  • so how many of you change out shoes for your runs? When did you start that? Early on? or when you were running many more miles? [/quote] @seanevan10 I have several pairs in rotation. My fav brand is Altra with Asics and Brooks in a tie for second. Mine all serve a purpose based on how far I am running, what terrain I am…
  • This made me LOL & snort!
  • Today's run Aug 9 - 10.04 miles Burned 1113 calories! Woot woot!
  • Hello all! New here! I have always been a solo runner and haven't even had friends here on MFP so I figured its time to stop being antisocial. Lol! I started running about a year ago when I decided to run Spartan. I accomplished my trifecta and am now focusing more on distance running. I have my first official full…
  • Hello! Just joined this group. I am in Omaha, NE. Been looking for running buddies. I started running about a year ago when I decided to do obstacle course racing so I incorporated running into my training but now I am focusing more on distance running. Have my first official marathon next month and am hoping to run my…
  • I started keto about a week ago and although its difficult to make the changes (having to read labels and all with such scrutiny and removing certain foods), its been amazing! I read The Bulletproof Diet and am reading Hashimoto's Protocol because I was diagnosed with it in March. I refuse to accept that I have to take a…
  • I am in as well but I will be adding running goals to this for me personally. I am a runner anyway so incorporating these into my workouts will only help strengthen my core for better running. Is there a group we can join or do we just keep posting updates here?
  • Hello! I just saw this post so I guess I'm a late comer too. I started keto about a week ago and although its difficult to make the changes (like you said, having to read labels and all with such scrutiny), its been amazing! I read The Bulletproof Diet and am reading Hashimoto's Protocol because I was diagnosed with it in…
  • Great article. I have several books that talk about the same thing. Running is really more about the mind than the body. If we are not mentally prepared, then our bodies will not cooperate. Knowing how to focus and direct your thinking can make or break a goal. It takes practice, that's for sure! Thanks for posting!
  • I know my response is well after the fact but for anyone else who might read this, I found an excellent training plan for a 50miler from Marathon Training Academy. Its a 20 week plan and assumes you have a solid mileage base to start from. My first ultra is a year away but I have a full marathon in Sept and am using the…
  • First marathon on Sept 17; feeling nervous
  • I can try running in the morning when I get home. I'm a CNA and I work exclusively with advanced dementia residents. My job includes a lot of lifting so I definitely stay active even though it's night. I usually feel so tired when I get home but I'm willing to try anything to get a routine back. Its been stupid hot here…
  • I work 10:30p-6:30a, 40hrs/week. When I get home, I'm pretty much right back out the door to take my three kids to school. Right now my older ones are on summer break but my youngest has preschool year round. If I don't get some sleep before noon, it won't happen due to other responsibilities. I have run in the evening a…
  • I have my first full marathon in Sept at the Omaha Marathon. I ran the half last year in 2:11. I'd love to finish around 4:20 but since starting a new nursing job working nights, my training has been turned on its ear and I worry I won't be able to do it. I won't back out but it scares me to be a DNF.
  • So proud of you for how far you have come thus far. Keep going!!! You got this! I'm also a CNA. I work nights at a LTC facility specifically with residents who are living with advanced dementia & Alzheimer's. I love the job but working nights has derailed my training schedule. I'm also a mom of 3 so things feel insane some…
  • Doesn't look like it does but the full route does follow alongside the river. Here is the course map, just in case you wanna take a peek. http://www.mapmyrun.com/us/omaha-ne/hits-running-omaha-ne-new-marathon-route-259835333
  • Is this still an active thread?
  • You will LOVE Spartan! I did my first trifecta last year. Doing the MN Sprint, the Chicago super and the Breckenridge beast again this year. Spartan is addicting!
  • I'm 38, mom of 3 and just started Spartan racing and marathon running last year. Here's to all the fogeys!!
  • I use the training plans from Marathon Training Academy. They gave an ultra plan and suggest using a marathon as one of your long runs before tapering to the ultra. Check them out! They also have a podcast that is super informative. (I'm not endorsed by them or anything. I've just found them to be enormously helpful in my…
  • Good for you! Nothing feels better than accomplishing something you set your mind to. I am a marathon runner, a Spartan ocr runner and am training for my first ultra this fall. I log all my workouts so feel free to friend me. I'm not a pro but I have maintained my weight for almost 2 years and have found what works for me.…
  • I want to friend ppl in this thread. How do I do that from my phone?
  • Me too! I haven't gone completely backwards but I have big goals this year and big expectations of myself and my performance. I have kept my profile private for a long time but I think having a few friends who I can relate to will be encouraging!
