  • Everyone has problem areas. Will 18 lbs make a difference? Maybe, maybe not. Only time will tell. You might always have love handles, you might always have a bit of a stomach, you might not. Weight training and core strengthening will help. A lot settles in your stomach: stress, caffeine, alcohol, carbs, salt, sugar etc.…
  • I love protein powder - i bake with it, add it to my overnight oats, use it in shakes. there are so many flavour options. i like myprotein.com's whey protein. great flavours - 100 calories for 19 grams of protein.
  • Take it day by day and focus on your new habits - not on motivation. Worry about next week, next week. Focus on the present. Logging calories is a habit now. It's part of my routine - just like brushing my teeth. I don't even think about it anymore. I still log everything. I focus on weekly targets instead of daily so if i…
  • I lost 145 pounds and felt weirder about my body at first than i did before i lost weight (i've been maintaining for over three years now and feel much better about my body). When i pictured my "goal weight body" it didn't include loose skin, a flat *kitten*, and small boobs. I pictured the body of a woman who'd never been…
  • Nope. I started baking and have dessert every night now. I also eat bigger portions. I had a hard time figuring out my exact maintenance calories. I lost seven more pounds trying to get it right.
  • Two things: Good running shoes. I lost weight walking - i went through a pair of shoes every 10-12 weeks. Never underestimate the value of good shoes. Kitchen scale. Twas a sad, sad day when i learned what a tbsp of peanut butter really looked like
  • I'm 5'6", was 40 when i started my weight loss journey (have been maintaining a 145 pound loss for three years) and i worked out four days per week and walked my dog twice a day and i was eating 1,200-1,300 calories per day. i lost an average of 3 pounds per week. if you feel fine eating 1,200 - there's no reason to change…
  • i thought this was a great article and outlines recommendations: https://www.aworkoutroutine.com/how-much-protein/ the short version: "If you’re trying to lose fat, build muscle, maintain muscle or have any similar goal that would be helped by maximizing the benefits we covered earlier, then 0.8 – 1.3g of protein per pound…

  • it's really up to you - MFP and exercise machines overestimate, so if you choose to eat them back (because you're hungry) stick with eating no more than 50%. if you're not hungry, just add them to your deficit
  • on a conference call
  • When i need a definitive source, i turn to this book
  • Your metabolism likely isn't "messed up" - that's a myth. https://www.muscleforlife.com/metabolic-damage/
  • if the freestyle program has you counting points - what's the difference? points or calories, counting is counting. I also think it's misleading - there are no "free foods" everything has calories - too much kale or too much chocolate, too much is too much
  • It happens - just like it does with anything else. Do you always want to go to work? nah, but you do. You're not always going to be in the zone, but you do it anyway.
  • people get fat because they eat too many calories - the source of the calories is irrelevant - too many is too many. you're assuming a lot about the people you see on treadmills. you don't know them, you don't know their life - stop thinking that you do why would we be angry? i lost 143 pounds by eating fewer overall…
  • stop procrastinating
  • I've always felt that the time spent losing weight is also time learning new habits and acclimating to your new lifestyle. it's not just about losing weight, it's about living your life while you're losing weight. don't do anything to lose weight that you're not willing to do forever.
  • Her maintenance calories would be >2,000 if she was moderately active. She will be closer to 1,600 at sedentary
  • Welcome and good luck. You're in good company here. I downloaded MFP three years and 143 pounds ago and I couldn't be happier. Stick with it. Be kind to yourself. Reach out for support.

  • At the end of the day calories are all that matter. Yes, some bodies are more efficient. Some foods may or may not metabolize faster but the difference is negligible. Calorie counting isn't perfect - but it's the best we've got and it works.
  • i love the sworkit pro app
  • am i reading that right 5 x 300 calorie meals and 2 x (average) 150 calorie snacks = 1800 calories per day? what are your stats? 1800 might be too much, might not be, don't know without knowing your age, height, and current weight. also, if you've "cheated a few times" and you're already at a small deficit, you're not…
  • This puppy is the reason I lost weight. When we got her she had so much more energy than expected. One day my husband suggested that we might not be the right people for her because we weren't active enough. I decided to become the right person for her - we walked twice a day, every day. It was all for her but I started…
  • Hydrate and start slower. ease into it - do what you can. rome wasn't built in day
  • I hate to be a debbie downer but what are you going to do differently when you meet your goal? you've embarked on a crash diet - a temporary plan that, unless you change your lifestyle, will lead to temporary results. you made a drastic change in your life, but have you made a sustainable change? are you going to stick to…
  • That's like saying if you're wearing a seatbelt you don't need to worry about speeding. I've met a lot of fat vegans. If you're willing to track - track.
