  • Hi the other comments are great, particularly the one about the trail/trial period. This isn't any help unless you can manage something small, but I suspect if you start with something, you'll find that the benefits such as more energy may become motivating in themselves. For instance, I was really unfit so I started with…

  • Don't get too discouraged, 1 - 2 lbs per week is the recommended rate, you're doing really well. Congratulations. Slow but sure gives you time to establish good habits - at least, that's what I tell myself. Also, I tell myself that nothing worth having is easy

  • Hi I've lost 58 (26.4 kg) so far and have 49 (22.1 kg) to go to get to a healthy weight. I've had a bit of a medication change which is really helping. I'm hoping to follow other people who also have a lot to lose. I'm in NZ and walk a reasonable amount.
  • Also, congratulations to all those who have had losses this week, and to those who haven't but are still trying :)
  • MFP starting weight: 259 Challenge start weight: 215 Current weight: 190.2 (loss of 1.3) Total challenge loss 24.8lbs Not much, but it's better than nothing and last week our department had visitors from overseas and I needed to eat at a restaurant for every meal.
  • Ok so my goals for June are averaging 15000 steps a day, and to lose 4kg or get to 81.5 kg (or for Americans get under 180.
  • I'm loving my garmin connect :)
  • I hadn't heard of it but would be keen to give it a go. Might be a way to communicate that I don't want to eat junk food. At the moment refusing food at work is awkward.
  • I agree about having a challenge for June - it's a great idea. A distance goal would work for me, or steps or total time exercising. We could also aim to have a certain number of days under our calorie target. My personal goal is to average 15000 steps a day for June but 10000 would be a reasonable goal.
  • I don't actually find it that pleasant when people say that I've lost weight (31kg or 68 pounds) Most people I know have commented, including all my work mates, family, friends, even people I barely know. I feel quite self-conscious having a discussion about my weight with people I don't know well. I'm also very aware that…
  • Hi Brans34 I've updated your info on the spreadsheet. I lost 2.7 this week, so a total for the challenge of 23.5. I'm not having such a good week food wise though - we've had guests from overseas and have needed to eat 'banquets' for most meals, which are really, really hard to keep track of. Anyway, they've gone, so…
  • It's nice to have someone posting on this board! It's pretty cold in Christchurch today, but at least it's not so windy and it's fine. @nicnz I can't even contemplate going to a fitness class let alone teaching one. Good on you for getting to that stage! @caj45 Congratulations on making so many changes. My stress levels…
  • Hi thanks for sharing :) I've sent you a friend request. Good luck!

  • Congratulations that's not a small victory. Thanks for sharing!
  • Hi I'm vegetarian too but I don't eat eggs. The general rule seems to be you can eat back 65% od MFP exercise calories - MFP tends to overestimate. After a strong reluctance to use supplements, I finally caved and bought split pea protein powder. Since then I've been losing more weight and am much less hungry. My protein…
  • Hi I'm glad that I have found this group. It's nice to read how you're going. I've had a reasonable day. 24000 steps. Eating ok, but I'm still a bit hungry and I haven't got any more calories. Anyone who wants more NZ friends feel free to add me - particularly appreciate it if you introduce yourself. I've been using MFP…
  • I got to the top of a hill (elevation 374m) without taking a break! I was expecting to only be able to take it 10 steps at a time, and to be pouring with sweat, but I got to the top no worse for wear. (This weekend I plan to do the same walk in the light).
  • I think it's totally natural to be finding adjusting to a lower weight stressful. ANY change is stressful, and particularly when it involves part of our identity. I'm at the other end of the spectrum, I have never gotten used to being obese (just made it into the 'overweight' range last week). I think that I would have…
  • Congratulations that's great!
  • Hi it's perfectly normal to eat for comfort. We've done it since we were babies - feeding babies is one of the first things we try when a baby's scratchy. And then our parents and other adults reward us with food. It is objectively a hard cycle to break. Also eating sugar (particularly) releases feel good chemicals in the…

  • Congratulations on getting under 300lb!
  • Yes the actual goal percentage is changing not just the amount in grams. If it was just the amount in grams changing I would have found it easier to understand. It's only since the phone app updated.
  • Hi, I'm vegetarian too and overweight, but I have been managing to lose some weight. I'm finding split pea protein powder really helpful. It's not very high in calories, but (obviously) contains a lot of protein which keeps me full and stops me overeating. You can buy other types of protein powder if you don't like the…
  • Yes, is it varying depending on the amount of exercise I do?
  • I'm 5'8.5. I think that aiming for 9 stone 6 is okay but you wouldn't want to go any lower - at 59kg (about 9 stone 6) I was often asked if I had an eating disorder. I think that you may find it hard to maintain that weight and eat healthily, but you can see how you go. You don't need to be that low to look good and be…
