  • Just for today (Monday, 4/13): I'm going to try to be really patient with the world around me. I want to get through the piles of paper on my desk and throw out duplicates; shred the papers in my shredding basket. I'm going out to dinner with a friend tomorrow, so I'm going to check the menu online and plan what I'm going…
  • Thank you for your nice post, Robert. I cannot afford to get rid of these foods and replace them. Actually, I can't afford to do any grocery shopping this month at all because I have to pay for my new glasses (mine are 12 years old); it will be nice to see well again. I've been surviving on my husband's social security…
  • I was 79 this morning! Yahoo!!
  • I like Yoplait. When I lived on the East Coast, there was another brand that was even better than Yoplait, but I can't remember the name of it (moved away 3/15/2007). If I think of it, I'll post it here. The flavors I like are strawberry, peach, mixed berry, blueberry... I'm not into the cakes and weird flavors, unless I…
  • Oops... I started the challenge at 199.8.
  • I weighed in at 191.6 this morning (yes, I'll take all the tenths I can get ;) ). Almost breaking the 190 mark! Long way to go, but I can do it with all the help on MFP. Thank you! Linda
  • Great Web site, Keiko ('love your dog, by the way; husky or malamute?). Thank you for your help. I'm going to call the doctor's office today and see if they can refer me to a nutritionist if I can't get this figured out.
  • Thanks, Keiko. He was so cavalier about how to monitor my foods, just telling me to use what MFP sets up for me, but it's only based on weight loss, not weight loss and lower A1C. I'll go to the other group you mentioned and the Web site. There are so many groups and Web sites; I spent all weekend trying to find what I…
  • MKE_gal, what a great Web site/blog you have. Are you still taking subscriptions? You provide many wonderful links, and I found each one I clicked on gave me the information I needed. I like that you provide alternates, too. Thank you! Linda
  • Hi, jmcdaniel. I, also, work online. My issue is not smoking anymore and now I can't eat instead of smoke. I'm doomed! And I'm hungry. Here's what I've tried that has been helpful: air-popped popcorn, with a tad bit of salt. I sure miss the butter, but I can munch on quite a bit of popcorn without going crazy.
  • Hi, R_Queenie! I'm three-days old and definitely need help. I'm so hungry! I have none of the "good" foods here; just the full-fat, full-sugar, high-carb foods. I can't afford to replace all the bad stuff until they're used up, so I'm spending hours every day planning meals. My focus is on carbs, fat, and sugar, as I was…
  • Hi, Keiko. No, the doctor told me to come here and, when my calories, carbs, sugars, and fat are done for the day, I'm done eating. Gee, that's a lot of help, isn't it? I have yet to eat the full amount of protein and calories. I've been good at limiting carbs and sugar, but I'm HUNGRY! And I seem to spend way too much…
  • Terri, my home-care nurse and doctor both told me to keep my fasting blood sugar (FBS) to under 150 (and two hours after a meal). If my FBS is 147, they're both happy with that. I'm aiming for 120 just for my own edification, but I don't want to shortchange myself that will drive me to bingeing. You're probably doing great…
  • I can't figure out why my fasting BG varies so much; I'm so careful not to eat anything sweet at night, and I always remember to take my insulin. Anyway, my fasting BG this morning was 91. I'm very happy about that. It's the lowest so far! Yesterday, it was 141, and last night I had two Nutrigrain maple and brown sugar…
  • Hi! I ran into this thread and liked the idea of it, so here I am. I'm three-days old and already having a lot of trouble. I've lost 7 pounds of water weight so far, but I know it's just water weight, so the rest of the road is going to be tough. I have another 25 pounds to go, and I've only once made it to my goal (about…
  • muimi07, I, also, have to be careful because of my legs (too much surgery and more to come). My physical therapist visits weekly and gives me leg exercises to strengthen them, and my occupational therapist comes weekly, too, and gives me arm exercises to strengthen them. It's really tough when we start, isn't it? I work up…
  • e9196tep, has the topimax helped with the neuropathy? I've had to learn to live with it, as no one has been able to treat it, and I'm tired of all the drugs. Vertigo? I have that problem because of Meniere's disease, so I sure don't want to go through more of it. Was it just the first time you took it? How long did it last?

  • squankmuffin, are you still on neurontin? Did you let your doctor know about your lightheadedness? My doctor had me on 3 tablets morning, noon, and evening; I decreased to 1 and then went to 2. The lightheadedness and dizziness stopped, but I have to put up with some leg pain. Although I have severe neuropathy, it hasn't…

  • Yes, I've heard that neurontin causes weight gain. I've been on it for about 6 weeks and gained 18 pounds just in the last 3 weeks. I don't know if that was the cause, because I just joined here yesterday and wasn't recording my food before that. The doctor was concerned and will run some tests, as that 18 pounds is huge!…

  • Hi! I just joined yesterday, and I'm so glad I found this group. I work from home, teaching at an online university. Because my left leg swells so much, I have to get up regularly and walk around. My physical- and occupational therapists visit me every week, and each has given me exercises I need to do to build up my legs…
  • Hi! I'm Linda, and I joined MFP yesterday. So far, so good, but I have a horrible sweet tooth. Until I can afford (or need) to go grocery shopping, I have to use up the foods I have in my pantry and fridge. I have lots of regular Jell-O gelatin and pudding, Reddi Whip (share it with one of my cats; she gets a 1" squirt…
  • These are wonderful posts of articles. I copied both to my "Motivation" directory (MyFitnessPlan subdirectory) so I can revisit as often as I need to. Knowing the difference between physical and emotional hunger and the triggers are going to help me greatly. Thank you! Linda

  • joiroland, I lost my husband last August from a rare form of cancer for which there was no cure. He fought hard for four years, when his prognosis was only for one-to-two years. When he was diagnosed, I cried. He didn't, but I have no doubt he did when I wasn't around. I finally cried at night before I went to sleep so I…
  • Thank you, all of you, for your kind and supportive welcome. My husband and I had no family, and because we were both home-bound, it wasn't easy to make any friends. As it turns out, after he died, a bunch of people showed up! People I didn't really know, but they were there to help and support me in any way they could.…
  • The brownies would have been gone by now! That's why I give away most of what I end up baking. After one (or two) pieces, I've had enough; the craving is gone. I then give away what is left, if it can't be frozen. If it can be frozen, in the freezer it goes.
  • ritualsilence83, I wasn't going to respond to your post because others have given their opinions, many of them very wise. However, when I read, "he doesn't work," I had to post. Why doesn't he work? Is he wealthy? He has too much time on his hands; is he being lazy, sending you to the gym and not going with you? Why did he…
  • SashaMaja, I, also, have chronic pain from osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia, two hernitated discs that press on a nerve in my back, and seven operations on my legs since my husband passed away eight months ago. When the pain meds wear off, what are we left with? Whatever we can grab to make us feel better. Why not chocolate,…
  • yfoster6, I bought a limited amount of Easter candy and ate it all before Easter. It was there, so why not? Of course, that was before I joined this community (yesterday) and got some support. We're only human, after all. As long as the candy is gone, you're safe! I have some Lindt chocolates in the fridge and don't want…

  • I read some of the posts from members that said they could add their information using the phone app. I don't have that kind of phone. I use it to make calls and set my alarm. So... do I just post my progress here to be added? Could anyone tell me how I post a reply to a particular post? I've followed the instructions from…
  • Thank you, Keiko. I don't know why I didn't think of that. Until a couple months ago, I was cooking extra meals regularly. I even bought a small chest freezer so I could put my cooking efforts in the deep-freeze for a quick meal. Other than a few hamburgers, I've eaten all the frozen entrees I made. I guess it's time to…
