  • Can you describe a typical binge? Where are, what are you doing, what do you eat, how often does this happen?
  • I love this thread. Yes, I definitely decide every day what's worth it and what isn't. I realized a few years ago that I don't really love sandwiches, so it's not worth it. I'd rather have a salad for lunch, or dinner leftovers or eggs and spinach. Same with bagels. Sure I like them, but I don't love them. For the amount…
  • Whoa op, do not take the advice to skip the placebo pills and start a new pack without making sure you get a new prescription. If you go through your pack too fast, your insurance may deny the next pack when you need it because they don't want to pay for it every 3 weeks when it is subscribed every 4 weeks. Ask for dr AND…
  • If it's intentional exercise (a walk during your break) and not part of your routine day, then yes you're supposed to eat some back. Many people only eat back 50-75 percent to offset inaccuracies. Keep this in mind: if your walk leads to a small amount of calories (let's say 100) it's probably not wise to eat it back. But…
  • The medicine comments are making me wonder if my birth control pills have calories. Oh well, certainly I'll weigh less with them than without
  • Edit : I mean how many servings are you entering for the whole recipe? For example, if you would expect to eat that soup 4 times , then you enter 4 servings and it will calculate the calories for 1 serving. But your job isn't done: you then weigh the whole thing in grams and divide that amount by 4 so you know exactly how…
  • When you enter all the ingredients, how many servings are you entering? Maybe too many?
  • Good points. However, I've seen intrinsic fans scoff at calorie counting because they think we act like robots: weigh and log and when you have hit your limit you stop eating. I'd like to think most of us are smarter than that. We've developed many strategies to safekeep our goal (deficit). Prelogging/meal planning,…
  • When I eat dinner at home it's roughly 400-500 calories. When eating at someone else's home, especially for a special occasion, I assume it will be at least twice that amount and plan accordingly. That may mean skipping breakfast that day or putting in a longer workout. I also know that some friends or family tend to order…
  • If it isn't yours to throw out, then technically it's not yours to eat either. Maybe look at it as guest food only.
  • OP I remember college days and can see how everything revolves around eating and drinking. I agree with being proactive. Before she even suggests something you can suggest your own activity. Are you a senior ? Come up with goofy things like a scavenger hunt or you have to go to each building and take a picture. Silly stuff…
  • Side note: I am totally with you. At 4'11 and close to goal I simply don't have a lot of wiggle room. I will make room for somethings I really want, but not something my friend wants!! Plus, Op isn't focusing on just weight loss. She is trying to eat healthier and likes how much better it makes her feel. Perhaps brownies…
  • Maybe this is the answer: on a "normal" day I budget about 500 calories for dinner. That includes dessert if I want it. Go to a holiday dinner and its very hard to eat small enough portions to stick to my budget (because everything served is calorie rich). So I am forced to change my strategy. I'm already squeezing in as…
  • Some people look at their overall weekly calories, rather than daily. It may work well for you if you don't mind eating a little less some days.
  • Your husband says you are spoiling the holidays by eating a salad tonight? Today isn't a holiday, correct? His attitude that it should be a nonstop gorge fest is obviously not your view. And that's ok. Try to talk less about it. Also, I've picked up that my "naturally" thinner friends would say "oh man I'm still stuffed…
  • Plan plan plan. Once a week I plan all our dinners and then shop for those ingredients. So if my calendar says tonight is chicken, then that's what I make. I also prelog the whole day's meals and snacks ahead of time. Breakfast and lunch tend to be the same or similar meals most days any way. Sure, sometimes I prelog a…
  • Haha @ leap year!!
  • Did you eat about a 1000 calories surplus every day for 2 weeks? That seems almost impossible to gain 4 lbs in less than 2 weeks. More likely you are bloated and it's mostly water weight. Try to get back on track and weigh yourself again in a few days.
  • Thank you
  • How many total steps do you take? I get most of it done in the morning doing chores. 10k isn't too hard for me but I probably should aim for a few thousand more. Might require more walking during her nap time. Do you walk on a treadmill at nap ones or just around the house? I'll sometimes pace or March while I'm watching…
  • I think the steps are slow since it's not intentional walking? I'm pretty sure I burn way more calories when I go outside or in the treadmill for a walk. But the pacing around the house must be a lot slower? I'm also close to goal so that might be part of it.
  • Yes, of course I am balancing out to about maintenance. I am perfectly aware of that aspect. The last few weeks have been better. I lost weight after that Long stall. I probably won't see a loss this week.
  • Thank you for your thoughtful responses. To answer a lot of questions - I am 4'11 I am not looking for suggestions for different types of intense workouts. My running is the intense burn. But with a toddler at home, there are some days where our schedule doesn't allow me to run or do a strenuous workout. That's why I count…
  • I think you need to clarify how much weight you gained in the past two weeks. You would have to have eaten A LOT to gain significant amounts in just two weeks. Which is why I assume it's water retention.
  • I know which events are going to be high calorie ahead of time based on history: the friend's party will probably have pizza and no veggies. Meeting friends at a restaurant will mean higher calorie meals and alcohol. I know this and i budget it. That often means on a Saturday I'll wait and have a really late but light…
  • Thank you for the running encouragement all!
  • Thank you Yesterday I ate to about maintenance but there are many weeks that I eat more than that once or twice a week, enough to keep me at maintenance.
  • Good stuff! It may also encourage you to up your exercise a little bit on days you want to indulge.
  • Where would I find the step tracker on my phone? I could see if that works for walking in place. I also remembered today that I have a heart rate monitor watch which tracks calories. I had only used it before for hr. Tried it today and assumed the calorie count would be way off but was surprised to see that it was similar…
  • Thank you. That makes sense. I don't keep my phone in my pocket plus I am Often active but not taking steps so I want to explore options for measuring non-strides.
