When I'm 400 or 500 or 600 calories over for a day, when I click on the green "Complete this entry" button, I'm reassured when it says, "If every day were like today, you'd weigh X in 5 weeks," and X is only two or three pounds more than I weigh now. Helps to put a one-day splurge in perspective. And of course every day…

I'm not saying you should work out the day after Christmas; not saying that at all. But I predict that if you do, you'll have a great workout. A few months ago I went out for a great Italian restaurant meal -- two glasses of wine, meat lasagna, dessert. It must've been 2000 calories. I was at a deficit then (maintenance…

Don't sell yourself short! I just turned 57 and have lost 60 pounds, bringing me back to 140, about what I weighed in my mid-30s. I feel as though I entered a time machine. Physical activity is fun again, and I revel in my strength. I did this slowly, over 2 1/2 years, but I was going to be 57 one way or another, at 200 or…

Glad to hear you get such a good amount of exercise, and I'm sorry it doesn't help with the boredom eating. I wish you strength and patience as you embark on this project.
-
OP, do you do any kind of exercise? You mention all the different weight loss programs you've tried, but you say nothing about exercise. It sounds to me as though you're starting off with the hardest thing (for you), your relationship with food. I have found that working out makes me want to eat better, so it's not such a…

I'm grateful for things I've learned from logging. For example, I had no idea how many calories are in tortilla chips, one of my go-to snacks. Just 9 chips is 140 calories. By contrast, three Oreo cookies are 160 calories. It's so easy to mindlessly eat half a bag of chips. I never do that any more. If I really want chips,…

I lost 25 pounds just by exercising a lot and paying some attention to what I ate, but not counting. Then my weight loss stalled, so I joined MFP and started counting calories and logging exercise, and I've lost another 32 or so. I'm close to my goal now, so I've set myself to lose half a pound a week, which gives me more…

If you're overeating in the evening, it sounds as though you might not be eating enough during the day. Have you set your goal to losing two pounds per week? If so, change to one pound per week, which will give you more calories. Then experiment with the timing of your meals; maybe wait a little longer before you have…

I've been doing Body Pump for about a month; it's offered as part of the regular membership at the Y in my town. For me it's been exactly the right thing at the right time. I'm within five pounds of my goal, have been doing TRX and lots of other exercise so I have some level of fitness, but I'm not ready to embark on a…

I find I overeat treat foods when I'm hungry. If I've budgeted calories for two cookies and I end up eating six, it's often because I haven't eaten enough real food. Sometimes I give in and eat the darned cookies, but if I'm being strong and disciplined I'll get myself a quarter cup of cottage cheese and a carrot or half…

I'm not usually a stress eater, but sometimes I find myself eating more than I want to/mean to of snacks, especially corn chips and Oreos or good chocolate chip cookies. When I catch myself eating five or six cookies instead of one or two, I often realize that I'm actually still hungry, that I haven't had enough real food.…

TRX! I'm not quite ready to start lifting. I can see my muscles growing with TRX. I'm viewing it as prep for a lifting program.

I'll be 57 in two weeks. I've lost 55 of my goal of 60 pounds (5'5", 200 to 145), and at this point I'm not focused on losing the last 5. If it happens, fine; if it doesn't, that's fine, too. I'm still logging most days to make sure I don't gain. I've found this MFP discussion fascinating:…

They're just not my thing, except for sometimes a French cruller. Cookies, though -- now you're talking!

But if you hadn't lost weight, and were instead working on upgrading your wardrobe or working with a stylist and coach to improve yourself in other ways, why would people only comment on the changes in terms of weight? It's not about the commenter's intention, whether it's to compliment or insult. Why can't they/we see…

But the author isn't saying she feels people were trying to insult her; she's not talking about intent at all. She's saying, why are so many comments about appearance framed in terms of weight, when the change in appearance isn't to do with weight at all? She's saying many of us view positive or negative in terms of weight…
-
No, the author has separated her self worth from her weight and is bothered when it seems other people view anything positive or negative in terms of weight only. She concentrates on being happier and healthier, and therefore dresses better and takes more care to look good which helps her feel good. She thinks she has if…

I don't much like doughnuts so this particular food wouldn't tempt me. But if it were something like, say, really good-quality bakery cookies, I'd finish my lunch and leave the break room, telling myself I could have a cookie in an hour if I still really wanted it. If my lunch was filling enough, I'd probably forget about…

But I thought I was speshull! (I can tell I'm going to love maintenance.)

I was never skinny, but I wasn't significantly overweight growing up. I'm 5'5, weighed 120 when I graduated from high school; at 30 I weighed about 140 and was in great shape -- I didn't have a car, so I walked and biked everywhere. From age 30 on I gained about two or three pounds per year. (Got my first car in my…

There are people I see just once per week, at church. Several of them comment on my weight loss every single week, and don't talk to me about anything else. I used to enjoy actual conversations with these people, but now they're just repetitive and boring. Yes, I've lost weight, yes, I'm still losing, can we move on now?

Hi, Julia and everyone. Julia, you asked for recipes. Here's one of my favorite lunches, which I have 2 or 3 days a week. Salad with half a cup of greens (I use a mix of baby spinach and arugula), 3/4 cup of frozen mixed vegetables, thawed (you could boil them for a minute or two if you want, but I just throw them in…

My goal is to lose 60 pounds; I've got about 11 more to go. Two things have helped me internalize the change in my body so far. 1) Reappearance of my collar bones. I just love the fact that when I hold my shoulders in a neutral position, I have visible collar bones, that even cast shadows if the light is from the right…

I moved from Massachusetts to southwest Florida about three years ago. There are many elderly people here who do very well. But I see many people in their late 60s to late 70s (I'm 56) who aren't doing well at all -- limited mobility, breathing problems, chronic joint pain, etc. I so don't want to be in this latter group!…

Link doesn't work; just goes to my own recipe box.

I weigh myself at home every morning, but I know my old analog scale isn't that great. I take TRX at the Y every Wednesday evening, and weigh myself on their balance scale after every class, always wearing the same clothes (shorts, t-shirt, no shoes). This is the only weight I really count, and the weight I post on MFP.
