Actually, it cleared up a lot since I hit my maintenance goal. I think the people who mentioned about hormones being stored in fat were probably correct. Once I stopped losing fat, my skin finally calmed down. Now I'm back to the usual 2-3 TOM spots and not much more. Hang in there!

Ditto. Any lower than 150-155 and I start to get issues with my feminine health, no matter what BMI says my healthy range should be.

This has always been the struggle for me. I can buckle down for 6-8 months and lose the weight to get to my goal, but I inevitably fall down on maintaining and end up back where I started. I have gone through this cycle 4 times in my adult life. This time, I decided try treating the maintenance phase like the weight loss…

Great information! Thank you!!

I'm not so concerned about the accuracy of the scale in terms of absolute values. As long as it's off by the same amount every time that's fine. I'm just using it for meauring progress. I'm just curious whether anyone has direct experience comparing it to a professional method of measurement.

Think you might have that backwards. Chinese people buy Japanese rice cookers like hot cakes. https://blogs.wsj.com/japanrealtime/2014/12/09/japanese-rice-cookers-a-hot-commodity-among-chinese/

Personally, my rice cooker is one of my most important kitchen appliances. I generally don't go in for single-purpose devices, but the difference between a good rice cooker and a bad rice cooker is a lot of crunchy rice in the garbage. Or broken rice cookers in the garbage. Cheap ones tend to break easily, as has already…

I think I was about 20lbs down the first time someone (who didn't know I was trying to lose) mentioned it. I found that people generally noticed after I was away for a while, for example on a business trip or vacation. When I came back, somehow seeing me jarred them into realizing I didn't fit their mental image of the…

Honestly, this sounds less like self-control and more like an eating disorder to me. It's not uncommon for people severely restricting their own food to become obsessed with cooking and feeding others the food they don't eat. Voice of experience here. Either way, her issues are not your worry. Good luck finding your own…

Thanks for clarifying. I did some looking into the accuracy of the test before I went and paid for it, and it seemed to check out, but I'm still taking it slow working up to maintenance calories. I have been adding 100 cals every 2 weeks and weighing regularly. So far I'm still losing weight, just more slowly. I'm still…

I was also having problems settling on what my TDEE was and therefore what my maintenance calories should be, since different formulas give you different numbers and some say your BMR can be affected by dieting (the dreaded "starvation mode" phenomenon). So I finally broke down and got mine tested at a nutritionist's…

I also travel a lot for work, and I have to say that there is unfortunately no magic secret answer that I have found. It's tough, especially when you are expected to attend business lunches or dinners, and double especially when those dinners involve alcohol. My strategy is a combination of three things: (1) stashing…

Thanks for the great replies! I guess the common thread I see is that everyone has to find something that works for them and that they can maintain consistently over a long time. Wish I had somehow figured this out sooner instead of berating myself for my failures of willpower when I inevitably gave up on my overly…

So this will probably sound a little mean, but I accept the treats... and then throw them away. I always admire what the baker has made and thank them, or take my slice of the birthday cake or whatever, but afterward I take it to my desk, wrap it in a napkin, squish it up in my hand, and throw it in the garbage. No…

My biggest thing was really recognizing that hunger is not an emergency. If you ignore it, it goes away and you feel fine. I stopped snacking between meals and found it really easy to stick to my calorie goals. Dropped about 50lbs since January. Ignoring hunger was helped hugely by stocking my work desk with teas (black,…

Thanks! I haven't tried tea tree oil before. Sounds like it's worth a shot!

Thanks! I've heard that turmeric has all kind of benefits for our bodies, so I'll check it out!

That's a really interesting idea! I hadn't considered it, since I'm not really eating more dairy than I was before, but now with reduced calories I guess it makes up a larger share of total calories. I'll experiment with excluding it from my diet and see if that helps. Thanks!

This is something I did not know. I have had issues with low blood pressure in the past, so I should definitely take that into consideration. Thanks!

Thanks for the replies. So, I've read differing opinions on whether I should be eating back exercise calories. I decided not to, as with exercise I am burning about 2400 calories a day, and eating about 1000 less than that. I essentially gave up on what people would consider 'bad' carbs like sweets and white bread and…
