  • Week 1, day 5 (started 4/11). I'm down 4.6 pounds and very happy about it. I know it won't be long before my scale will stall, too; it always has when I've tried to watch my weight. Knowing it will happen will be easier to handle when it does. I've had three low-blood sugar episodes in seven days, and I've decided to…
  • Thanks, Robert! I tried to find the low carb group but maybe I ended up in the wrong place. I'll try again. Yes, I love all types of meat and dairy. Low carb would undoubtedly help me with my blood sugar, too. If you get a chance, please read my note about my FSB. If I can find the right group, I'll check in there. I don't…
  • FSB: 122 That's not too bad, considering I had another hypoglycemic episode last night. My FSB was 106 yesterday morning, I had an excellent brunch and a banana as a snack, but as I was making dinner my blood sugar plunged. I'm so tired of this! I have given up on this diet thing (had an ounce of fudge for dessert last…
  • Thanks for clarifying the glycogel versus glucogel, Robert. I thought there was a new medical advancement out there that crossed barriers again. Thanks, also, for the suggestion on lower carbs. I thought it was carbs that filled us up. Is it protein instead? I love protein, especially in the form of ribeye steaks,…
  • Started out as a good day: FSB was 106. :)
  • Hi, Robert. What's glycogel? Is it that stuff I've seen in a tube that melts in the mouth rather than having to be digested in the stomach? I've gotten to the point, now, that I check my blood sugar before I take my insulin at night so I can avoid those lows. So far, so good; but I've been on a four-day binge of eating way…
  • 170 after another day of eating way too much, including chocolate before bed. Ugh! :s
  • SW: 199.8 Week 2: 197.2 after four days of "I can't eat enough" eating. Goal: 170
  • I'm with you, tigre! I'm starting again, too. I was doing great for the first six days, but four full eating days and lots of arguing with myself later, I'm tired of failing at this and want to get back to how I felt when I started. Why is it so difficult to get back on the wagon? We can help each other! Linda
  • Back on track. I started at 199.8 on 4/11 (my first day here) and was 196 this morning. And this was after the Texas Roadhouse, Cold Stone Creamery, and making about four dozen cinnamon- and caramel rolls (taste testing, of course). I'm shocked and happy! :)
  • Hi! Despite sampling my homemade cinnamon- and caramel rolls before taking them to the pot luck dinner last night, my fasting blood sugar was 80 this morning! Awesome! I think that was due to all the dough-rolling and making all those trips to the community room. I even lost weight overnight! :)
  • You're right, Sweets. My nurse (and doctor) said to aim between 80 and 110. When I get into the 70s, though, I usually drop quickly if I don't eat within 30 minutes.
  • Hi, Mick. I didn't say it was "too low," I just said it was lower than the day before. And I know that, even though it was a good 83, if I didn't eat soon it would get lower. That's why I said I had to eat soon. For example, yesterday I didn't get a chance to eat until about 4 p.m. That's too long to wait to eat. Eating…
  • Surprisingly, despite the week I had at the Texas Roadhouse, Cold Stone Creamery, and making cinnamon and caramel rolls for the pot luck dinner yesterday, I weigh 197.2, down 2.6 net pounds for the week! I couldn't be happier!
  • Well, I went to the Texas Roadhouse with a friend last night. We had planned it for almost a month. My home-care nurse told me to go and enjoy myself, not focusing on calories and such. Okay... I did that (I always follow orders, after all); even had a Margarita! I ate almost 4500 calories just for dinner! Yep, up 2 pounds…
  • I have an even naughtier confession. My home care nurse told me to go out with my friend last night and have a good time, not focusing on calories. Well, I'm very good at following orders, so I went and didn't focus on calories. When I came home (Texas Roadhouse) and logged in everything I ate, it was a 4,554-calorie meal,…
  • Hi, Keiko. If you get them hooked up, post a picture for us. On the show, "It's Me or the Dog," there was a husky owner, she had 5 of them, I think, and she had put wheels on a sled so they could pull her (and her kids) along and get their exercise. It's amazing to me how they all work together. I also watch "Life Below…
  • Thank you, Robert. We didn't go last night, as I found a fraudulent charge on my credit card so I had to order a new one. I should have it today or tomorrow. We're going to hit the Texas Roadhouse tomorrow night. I'm looking forward to those ribs (I'm determined to take half of them home). I'm going to have to figure out…
  • 101 this morning. Yesterday, though, I had two low-blood sugar episodes about four hours apart. That really scared me, as I've been so careful with what I eat and the insulin I take. Even after the glucose tablets (two for the first episode, three for the second), I was so shaky and scared, since this has never happened to…
  • Thank you, branbuds. I'm glad you recognize that others do want to help but won't know what to do unless we ask-or they ask. I've always prided myself on being strong and never needing help, but Al's needs took all I had. It wasn't until after he passed that I recognized just how much help I needed. It got easier to answer…
  • Thank you, shadow. I lost my first husband when I was 21 (41 years ago); we were married only 10 months. He was a cop and killed in the line of duty. I didn't get to the hospital until after he passed. I still miss him and a part of me will always love him. Twelve years later, Al came into my life and the next 30 years…
  • Easy to say, harder to do, but thanks.
  • Good morning, sice. I added you as a friend so we can chat. Being disabled is tough, because we have to rely on others to help us. I'm okay in my apartment now, thanks to the occupational therapist, but getting out as much as I like is tough. I feel good just being able to walk up and down the halls when my legs support…
  • Good morning, gturner. I was wondering about that, too. I noticed in the food log there's a place where we can add our own creations. I would guess we would calculate the calories/carbs/fat/sugar for each ingredient, calculate the total for the recipe, then divide by the number of servings to get the data per serving.…
  • Hi! I'm in Saint Cloud. Great town.
  • Keith, you have made wonderful adjustments, using "regular" food. You've inspired me to be able to use up the foods I have here until I can go grocery shopping again and buy better-for-me food. If I make adjustments like you do, I should be okay. Thank you! Linda
  • I had a low blood sugar issue this morning; two glucose tablets took care of it. I don't know why it happened, as I was careful with what I ate yesterday (gained almost a pound, unfortunately) and had my snack before I went to bed. Thank goodness I woke up when I did. I thought I was shivering because it was chilly in my…
  • Just for today: This is a biggie. I'm going out to dinner with a friend. Before we go, I'm going to check the online menu and figure out what I'm going to order. I know I'm going to have (just) two tater skins, and there goes 472 calories already! So... Just for today, I'm going to relax a little tonight, have a good time,…
  • Hi, Bri! I love your analogy about paperwork and weight. Excellent! I'm going to start thinking about it that way; it should definitely get me inspired to clear it up and keep it that way. I'm going back to work part-time on May 4, and I sure would like to have my desk cleared off from all that stress; some of the…
