  • Sometimes I think its physcological with me too. I've spent my whole life not doing any exercise prior to Jan 2015 that if I miss a day I feel crap! Hence why doing the SL 5x5 3 times a week makes me feel "oh my goodness, how can I only work out 3x a week".... Of course I enjoy working out, both weights and cardio but as…
  • I just want a nice routine that consists of weights and cardio...Before I became interested in weights, I did 2x bodypump classes a week and the treadmill/crosstrainer 3x times a week (5-6k) and I enjoyed it but that was before I discovered weights.... Some might say I'm doing to much but its hard to find a routine that…
  • I just love working out!
  • OK, I knew some people would think this would be too much but if I said 1) I don't lift heavy and have no intension to lift 20kg,30kg,40kg etc over the next few months and 2) my cardio sessions are 30 minutes long and consist of rowing/crosstrainer or power walking - would this make a difference in thinking it was too much?
  • Thanks for your response! Yeah I would definately listen to my body, I rest at the weekend - is this sufficient? My goals are to lose weight, feel confident and look good: I lose weight by eating on a calorie deficit I feel confident when I do workout's I enjoy And I look good, when I feel confident, after doing a workout…
  • @AllanMisne...You are right! I am really overthinking it,if I can on going as low as I can, will this help me improve? I definately dont have good flexibility around this area....I cant even touch my toes when standing or sitting when I'm stretching out!....I'm more afraid of injuring my back :-( I dont use heavy weights…
  • God I feel so much better actually! Just reread ur post and maybe I'm not actually doing it all "so bad", just the wrong way round :-)
  • Now I feel foolish!! See! I told you I'm just not "getting it"....Youve hit the nail on the head for me...Honest truth, I've been trying to do low bar squat similar to the first picture buy of course looks like I'm trying to achieve something different i.e secong picture!!! BUT doesnt the strength training book teach u…
  • @Cheshirecata...I have had a personal trainer but not yet learnt the squat...He shown me deadlifts and other various compound workouts....I only got interested in the deep squat when I starting following SL 5x5 and reading starting strength.
  • Thanks for replying! When I go lower my knees and legs don't feel , I feel like my knees face forward but my legs feel like they are leaning inwards towards my tummy, It doesn't hurt but the knees/legs definately don't feel right! I've been doing body pump for 4 months so a half squat is no probs but when I squat lower it…
  • Also, the lower back exercise I described above, can I do this on a daily basis to strengthen my lower back?
  • Sorry to sound a bit dim but how do you screw your feet?
  • Thanks "Jimmmer" for the link, I've read through the article and will definately start trying the wall squats. I just went to the gym at lunch time and tried my newly found squat with a 10kg bar but it just didn't feel right at all....moreso on the knees, I feel like my legs are twisting away from my knees, I didn't enjoy…
  • OK, so I lowered myself into a squat and extended my arms/hands over my head and this is the position I was in….I felt my arms were leaning more forward than my middle and when I tried to put them back over my head I lost my balance! How can I correct this, I can't post pictures to my discussion for some reason!
  • Great tip AllanMisner, I will try this now and get back to you....
  • Yeah thats what I meant, I just meant I didnt know you used your Hips to power up from the squat as I've never done that! Yeah the chapter is talking about low bar squats
  • Can you remember what it was called? I'll be watching some videos tonight for definate! The post before you recommended I try with the Romanian Deadlift first so I will also watch some videos of that one too! I was so proud of myself too because I'd been practising the "form" - the PT words stuck with me when he said to…
  • God I'm so annoyed right now!! His words were "you need to sink your hips lower and engage them" Arrggghhh!!!
  • In fact I'm not confused, I'm damn right p**sed off!!!! I hate that!! When you "think" your learning what you wanted/asked to learn when infact you haven't!!!!
  • Thanks SezxyStef....That picture is really helpful.... I can really see the difference now between them.....and I definately don't mimic the first picture when doing the squat and vice versa.... I've learnt something very new again today! Thanks all!
  • Thats how my PT shown me how to do them.....maybe the bending of the knees going forward I got wrong as they are supposed to be in parrallel with your toes right? Lets not start a debate....I know deadlifts are not squats! I'm still learning the deadlift and do so with my PT....
  • Thanks all, I know deadlifts are not squats but when you go down for the bar you kinda do the same as you would when you squat....neutral back, bend knees forward, toes facing same as knees, bum out, engage hips, straighten/squeeze shoulders so I just assumed this was how all squats were done!
  • Oh thank goodness for that! I dont feel so silly afterall now but was wondering why I couldn't squat as low in Bodypump or squat fast when I was trying to sink lower! Phew.... Was a great class today as well! Thanks peeps for responding!!
  • Others advised not to do anything else if following SL's or that my body may be too tired because I was going to continue with bodypump on Tues and Insanity on Thursday as I love those classes, I love Insanity because I convinced myself that I would never be able to it because of its intensity, one day I just thought "sod…
  • If I said that I'm really really missing my bodypump and insanity classes which I'm not able to do whilst doing SL's, would you say to continue with what I actually LOVE!! Because I really am missing my bodypump and insanity classes :-( Do I HAVE to lift to achieve what I want to achieve?
  • So the word "tone" just means you've lost some fat from that area which is making the muscle re-appear (like my butt)?? I'm so confused right now! I dont have a clue what to do with myself at the minute!! I've had sessions with a PT who has shown me lots of compound movements and each session was different with him but I…
  • @DancingMoosie....Will getting strong help tone me? Since Jan I've lost 10inches from bust, waist and mainly hips and have noticed how lifted my butt is and how much smaller my waist has become and how much smaller my tummy has become and this was all before discovering lifting, this was from bodypump 2x weekly, running or…
  • Hi, thanks for your replies! I follow Weightwatchers so I am on a calorie deficit! My dress is Lace Up at the back! Even though I'm on a calorie deficit will I still tone up doing the SL programme? Prior to the SL programme I did bodypump twice a week along with cardio such as running/crosstrainer and I noticed a big…
  • Thanks for ur reply :-) I've started lifting at the gym and doing less cardo! Before I did Bodypump,Insanity & Running/Cross trainer about 5-6k but then I discovered lifting and am following the SL 5x5 and someone mentioned that MFP's recommended 65g protein for me was to low...I'm already on a calorie deficit but just…
  • I must start eating more then - I like that idea!!! I have been trying to increase my protein too this past week which has been quite successful, MFP states my allowance is 65g....
