I have just been diagnosed with EoE and so have to cut out dairy, eggs, gluten, soy, tree nuts, and shellfish. So I am with you fit goat. And then some...

No I haven't. I should also mention that I am a cheapskate and so when I cruise the protein powder aisle at Whole Foods I dismiss the higher priced versions out of hand (which of course includes the vegan versions), but that may be pennywise and pound foolish (hey! I made a pun). The pea protein was cheap but unflavored so…

Wow. Canadjineh you rock! Very helpful articles! Thanks

I would be very happy to be able to eat casein. That way I could stop using the awful tasting rice protein powder in my shakes and use casein powder.

Chocciechip I don't think your doctor's treatment protocol is very sensible. I feel for you.
-
Right. I think I do them because sometimes it's the lowest calorie way to get over my protein grams for the day.

My experimentation with low-er carbs is still in its infancy. Week 1 I lost close to 5 lbs. 2-1/2 weeks since I have lost .2 lbs. Adaptation? Not sure. I allowed myself to run over on fat and protein carbs, so for the last 3 days I have tried to eat not much more than my caloric limit. We'll see what happens. Complicating…

Here's my quandry. I have visible midsection fat, and I am trying to lose it. I am not even halfway to my goal weight. Since I started eating enough protein to grow stronger (without changing overall calories), the weight loss stopped in its tracks. I am wondering if I need to give up strength increases until I hit my goal…

Could you expand on that a bit? Why would it not be possible to increase muscle mass (mass in the true sense as in grams muscle) while in a deficit? Can't the body use stored fat to make up the deficit rather than the protein you are eating?
-
I was doing great with weight loss while doing strength training until I hit a big time plateau (well, big to me. No weight loss the last two weeks). This coincided with me changing over to eating the right amount of protein to gain muscle mass and cutting back on carbs a bit. Before that I was losing 2.8 lbs a week. Now I…

Peanut butter is evil. And addicting

At 245 I wore a size 40. At 216 I wear a size 36 (and they are a bit loose even fresh out of the dryer). My final goal is 183. I cannot bring myself to say it out loud, but maybe I will be down to a size 32!

When, after 51 years of daily bananas and OJ, you quit cold turkey. As I am a type 1 diabetic, I now only eat them when I get hypoglycemic. The one bad thing about that is my potassium intake is now chronically low...

Funny, so far no one asks except those who are trying to lose weight with me

I am a scientist and am therefore addicted to the data my scale provides. I weigh just before bed and just after I get up. I don't care for the bad news it gives, but I still want the data. Which I sm missing right now as I am out of town for 2 weeks. Staying with the diet and exercise, so we'll see if I get a pleasant…

Jayce, your health is pretty high on the priority list. Some resenting that is acting like a real narcissist. Sounds like conflict resolution issues. Not a good prediction for relational longevity.

21 lbs in 50 days. I think that is a bit too fast, so I may boost my calorie intake a bit. I am exercising my hiney off, something I have not done faithfully for 22 years. ..so maybe my TDEE is waaaaaay off

I have not learned much, other than 10 days of low-er carbs and high-er protein have dropped 6+ lbs off me. I am still averaging about 120 carb grams daily (my goal is 100), but some of that is fiber. I am upping my protein dose but it is really hard to choke down that much protein (170 grams/ day). REALLY hard. Last night…

Switching to lower carbs than before has resulted in me FINALLY getting under 30% body fat. I am pleased with the progress so I am going to try and stay around 100 grams carbs

Always save room for a G&T or a V&T! Although lately to keep carbs lower I have switched to shots of Pendleton

Interesting results from week 1 of more protein, lower carbs: 5 lb weight loss. And yes, I am slamming the water. 5 lbs is too much I know, so I am reassessing my calorie intake. But the results so far are interesting. I do have more energy for cardio, but it's early in the process.

Ok, changed my diary settings so people can see it. As far as the dehydrating goes, it's possible but I am usually all over the water consumption. ..

3 days lifting and 30 min yoga 6 days a week is a sound plan of attack.

Canadjineh you're probably right about trying organic dairy and eggs..

So my obesity contributes to the ozone hole? Great....

Thanks for the feedback folks. I like the passion in a number of these posts. Deficit deficit deficit.....

Sorry, guess I should have mentioned I also do cardio (about 1600 calories worth per week minimum, sometimes FAR more from hiking) and that I do eat a calorie deficit for the most part (this last weekend was bad, visited my daughters and PIGGED out). I sometimes eat carbs after cardio, sometimes not. At .25g/ lb target…

As to the original post, the Meineke discount muffler commercial comes to mind. "We'll make it fit."

Plus sign on diary upper right. Select cardio, then add new exercise, input a title, minutes, and calories burned. Then hit the check mark to accept. Btw, that is the best composed profile pic I have seen to date. Great sense of humor...

I am a scientist and understand what educated trainers mean when they say muscle weighs > fat. The implication is by volume. I can appreciate precision but generally don't get too upset when people don't speak that way. In a published paper or magazine article, on the other hand, the precision matters. ..
