  • you win. that is defintely the worst gym pig of all time. There are times when one might wish to have the superpower of being able to fart on command. But, not loud, just really rotton-eggs-smelly. This would be one of those times.
  • 2 more ideas: oatmeal cookies granola
  • This. And, ignore any added water which you're going to drain off. If you add liquidy ingredients (like vinegar), I'd scale them back in the calculation as well. Pretty much the easiest way would be to just add a tsp or so of sugar and half that of salt to your serving--which is likely the profile of most marinades.
  • I keep hearing pickle juice is the killer cure for cramps. If anyone uses it, please share. Curious and I've never tried it. Also consider: - talking to someone at the local running store about your shoes (maybe it's time for a new pair) - talking to a coach or medical professional - making sure shoe laces are not too…
  • Blend them in a smoothie or Get at minimum, regular old fashioned "traditional" oats (not instant or quick--yuck), cook on the stove with almond, hemp, or oat milk (I use a blend) and throw in some nuts (walnuts or almonds) and fresh or frozen blueberries, apple cubes, whatever fruit or nuts you like. Don't cook them for…
  • 1. Shop alone. 2. Use your words -- don't tell us what the deal is, tell him. In a grown-up thoughtful conversation.
  • distraction -- drink a glass of water followed by a walk outside (and no, walking to the candy store doesn't count). and, I like the chocolate chia seed pudding ^^^ idea -- stealing that one.
  • anyone can have skinny armpits. how bout a killer goal like winning a SUP competion? working out, just to workout is boring.
  • This my dear, is so very true. Nice quote :) I actually came across the original journal articles in a library. Since the articles aren't all online for free, had to find substitutes to link to (per requests for sources) which is what led me to NY Times, Runner's World, etc. I'm curious, what's the source of the statement…
  • You are awesome. Love seeing posts like this. Thank you :)
  • I can relate. Beer and me are good pals. (Good beer anyway). Sometimes I can get by with a LaCroix instead of a beer though. It still has the satisfying swoosh when you open the can, and a little fizz without any sweetness (a decent substitute for beer in my book).
  • Wow, I completely apologize for upsetting you so badly. However, there is no misrepresentation on my part at all. I'm fascinated by the research and it fit the thread. Here's a quote from the author: In an interview, Dr. Hall said the longstanding assumption that cutting 3,500 calories will produce a one-pound weight loss…
  • I provided the source articles. See my first reply to you above. The #2 source is a very good read. I am more interested in the research than the calculator--it's interesting to see how everyone skipped the research and went straight to the calculator. I guess "what I'm trying to prove", or rather in my own words, my…
  • Sorry it confuses you, but I can't tell you when/if your rate of loss will change because there are too many variables. That's part of the message. If I were to burn 1 lb of human fat in a vacuum, it would produce 3,500 calories of energy. However, none of us live in a vacuum--well, at least I don't and don't know anyone…
  • The researchers created a calculator here: http://www.pbrc.edu/research-and-faculty/calculators/weight-loss-predictor/ But, there are a lot of variables. Read the study.
  • Right. but, that will change with time. The slope is not a straight line, it's a curve.
  • Yes, I do. 1. Martin, C.K., et al., Effect of calorie restriction on resting metabolic rate and spontaneous physical activity. Obesity (Silver Spring), 2007. 15(12): p. 2964-73. 2. Thomas, D.M., et al., Why do individuals not lose more weight from an exercise intervention at a defined dose? An energy balance analysis. Obes…
  • Are you also tracking lean mass? At this point, I'd suggest tossing out the weight goal and focus on body composition (and maybe measurements in inches, and fat/lean %'s, not pounds). Here's why: Under a diet-only weight loss plan, individuals lose more lean mass than if the weight loss plan includes exercise. You however,…
  • It's time to chuck the 3,500 per pound rule. It doesn't work and only serves to create unrealistic expectations. The 3,500 value is based on science from the 1950's when a researcher calculated the amount of energy gained by burning a pound of fat.* Not really an accurate representation of the real world. New research…
  • this: What’s realistic? According to Hall, in the first year of a new weight-loss program, most overweight people will lose about half the weight that the 3,500-calories rule predicts. In other words, over 12 months, the new rule is 7,000 calories = one pound. (The math changes slightly over shorter and longer periods of…
  • Potatoes with skin with black beans on top. Can't think of anything more filling (lots of fiber too).
  • Can you eat less cheese and white rice? These foods are probably making things worse for you.
  • Ideas: -half or small slice of toast -half banana -1 oz cheese or 1/3 cup cottage cheese or yogurt -10 raw almonds (or ?? nut) -3-4 crackers -4 baby carrots -small portion "leftovers"
  • this. or, you could move it to the room with the heaviest reading before thanksgiving or [insert any eating/drinking holiday here] and back to the room with the lightest weight after the holiday so you can eat/drink more over the holiday without gaining as much weight.
  • There are a few online sellers for good imported green tea. I like den's tea. I've heard good things about rishi tea--both have great websites. Not sure if either will ship to Argentina, but worth a try. Other good places to look are: steepster.com (great tea ratings) and teaviews.com (good for finding ratings of tea…
  • How about looking into an activity-focused Meetup group in your area (a walking, hiking, or bicycling group). Or, try a yoga class and if you like it, sign up for a membership. Or, what about training for a race? like a 5k and finding a running group to train with.
  • The Polar watch is measuring--or rather estimating--your direct calories burned (all calories burned, whether exercise or otherwise) during the time period measured. However, it's not 100% perfect. Polar uses formulas that require constants for weight, height, etc. and makes assumptions for VO2max and HRmax. All that being…
  • Here's the key to avoiding the "greasy" hair feeling: If you use conditioner instead of shampoo, you have to avoid products that contain silicone (any ingredient with a name that ends in: cone, conol, col, or xane). MANY styling products have silicones and lots of conditioners have silicons as well (especially deep…
  • That map is very interesting, especially since it shows Use of Lousing Agents in Cold Storage at International Airports During the Month of April 2009. Ok, I totally made that up, but who knows what the map is reporting since there is no reference information provided to discern what pesticide, what time frame, and what…
