Update: lunch was amazing. I ordered the lowest calorie salad on the menu 600 calories for a shrimp cilantro lime salad..got my protein and veggies in, skipped the bread basket, and best of all the salad was DELICIOUS. I ate 3/4 of it, stopping when I got full. I never, ever would have ordered it before I started trying to…

You sound just like me. Even at a low, healthy weight my arms are chunky and don't look good in sleeveless tops. Genetics... If your weight is healthy and you feel good otherwise, I say just own it. 40 pounds in 5 months is a pretty quick loss also, it could be that your arms will continue to change as you keep up the…

Thanks everyone! I will hit the gym in the AM. Also have plans to go to the mall after lunch, so lots of walking. Wish I could bring my food scale to lunch & dinner though :) I'll know I've really got this down when I don't experience anxiety over a simple meal out.

Totally doable. I lost 10 pounds in the last 19 days by sticking to 1,200 calories a day (most of that coming from protein & fat, keep it low carb...no more than 100g of carbs a day feels about right for me). FYI, I am 5'3 and started at 177.5 on 2/1, weighed 167.5 yesterday 2/18. Even if you don't work out, you should…

Last time I lost weight a few years ago, I went in head first! (gained it all back :( ) This time I dipped my toe. Week one I just promised myself I would wear my fitbit and be aware of how much I was moving. Nothing more.... Just to get into that mental state of actually giving a damn about my health. Week 2 I promised…

You look good at your weight. I'm the same height as you, and my goal weight is 140. I've been lower, but it was never something I could maintain. That is the key, you don't want to live your life perpetually trying to lose weight. Maintaining is hard enough! Honestly if I had to guess your weight from your picture/height,…

I would echoe many of the triggers above. I had a binge last night actually, triggered by a high stress day at work (it didn't help that I was so incredibly busy/stressed that I barely ate all day). By the time I got home, I was hungry and exhausted. The idea of making chicken breast & veggies was just not going to make me…

Exercise can be a great way to increase a calorie deficit. But that's a completely different thing that asking how much exercise is "enough" for weight loss. 0 minutes is enough for weight loss if one is in a calorie deficit.[/quote] Yes agree! I fully realize that I can lose weight by managing my diet alone, without…

While I love the idea of disassociating exercise from weight loss, I still have to disagree somewhat. If I push myself to do 30 minutes of cardio each day, doesn't that increase my calorie defecit for the day? As long as you are not eating back those exercise calories, it can absolutely lead to more weight loss. Simple…

I weigh every morning before eating/drinking and log that weight in Libra (same things as Trend Weight, or any app that trends your losses. I consider my "real weight" Monday morning, which I log into MFP. So even if I'm up a little from the day before, as long as my Monday to Monday weights show a loss, I am happy!

I just started taking Metamucil a week ago, and upped my dose from 1 tsp twice a day to 2 tsp twice a day (the recommended dose is 2 tsp 3 times a day). Based on what you describe, it doesn't sound like you are taking too much. How many times a day does the pacakge recommend? Since you've researched the topic of fiber…

I'm 5'3 and my goal is 140. That's the top of the BMI healthy range for me. Not skinny, but something I can actually maintain. I've been that weight before, and I'm comfortable size 8 in any store. Nothing wrong with a size 8!

Hi, I'm a former WW member. I lost weight with WW 3 years ago, and the only thing I really liked was that accountability of weighing in at the meetings once a week, and the accountability of tracking everything I ate. The actual meetings were useless. I didn't like the emphasis on non-fat dairy, processed sugary/high carb…

I don't know if your daily calories will allow for it, but for me personally a "snack" doesn't do ANYTHING unless its got at least 200-300 cals. I used to try eating an apple as a snack...ha! Did not help my hunger. So I usually eat 1/4 cup almonds (170 cals) plus one oz of full fat cheese (100 cals) which fills me up…

Thank you! Agree this is good insight. I've never tried the stationary bike, and I like the sounds of low impact/low exertion to start. That sounds very doable!

I just finished week 1. I use the treadmill. For other treadmill users, what pace are you running/walking? I'm short and out of shape, using 5.1 for my jogging and 3.5 for walking. Curious what others do!
-
Thanks! This is what I was thinking - I want to develop my running and get better, and I really am a beginner. Running the one minute intervals is a challenge for me at this point! My concern is that every other piece of cardio equipment at the gyms is also primarily working my legs....I should probably work in 2 days of…

Wouldn't MFP automatically adjust calorie requirements based on my new weight? I didn't even think of that. I have it set now for 1 pound loss per week, which gives me 1,300 cals per day. I am diligent about weighing food and if I can't weigh something, I will overestimate. I rely on pre-packaged frozen meals for lunch…

Definitely don't drop below 1,200 - I tried this, and all it did was make me feel terrible, with very little weight loss to show for it, and you can't keep it up for long. Instead I suggest playing with your macros - where you are getting the calories from. I have had good results recently with increasing my fat & protein,…

Personally I find protein shakes very helpful in hitting my protein macro and managing hunger at night. After dinner I always feel the need for something...more...something sweet. I get hungry again around 8pm. Premier Protein - the only shake I drink. It has 30g of protein (!) and only 5 carbs, 160 calories, very little…

Good point, yes my legs do ache. I will drink a lot of water and take it easy on the exercise front today. I haven't had an "off day" in over a week - been pushing myself to get over 15,000 steps a day. Maybe a break will let my body do what it needs to do.
-
That I'm sure must be food weight still in your body plus water retention from extra sodium. I would rather be in your shoes! :) I'm sure after a few "good" days you will be showing a loss. I'm just so confused that I could show a gain after having a great day in terms of calories in vs calories out.
-
Thanks! I will read through that.

Part of the reason I'm starting with 4:3 instead of 5:2 is I want to lose faster. Here is how I think of it: 3 days a week I eat 500 cals 4 days a week I eat 1,800 cals Total weekly cals: 8,700 If you divide 8,700 by seven days in a week, thats roughly 1,200 cals a day. If I eat 1,200 cals a day, I do lose weight (about…

Probably in your head. Personally speaking, when I have lost weight in the past I don't feel any smaller, in fact I notice problem areas even MORE. Its really hard to get your mind to see the weight loss. Do your clothes feel any different?
-
Yes, similar experience here. I'm 16 pounds down and feel worse than ever about my body and MORE uncomfortable than before. I know its 100% mental. Our minds are powerful things, and somehow we don't fully realize how big we look, or how uncomfortable we feel. Once we shift into weight loss mindset, I think it let's us see…

I have been losing 2 pounds a week consistently by eating 1,200 a day. I've lost 16 pounds so far with 33 to go. I'm considering eating a little more becuase i'm always hungry (I don't eat back exercise calories)
-
Thanks all. Will try setting weight loss goal to 1 pound and see how that feels for a week or two. I find myself looking at thin women and wondering "are you hungry ALL of the time???" Haha I might just start asking them.
-
Yes, this. I eat 1200 cals, weighing and measuring everything and have lost 2 pounds a week as MFP is set to. . Do you eat out a lot? It's much harder to guesstimate those calories. If you were consuming 1200 cals a day I can't imagine not losing weight, even if you were sedentary (unless there was a medical issue).
