The first thing I did, upon release from the hospital on March 8, 2015, was give up Pepsi and began counting carbs. On my follow up visit to the Doctor, he said I could avoid going on yet another medication if I lost 20% of my body weight. I began walking. I began to make serious changes in my diet and began counting…

Have lost almost 58 pounds and went from a 44 J to 36 J. The band size dropped before the bust but over all they have kept a 10-12 inch spread. I have worked hard to strengthen my shoulders, chest and back to maintain the muscle there that supported the extra weight. I have always had large breasts even when I was a…

All calories are equal as a measurement, however some of them hang out in more nutrient dense food than others. If you are looking for energy but are not in a big hurry to get it any old calorie will do. If you are looking for a particular nutrient (Macro or Micro) or you need a quickly usable form of energy then you need…

Monday-Friday, I meet friends for a 50 minute walk at 6 AM. I drink water but do not eat breakfast. If I am going for a longer walk, or doing strength training, I eat something in between the walk and the other. On any given day, I eat the bulk of my calories after 5 pm, I finish out my day with snack and two cups of milk.

Some of my friends are people I have known in real life since for many years, one is a relative. I critique him occasionally, usually because he posts a really inflated burn. But all the others I try only to be supportive. Occasionally I will get a challenge, I am not interested in, but not like what you are referring too.…

I am so glad I came back, and did not miss this story!

One of my best friends had to have her thyroid removed and takes medication to replace those hormones produced by the gland. Even when her numbers are in the "normal" range they still need to be adjusted for her to not experience sever depression. If you do have issues, see if you can be referred to an endocrinologist for…

Posture is so important to the appearance of ones tummy. Posture can be improved with strength and weight training. Exercises that target not only your abs, but shoulders, hips and back will all improve posture.

I am a daily weigh person, but I did some analysis of my last months weights. If I had only been weighing every week, no matter which day I chose, I would have lost at least 3 out of 4 weeks. I trust the process. The scale isn't my enemy nor my friend, it is a tool, one tool of many I use to track my progress or lack there…

Death bed or not, manipulation is not the best motivator. I hope you want to lose weight too. Make a list of all the reasons you want to lose weight and when there is no more wiggle room in the calorie allowance that day, review the list. I think support makes all the difference, surround yourself with supportive people.…

Look around the gym and see what equipment they have, bar bells, dumb bells, kettlebells, TRX, resistance bands, benches, or stools. Then look those things up on line or U-tube to see different exercises or work outs that incorporate the equipment to which you have access. If you see friendly people there working out, ask…

Don't wait to start weights and strength exercise. While eating at a deficit, needed to lose weight, you will not gain much if any measurable muscle weight, but you can strengthen what you have. By incorporating weight or strength training you will help insure that you are losing mostly fat. When we eat at a deficit…

All calories are proteins, fats, carbs or a combination of those macro-nutrient. Some macro-nutrients calories are accompanied by water, fiber, and micro-nutrients such as vitamins and minerals. Micro-nutrients, Macro-nutrients, fiber and water are important for proper body function in the correct portion. Some taken to…

This would be similar to the solution one has to drink as part of the prep for a colonoscopy. I had a colonoscopy last year and I hope never to have one again. Getting the solution down in the time given you was miserable. Then you drink lots of water after the solution. The cleansing begins and you spend the better part…

I eat in the mornings when I work out in the morning because I need the fuel. If I am not working out or working out later in the day then I do not eat until afternoon. For me it is a day by day thing, and it works for me.

Many mini goals has worked for me. MFP shows a long term goal and that is not fixed, because I haven't been at a healthy weight since 1999; even then I wanted to have less fat and more muscle. Some of my goals are measured in pounds, some measured in inches, and some are measured by blood tests which translate to taking…

I kept a spread sheet for three months before syncing my fitbit to MFP. I still keep the spread sheet. Measuring CO with fitbit and CI from MFP and calculating a 3500 calorie deficit per pound, my loss is 95% accurately predicted. In the beginning my loss was usually higher than predicted, in the last month my loss has…

As an old hag, I often do google searches on terms that I am unfamiliar with. I have learned some really interesting things and some really silly things. My kids laugh at me when I learn some new slang or internet acronym and use it incorrectly. I have learned to use caution until I am sure of correct usage.

When I was recovering from an injury, I took a total rest day and a modified rest day, on the advice of my physical therapist. On my modified rest day I did a different activity, like cycling as opposed to walk/running. Now that I have recovered I am back to walking/running 6 days a week. I do strength training three days…

Great loss. For me the first 45 pounds, 4-5 months, were pretty painless. Now I struggle more and have taken breaks where I ate at or near maintenance. The thing was, unlike before, I didn't put on weight, before starting to lose again. I think I have successfully made this into a lifestyle change, this time instead of…

You hang out, see who can back it up with science. You learn who you can trust. No one is infallible but there are some here that are darn close and if they say something that is incorrect it is usually minor. I trust @ninerbuff @rabbitjb @SLLRunner @usmcmp and many others here because they give great advice. Anyone who is…

I have an odd combination of skinny legs and hips and a big belly. I frequently alter my slacks and jeans by increasing the side seams an inch or so then tapering into the original seams as I approach the waist.

Stress for me is mostly about controlling my thoughts and self talk. If a voice internal or external is telling me to do more, when I am doing my best, I am stressed. I have to counter that with thoughts that recognize what I have accomplished. I remind myself of trends, that I am moving in the correct direction. Having…

I am the Mother, of an adult daughter that lives in my home. If I am asked nicely and given an explanation, I comply with reasonable requests. Most parents want what is best for their children. Her intent might have been to give you easy access to something that brought you enjoyment. She may have felt unappreciated. I…

Antidepressants can decrease metabolism slightly and increase appetite drastically. Combine that with the depression they are treating which generally decreases desire for activity and may induce one to eat for comfort, and you have the perfect weight gain formula. You need to confront these issues head on, Eat less and…
