Trap bar deadlifts are generally safer than straight bar for beginners.

I am after a monitor that responds well to changes in heart rate, which is why I am avoiding the wrist versions. I want to monitor my heart rate while pushing myself hiking so I slow down when I hit 100%.

In the beginning I ate them back. Now I try not to eat much of them back at all. We'll see if it helps, I seem to be stalling a bit.

Depends on the HRM doesn't it? I thought the chest probe models were accurate...

To put the shoe on the other foot, my bride reassures me constantly that I am still handsome despite gaining 80 lbs (now back to 65) since our wedding. I haven't believed her for years (but still like to hear it), but still beat her up about not listening to my compliments on how she looks. If could burn all the magazines…

Anyone else use the Withing scale to track bodyfat %? I can change my % to a lower amount just by drinking a quart of water. Which makes sense, so I track it in the morning. However, I am consistently hovering around 30% and that feels SO discouraging. I have 35 more lbs to lose (and am do far about a third of the way to…

My bride has the same issue. No matter how much I tell her it looks fine and reminds me of the 5 kids she gave me, it still bothers her. Even though her BMI is athletic and her body fat is under 18% and she has good muscle tone, it still bothers her. I hate what our culture does for body image issues...

Professionalhobbyist you are an inspiration. That and your approach is also encouraging. CSARdiver I used to live on venison! Then I left Montana and got a white collar, hour intensive job. Bye bye hunting time... Anyway, a lot of sensible responses, including you Annie_01 :)

DavPul, I guess I assume I am lactose intolerant. BUT I am willing to try an isolate powder, just to get away from scarfing down so. much. meat. Your detailed intake looks promising (and reasonable). I think I will try something like that.

Total weight. If I go off LBM then at .8 g/lb I could cut down to 124 grams from 176 which is a LOT more doable for me. And cheaper :p

Dillschnick celiac sprue is hereditary. Read the book by Dr Green recommended by another poster for a better understanding. God be with you as you figure this out. It's a lot easier now than it was 17 years ago when we started. There was nothing in the grocery store except gross EnerG rice bread. Blech... Yes, get your…

Miriamwithcats I am with you on that. Pastries and baked goods do not tempt me either, I just see poison.

Canadjineh I concur. Screw the elimination diet, just get tested. Or just decide to cut it out and keep it out. Going back on is murder if you are intolerant. On another note, my biopsy results came back negative in the small bowel, meaning I am eating a compliant GF diet (yay!). On the other hand, my esophagus biopsy…

Wow Jill. I glanced at your diary and you are very self disciplined! Congratulations on your progress to date!

I agree on the scale. I used to think I could estimate portion size. HA! was I ever wrong. Measuring cups and spoons are your friend as well. 3rd times a charm!

I know the feeling of hating to look in the mirror because I see someone disgusting to look at. I have felt that way for years now. It has a lot to do with how I used to look and how far I have fallen off. My wife tried to tell me for years that she thought I was still handsome, but I just didn't/ couldn't/ wouldn't…

I have a rare opportunity to see how compliant I have been: because of increasing non-cardiac chest pain, I had an EGD yesterday. They even biopsied the esophagus and the small bowel. Everything was normal in appearance, so the biopsy results are something I am nervously anticipating. If those come back normal, then I will…

Zedeff I agree with the distinction. Give me precise and I can figure out how to adjust the number to an accurate one. I generally agree that weight fluctuates but my scale would literally show me losing 7 lbs overnight. Not a good trending tool.....

I am interested as well. I would spend up to $200 for a precise home weight scale. I searched for "accurate scale" on these forums and found few posts with actual recommendations. Hoping someone with experience in the industry will chime in.

I actually walked around the hospital to different clinics and weighed myself on the various scales. Less than a pound variance! Then I drove straight home and my home scale was 4-5 lbs heavier. I agree a scale is a trending tool, but I still want an accurate one. I would even pay a calibration service to visit…

Risking cross contamination while going out to eat is as far as I go. I used to never even risk that, but now my work involves a fair amount of vendor wining and dining and out of town training so it gets old eating salad and fruit when they're trying to buy you something more substantive. I never cheat (as in eating…

Stupid me. It was just a matter of hitting the plus key from the diary page! Thanks

How did you do it?
