  • Swim.. swim... and maybe swim. It's fun, it's relaxing and with summer coming, you don't get hot and sweaty (maybe it's just me but when I start seriously sweating, rather than thinking I'm really accomplishing something now, I feel like I am being fat shamed by my own body which is not exactly motivating). Check the gyms…
  • [quote=munches m&m's[/quote] Too awesome for words! To OP.... Figure out what about fits into your plan and set that amount aside and when you have a bit of your allotment, don't sneak it.. savor every bit of it. Every week, try lessening the amount or delay it for a day... Have it every other day. I have the worst craving…
  • I have the same issue. I got shredded on the board for a week or so ago for under eating but seriously... you spend your entire overweight life being told to ask yourself if you are hungry or just bored and only eat when you are hungry. The only times I have actually met my 1200 goal lately is when I had a cheat. I'm just…
  • I made it a treat and I tell myself "Next Time" alot. I used to drink 2liters of soda a day I substituted Crystal Light Iced Tea w/ Lemon as my go to beverage and rather than eliminating soda completely, I made it a reward. After a good workout day I get to have an ice cold glass bottle of Mexican Pepsi with actual sugar.…
  • LOL - OK - it's 3am and I have the trainer in 9 hours so ... No ice cream in the house but Greek Yogurt and a Kind bar and OJ? and I am out. Tomorrow is a new day, new goal. At the very least, hit 1200. Thank you!!! Sometimes complete strangers telling you you're an idiot (especially in at kind hearted manner) actually is…
  • Trainer is a friend so not a problem there. It's not that I can't afford food, It's that I can't afford 3000 calories worth of QUALITY food on multiple swim days a week. I truly am trying to add more food, It's a mindset change, I didn't get here overnight, I'm not going to break it over night. I have good days and bad…
  • Unfortunately, yes, It's an issue I am trying to work on. If I am not home, I don't eat and especially this past week or two, I have not been home much. I have started carrying Kind and Cliff bars with me and I have them in my locker at the gym but I spent way too many years trying to eat only when I was actually hungry…
  • I guess I am trying to find a happy medium. I rarely even hit the 1200 calories that MFP recommends so when I add a 5000meter swim and 3 miles of walking to that, I'm never going to be able to eat that back. I could not afford to if I even wanted to. At the same time, when I do the weights I generally don't do the swim so…
  • Thanks. The problem is that when you are 5' tall and weight 265, dropping 60 basically just takes less chocolate and a bottle of Pepsi 1 or twice a week rather than 2liters every day. The second 60 actually effort and since I'm truly motivated but ADD as hell, I want to take as much advantage of this hyper focus phase as…
  • I openly acknowledge when my eating sucks. If I am not home, I don't eat. It's a problem. That's why I started carrying the protein bars in my bag. I will at least eat those. If anything, the last week of not being home and so not hitting my levels proves my point. I lost maybe 1lb.
  • My roommate eats 3000 calories between 8pm and 11pm and is a size 0. Who knew being batshit crazy was good for your metabolism?
  • I totally get you! I got thoroughly annoyed when despite increasing workouts from 1 30 minute to 3 1 hour long a week and adding swimming my weight stayed exactly the same for a month. My trainer had me start logging my meals and then gave me holy hell because I had about half the proteins I needed and was even worse on…
  • Frustrating. My mind and heart and lungs were ready to add another set to my swim, my muscles however balked. I can't get past 5000 meters. I drink between sets and avoid pushing off but my legs still start cramping in the final set. Annoying!
  • Weekly yes, daily no. Hell, I weighed two lbs less when I left the gym today wearing more clothes and with wet hair than I did when I got there (The early number annoyed me, so I tried again before I left). Rather than motivate me that just confused the hell out of me. Daily fluctuations just wreak havoc on your motivation…
  • My fav is chocolate protein powder, Almond milk, a banana and blackberry ice cubes. (Pureed blackberries thrown into ice cube tray). The frozen blackberries make it rich and thick like a shake. Yummy decadence without the cheating. I also do this with strawberries and have a caramel protein powder that I add frozen peaches…
  • IThe way I keep track of laps and keep motivated is that I start with a 10 lap set then add 2 laps every set. Since my goal is 200 I know that once I hit my 28 lap set I have 10 more to go. Unfortunately cramping has been as issue so I don't always get there but I can still do the math to figure out my total laps at the…
  • I have to laugh because I just did these this week. Having no sense of balance made them even more interesting but I think these are a keeper.
  • Also try Snapper, Swordfish and Ahi. Wildcaught ocean fish tend to be less flaky and texturally are more meaty. You feel like you are eating something with actual substance. To reduce the "fishy" smell and taste, soak the fish in buttermilk for 30-60 minutes prior to cooking. The acidity in the buttermilk will cut the…
  • When I started back working out I was coming back from a torn labrum with maybe 60% of the mobility and stability in my shoulder that I had previously (I could only raise my arm about 10" above my head). I got a trainer, we stayed light on areas that were affected by the injury but did not avoid it. We pulled back a little…
  • It's a nice jump start but if it's the main tool in your arsenal, you are going to end up back where you started when you come off it.
  • When I am lifting I joke with my trainer, lots of laughing, not a lot of thinking. When I am swimming (my cardio) I just imagine him pushing me to get through the set and his "if you were really a bad *kitten*, you would do a X more" taunts. If I'm working on a design project sometimes I"ll try to run through different…
  • I do it and I love it. I have putzed around in the pool for a couple months but last week got serious. I do 10 laps, rest, 12, rest, 14, rest on so forth until I can go no more. Friday I did 200 laps. (25 meter pool), Saturday I got in 150 before I got horrible legs cramps that went from my shin to the middle of my foot…
  • It really depends on what that person is doing and what their weight is. My numbers can be crazy but I'm 5' tall, weigh 209 right now and am swimming 3500-5000 meters. I also don't use MFP numbers for that. There is a better calculator for swimming that uses your weight, the amount of time you swam and the distance to…
  • Karilou... The headphones have been great for me. The ones I use have a built in MP3 player and are made by Pyle if you are looking for some.
  • I started at 265 and about a month ago hit 218 and stalled out. no gain, no loss, 218 for 3 weeks. Last week I got back in the pool. I start out with 10 laps at a comfortable pace. I rest for 2-3 minutes then go for 12 laps. After eavh rest I add two more laps to the next set. Yesterday I got up to a total of 200 laps…
  • I was where you are when I started out about 8 months ago. I am 5ft tall and weighed 265. My BP, sugar and cholesterol were perfect. As I told my trainer, I was the most digustingly healthy morbidly obese person he'll ever meet. I am financially stuck living with a mentally ill roommate and the stress had caused me to gain…
  • Your relationshop with your PT is like any other relationship. It takes a bit to find the right match. When I went back to the gym last year my first trainer was WAYtoo rah-rah for me. He might have been effective but if he tried to high five me one more time I was going to have to hurt him. Next guy was very nice but he…
  • I am 48yrd old 5' and halfay(ish) on this crazy journey. As of today I have lost 54lbs. I do an hour of weights 3 times a week but my cardio was spotty at best. I stalled at 218 for three weeks which drove me nuts. I "know" that muscle weighs more and that I was losing fat but not having that number change at all was about…
