  • I sleep better, when I have a small snack right before sleeping. I am more likely to over eat if I try to go to sleep hungry. When I fail to sleep, I will get up and eat way more than I would have snacked on earlier. When I am over tired, I have less will power.
  • I had never heard of this until this week. When I have over done things, I have had injuries but nothing this serious. I am so glad you are doing better and are home. Another cautionary tale, thanks for sharing.
  • The same way, I handle vacation and Thanksgiving. I don't have high expectations for weight loss, I plan to eat at maintenance. If that means eating smaller portions, or doing more cardio, or saving up calories from prior days to eat more for special parties. One day isn't going to derail my weight, but what I can not do…
  • I think it is a personal choice. I have logged only water, when I was trying to drink more of it as opposed to other things this summer. I use the pee chart to gauge hydration. MFP is a tool, use it how it best helps you.
  • I love this chart. Loved it when it was created and love it now. I have copied and pasted it many times. If it ain't broke don't fix it!
  • I agree with @prettysoul1908, to get into that dress, it is inches not pounds that matter the most. Lift heavy things, strengthen your core, and firm up your curves. In order to lose pounds, you have to eat at a deficit and as many others have said, if you are not accurately tracking your calories in and out, you have no…
  • When I went to a physical therapist for help with upper back pain, she prescribed clam shells then added resistance band exercise and then I graduated to this machine. Because I was over working certain muscles and under using my hips, she specifically wanted me to isolate and target certain muscles. This was one of…
  • I really enjoy cardio, so I do 6 days a week, I strength train 3 days a week and have one total rest day. I agree your approach is balanced.
  • I never count my strength training, 60 minutes 3X a week. I think 400 calories is vastly overestimated.
  • You are correct about where absorption occurs, but unless you are expectorating all of your saliva, calories are being swallowed as you chew gum, even if you do not swallow the portion that remains solid, you will ingest some calories for each stick. OP try limiting yourself to one piece per a given time period, or use it…
  • No, started CPAP in 2014. My Doctor did mention weight loss an added positive benefit of improved sleep. Sleep is important for health, but I continued eat more than I burned, until March 2015.
  • @rabbitjb, you are the one, whose posts motivated me to start with strength/weight training. I didn't know I would find it so rewarding. I do 3 hours a week and they are the fastest hours. Nothing better than feeling strong. I loved my aerobic type workouts but spurned lifting heavy things for enjoyment, until this year.…
  • In addition as a male, you should not go under 1500 total calories a day. 120 grams of protein should be fine you could go a bit higher if it helps you to feel less hungry. With only 11 pounds to go, you might want to consider recomp. Either way consider adding or increasing weight/strength training, I think you will be…
  • When I had lost 35 lbs, the most lost in inches from any specific body measurement was 4 inches and the least was 2 inches. Because fat comes off of different places at different rates, perhaps a more attainable goal would be to lose an average of 3 inches from all your measurements added together. To insure a maximum of…
  • At 5 feet and weighing around 100 lbs you are at lower edge of healthy. I suspect your actual body fat percentage may be 20% or lower. Eat 1500-2000 calories, limit your aerobic training to 30 minutes a day, and continue with moderate strength training. If you fail to gain weight add more calories until your weight ranges…
  • A 1200 to 1300 calorie deficit is too aggressive for what you can lose in a healthy manner. When you are that aggressive you run the risk of losing lean body mass. A 1000 calorie a day deficit would be the maximum and as you lose additional weight that maximum amount will decrease as well. What can be confusing with Fitbit…
  • The cardio is for extra calorie burn, the strength training is for retaining muscle. Since the program recommends HIIT with cardio and strength components.
  • When they run out of new gimmicks, they recycle the old stuff. There is a new fool waiting to part with his money born every minute.
  • Love this stuff, have you tried the caramel apple? I wonder if it is as good as it looks. I use a little sweet leaf stevia to mine.

  • Splenda will not cause you to gain weight. For some it can increase appetite, but if that is not bothersome for you, you can ingest it at any time. Also for weight loss, it doesn't matter when you consume beverages or food, it only matters if you consume fewer calories than you burn.

  • OP, I love your new hobbies, strange how we have such similar interests. Most of my friends know I had a health issue and they assume correctly that my diet restrictions are due to that issue. That diet has little to do with counting calories, I could easily gain weight and stick to my diet. Rumor has it that I am out…
  • The difference is that a package may have nutritional information for a 4 ounce chicken breast. However not a single chicken breast weighs exactly 113 grams. If it actually weighs 147 grams and you record it using the package information, you will be consuming 30% more calories. Now imagine doing that with everything you…
  • It looks like you would be eating at a calorie deficit and if you do that you will lose weight. It suggests doing interval training at the gym, strength training 30 mins and 30 mins cardio per day. That would give you some extra calories used while retaining muscle. But this:
  • I pre-log a bed time snack. I can skip breakfast but have a difficult going to sleep hungry. I have also counted calories from dinner to lunch the next day instead of breakfast to bed, as long as you are consistent, it doesn't matter when you start counting for a 24 hour period.
  • As a Mom of a teen and two twenty-somethings, when my children offer to cook, I am over joyed. I am so happy to see my kids come home, if asked, I would try to adjust my cooking to what ever healthy thing they wanted. I would be overjoyed if two oldest kids asked for more vegetables, whole grains, less added sugar or a…
  • Having been around milk cows from my birth, I know that indeed certain breeds, i.e. Guernsey, Holstein, Jersey, produce too much milk for a calf to drain the udder. The cows come home, because they want to be milked. Similarly engorgement of breast after human babies are born is treated by pumping. Cows look at sex way…
  • Your target heart rate should not exceed 157. Your Maximum is about 185. Depending how much higher than 160 you are going, you could be courting a cardiac event. I am glad you are going to call your physician. Meanwhile dial it back a bit to keep your heart rate in the 93-157 range. Dr. will certainly ask about any…
  • Congratulations on your loss, and keep on logging!
  • There are many people who eat all of their calories in a limited amount of hours a day. It is a plan called intermittent fasting. It helps them to eat at a deficit and they are successful in losing weight. If you do not have a specific medical condition or medication that requires you eat first to use, there is no need for…
