
-
Hey guys, I'm hoping to just become healthier gradually, small changes to my diet and actually start exercising with regularity. Some delightful side effects of that will hopefully be a better figure and more strength and endurance. I really want my main focus to remain healthy choices rather than weight loss, so I'm…

Days where there's no breakfast listed I typically get up half 10 or later and so just have lunch instead. It'll probably change when I have appointments to keep. Otherwise, I might eat late breakfast, then lunch the middle of the afternoon and dinner about 7ish In some form or another there's a few meals a day, I'm never…

Started today after about 2 days of uhhming and ahhing. I've wanted to do it for years since I let my fitness slide. Can't wait to do the next day now.

For most phones you can choose to manually lock your phone (I know you can for iPhones), and on my phone as long as the app was open my phone never locked itself.
-
If you check the apps link on the navigation at the top of the page, you'll find C25K that synchs with MFP at the end of each run :)

Using METs (calories = METS * weight(kg) * time(hrs) I actually got a higher amount at about 200 cals, so maybe I should just stick the with app/adjusting the speeds it assumes I reach to those I actually achieved - it does time my changes for me.
-
I checked my speeds and times at them, then added them separately (like the app had while assuming my speed) and it brough it down a bit, but I have no idea what is a reasonable amount :P

Thanks, both of you. I don't just take everything I'm told as gospel, I'm a scientist so I like to look into things too. But on the whole I have never really found out a lot about these simple things. I'm not into the whole 'clean' food thing, it can start drifting into pseudoscience for me a bit. But nutrition is…

Oh my gosh, thank you. Such a great post to read. Thanks. That's really encouraging and inspiring for me, because it gets me down so easily when I think what's the point if I'm not really changing. One step at a time. I've already been better today (far from ideal but far happier).

Thanks. I really appreciate the supportive approach around here. Carbs are so accessible and just everywhere, it's been too easy to let them be part of everything I guess I need to gather my will and push through that one.
-
Thanks, that's exactly what I want! I just have been craving foods soon after meals and then having something 'small', but that leads to another something and another... I do prefer eating more regularly so more worthwhile foods are definitely on my list of things to change. Overall better health and choices is priority to…

Thanks, that's a great idea! I do need to pay more attention to my food groups - although I'm not very good at knowing what foods to up my protein and fibre, or how to combine them in meals.
-
Thanks, I've only just realised that you can tweak columns! Most of my water comes from fruit teas (usually just made of dried fruit/herbs so no caffeine).
-
Thanks! That's super helpful. I'm staying at my family home right now and it's so much harder because they eat differently and getting my food in and then not giving into the abundance of carbs is so much harder. I do prefer eating more frequently but I worry it just ends in me eating more because I had a bad fortnight…

Just hungry from it, it's nothing new but since I'm trying to begin making healthier changes I want to see what a sensible approach to it is because previously I'd get something carby/sugary which obviously isn't a good idea. Right now I normally eat about 2000 calories, sometimes over by less than a hundred. I really have…
