  • Rowing. Lots and lots of rowing. It hits almost everything all at once and will improve his cardio as well. Then, when he figures out what his actual goals are, he'll be in better shape for all sorts of exercises (explosive powerlifting, CrossFit, running, etc.) from the training on the erg.
  • Eating too much of anything can make you sick and I suppose you could technically eat enough carrots to get fat, but eating "a lot" (say, two dozen large?) carrots a day wouldn't do anything to you other than make you sick of carrots.
