  • I let my Apple Watch sync my workouts to MFP and give me credit for the calorie burn, but I try to only eat about half of them back if possible.
  • We didn't get invited to anything for the Super Bowl for once this year, so I did the exercise bike instead of watching the game and eating wings. (Very un-American!)
  • Log it, move on, and stay away from the scale for a week or two. You'll be fine. When you're trying to lose weight, you have to have a short memory as far as failures.
  • There were points every step of the way for me where the calorie limit I had set just simply didn't feel good anymore. When I started, I was at 1500 calories a day, and that felt totally fine to me. I would be a little hungry at bedtime, but not "hangry". After I dropped the first 30 or 35 lbs, 1500 calories a day started…
  • I would not say it was cheap. I think we paid a little under $600 for it on Amazon. However, I am not afraid to pay a little more money for quality. I will NOT skimp on home gym equipment only to have it fall apart in a year or two. The AD-6 has been reviewed as one of the best consumer grade stationary bikes out there.…
  • I just recently purchased an Airdyne model AD-6, and I absolutely love it BECAUSE it works the upper body too. Because of three very sensitive degenerative discs in my back, I have to be really careful about strength training with weights, so I stick to biking and walking just to get some cardio into my routine. What I did…
  • Haha--what I was getting at is that there are a lot of things that just aren't fun anymore as I get older. Sledding and riding my bike around the neighborhood are two of the big things I've found to still be SO MUCH FUN. Even though they both hurt my butt sometimes.
  • I blush and say "thank you" and leave it at that. I learned awhile back that if I say anything past that, I start getting unsolicited advice. Like I always used to say things such as, "Thanks! I still have a ways to go, but I'll get there eventually!" All that comment does is invite the other person to give you advice on…
  • My mini goals have always getting down to the next set of 10 lbs. So for example, if I was 225, I would look forward to to the day when I would be 219. Right now I'm at an even 180, and my goal weight is 175. I have one more "9" to be excited about and then soon after I will begin the hard work of maintenance.
  • Just to add another little wrinkle to this-- Both my rheumatologist and my primary care doctor are both SO HAPPY that I've lost so much weight and gotten healthy, but now they're both warning me that as I get older, I will begin to lose muscle mass. The weight loss does not exactly help this situation. They are both…
  • My Fage Greek yogurt containers always say "approximately" 4 total servings. I weigh everything, and it's usually more like 4.35 servings. That's actually a lot of extra calories in the long run. I trust no box, container, or measuring cup.
  • I used to try exercising in the morning and I just can't. I hate every second of it. I work from home so I usually skip the morning shower, work out on my lunch break, and then shower after that.
  • My favorite meal for the last several months has been 2 servings of 0% Fage, a serving of granola, and a tablespoon of honey. Easy to weigh out on the food scale, super filling, and super delicious.
  • It helps you lose weight if you are not eating back triple the amount of calories that you burned. In other words, it's not that it doesn't help you lose weight. It's really that a lot of people just don't understand how calories work.
  • I am definitely the same way--pretty introverted and prefer to do things at home unless it's just my wife and me or sometimes our families. I get kind of squirmy at big social events too. But on this trip it was totally different, and it has been totally different at other events throughout the year too. I'm just more…
  • You know--I should have added that into things I learned, because I do think you're correct. I've already dropped a pound that I gained in Florida, and that shouldn't be happening so quickly at 1900 calories a day. We definitely ate a lot of sodium laden food while there and I felt like a beluga whale by the time we got…
  • For the record, the meal plan was really nice to have, and the Disney app was really nice for keeping track of all of our dinner reservations and Fast Passes. And I highly recommend the hibachi grill place at Epcot. The food there was absolutely delicious.
  • Well, for the record, during the two days of Thanksgiving gatherings I attended last week, just saying "thanks" totally worked. I honestly got ZERO suggestions. Just lots of complements and "how did you do it?". I never said whether I'm done losing or not. I never said if I'm happy with where I am now or not. I just said…
  • My wife and I were leaving a party a few weeks ago and the host came up to her while we were putting our coats on and said, "There are a bunch of people in the kitchen gossiping about how you must have divorced your husband and gotten remarried already since they last saw you." That was the biggest complement I think I've…
  • I used to always say, "Yeah, I'm fat, but I can lose weight whenever I want. It's not like I smoke or drink a lot of booze." I looked at it as a cosmetic problem rather than a health problem. Despite the doctor telling me my blood pressure was high and that I had fatty liver. Despite the fact that my rheumatologist told me…
  • My sister in law made this thing that was basically a huge block of brie cheese wrapped in some kind of dough with a bunch of other stuff all over it. As I was reaching for my second piece of it, I remember thinking, "Oh my god, I've now officially blown it and I can't stop myself."
  • Thanks!! I'm bookmarking this reply for sure! I have been to both Disney parks, but not while trying to maintain/lose weight, so this will be an adventure for sure.
  • Hahahahahahahaha--I lost my nana in 7th grade unfortunately, but I still have my aunts carrying on her tradition, and they love trying to feed me!
  • Had to revive this thread--went to a wedding Saturday and saw a lot of family that I hadn't seen in a year or so. When they complemented me on my weight/appearance, instead of blushing and trying to explain it away, I just said "Thank you". I didn't get one piece of advice from one person all night. Not even the skinny…
  • Several things: 1. I'm always cold. 2. I'm always getting advice I never asked for and don't need. 3. My new lifestyle and weight make people VERY uncomfortable. I get judged, criticized, and called names by people I never expected would react that way. 4. A simple free app made it so easy. I can't believe I didn't pay a…
  • I had mine open for a couple of days and got super sick of peoples' advice so I closed it again. People on MFP are usually super helpful and supportive, but they can also be know it alls.
  • We're not as jolly anymore without the Santa belly.
  • In my relatively short experience with all this, it's not specifically what I'm eating that's made me lose weight, it's the amount of what I'm eating. I've not cut out carbs, sugar, dairy, or anything else. I use the food scale every single day for every meal, and log everything that goes in my mouth. That has worked…
  • Love all the comments here. Great stuff. Yes, I admit it. There are some parts of my family that easily annoy me. That is something I need to work on. I also need to just leave it at "thanks". When I say things like "I have more to go", I think it's just my way of saying, "Let's not start celebrating until I'm done." I…
  • My wife and I were at a Halloween party over the weekend and there were a lot of people there that we hadn't seen in a year or two. The host of the party came up to me as we were leaving and told me everyone was in the kitchen asking her if my wife dumped me and got remarried. She had to tell them all I was actually the…
