Pickleball anyone? It’s so addictive!

I’ve had good luck with Metamucil for curbing my hunger.

My poor sister in law has been in menopause for over 20 years.

Like many others, walking every day is important to my overall wellbeing. Low stress is another important factor.

PBS has a 2 part documentary series about the brain. Fascinating stuff about various parts of the brain and the role they play in our lives. Very applicable to weight control
-
I’ve found that the high fiber in Metamucil before indulging helps me with portion control. I’ll have it right before I walk out the door to the party.

Thanks so much for the clarification that the goal is wrong. Seventy five is quite doable.

Actually MFP says I should get 178 g of protein. How am I supposed to do that on 1400 calories?
-
After reading all of this yesterday , it’s clear that I need more protein. Amazon to the rescue: Muscle Milk on my doorstep this morning. The chocolate one tastes like a milkshake to me for 50 g of protein. Finally made it over 100 g. Very pleased.

My ultimate goal was to make changes that I could maintain after the weight loss. It’s harder to keep it off than take it off.
-
Yes maintaining is way harder than losing. I tell myself that whatever I don’t gain I don’t have to lose.
-
What a great post. Hopefully this plan will make it easier to keep the weight off. That’s even harder than losing it.
-
One thing I tell myself is that I don’t have to lose what I don’t gain. Also, my go-to exercise that I like is walking, which nets me an extra 350 calories per hour. So before I indulge, I break the calorie “cost “ into how long it would take me to burn it off with walking. Is it worth the cost? If so I indulge.

I had bone on bone also and found that biking, either with a spin class or a real bike ride (30 minutes a day) really helped me. Cortisone shots helped me for awhile, but biking was better. Ultimately the only cure is knee replacement surgery (done in January).

I get on the scale every morning. It keeps me focused on the goal. I also record the weight in a journal with a few comments about challenges or successes.

I just got back from a 2 week cruise and now have to get back to reality. Only gained 2 lbs but know how to lose it.
-
Metamucil is my go-to
-
My strategy is to weigh myself every morning to see where I am and adjust my diet accordingly. Not for everyone of course but this works for me long-term

As NAMI Connection Support Group says, Mental illnesses are medical illnesses that may have environmental triggers. There’s no shame in having to take medication for them, just like there’s no shame in taking insulin or heart medication.

I truly don’t know what these MFP acronyms mean: DH, OH

Back in my twenties I decided to become a bodybuilder. I didn’t hire a trainer because I thought it would be a waste of time and money. blew out my knee (bursitis) and had knee issues, and eventually arthritis and two knee replacements. A trainer would have been a better choice for me. Just saying.

Strangely enough, I am unable to pick up 60 lbs but that’s how much weight I’ve lost and kept off. We don’t realize how hard it is to carry additional weight. We don’t notice or feel that weight when it’s on us. We only notice that when it’s gone, we aren’t fatigued walking up a hill. Little things are different when we’re…

I’m recovering from knee surgery and it’s tough with no exercise. But thinking about how this is a long game helps. As long as we don’t give up we’ve got this.

Whidbey Island, Washington beach walk this morning

Actually it turns out that it was all inflammation and water weight

Everyone has to experiment to find out what works best for them, but for me the missing puzzle piece was a high protein breakfast. It was a game changer in terms of keeping me fuller longer.
-
Interestingly enough, before my recent knee replacement surgery they had me drin2 shakes a day for 5 days before surgery and 5 days after surgery to boost my protein levels. They kept me full longer than I thought and the protein helped with healing. I’m continuing with one per day. I do better with higher protein
