I'm actually glad MFP has so many options for restaurant menu items in the database, because I like to dine out with the hubby about once a month. It allows me to plan ahead and shift around my calories throughout the rest of the day.

I gave up sodas and coffee when I started my diet. I didn't ditch the coffee for any reason other than I can't stand it black and pile it up with cream and sugar, which just seems like wasted calories at the beginning of the day. I had brutal headaches (including one day of a sick migraine) for about four days. I was also…

Corporations know how to market. Do they directly control the consumer's actions? Of course not, but they have a heavy influence on consumers and know how to get to them - through the kids. Corporations have a lot more power than you are giving them credit for. They invest millions in lobbyists to lobby before congress for…

Chances are you won't have too much loose skin. Not like you see on people who weighed 400+lbs and then lost a bunch of weight. How elastic your skin is depends on so many factors, including genetics, so you may or may not have some. Even if you do once you reach your goal weight it will never be the same as when you were…

Corporations can usually not be trusted to do the right thing. It's all about the bottom line, to hell with the impact on the consumer. But, then again, I'm a socialist, not a capitalist.

Same here, and when they have children going hungry and in poor health it infuriates me. My point is simply that I don't see as many smokers as I once did. I'm not sure if that's because of public smoking bans or the increase in cost of cigarettes or both. I know in traffic I don't see as many people with their cigarette…

I had a margarita with dinner tonight, and I'm not sorry!

If a kid is going to be so desperate for a soda that they'll take public transit to the next city over to buy one, then clearly an ordinance like this is needed.
-
I don't know about trends in your area, but I do not see anywhere near as many people smoking as there was five years ago. No one can afford to smoke anymore LOL

Is the government stopping the parents from buying soda for their kids?
-
I guess I don't see the problem. It would be a problem if they banned the sale to children entirely, but I fail to see what's wrong with not making it a prominent option with the meal. The article says parents can still order their kids a soda.

I weigh every other week and log once per month.

Whole wheat wrap with chicken breast, Miracle Whip, avocado, and red clover sprouts.

I normally work out between meals and have a snack after my workout. It's usually a cup of unsweetened plain almond milk, a scoop of Garden of Life Raw Meal in the vanilla chai spice flavor, and two tablespoons of TruNut cinnamon powdered peanut butter. I add about six ice cubes and give it a whirl in the VitaMix.

You're my hero. My husband has not altered his eating habits at all either, so I just prepare my food and he can choose to eat it or fix himself something else. I asked him point blank, "don't you care about your health?" He said, "eh, not really". So now every time he comes into the kitchen and I'm making something…

This may sound crazy, but if I'm in a situation where I won't be able to whip out a kitchen scale and measuring tools (i.e., dining out) once I realize I'm no longer hungry I put my napkin in my plate. I'm not going to want to retrieve a filthy, food covered napkin from my plate and set it on a clean table just so I can…

First of all, congratulations. Second, this is like walking into a minefield; however, I would approach it from the angle of having a healthy pregnancy, a good labor and delivery, and a healthy baby. When you're pregnant you need to be extra diligent about getting the proper nutrients. Giving into cravings once in awhile…

I eat some fruit almost every day, but how much I consume is largely contingent upon what I'm craving. I'll eat whatever fruit I feel like eating, track it, and move on. If I consume 300 calories in fruit one day and only 65 the next, so long as I work it into my daily calorie budget it won't impact my weight loss.

Other women. I've yet to meet a man who complained about what a woman ate on their dates. The craptastic, sexist mentality that women are supposed to eat like birds in front of men comes from other women. Our mothers. Our grandmothers. Women's magazines.

It's Catbug. I think he's a cat inside a lady bug shell.

Dear Laura, if you like the Aldi snacks and they satisfy your cravings at work and you're still within your calorie deficit I say go for it. If you're looking for snacks that are low-sugar, do you have a way of refrigerating things at your job? Hummus and cut up veggies is delicious. Really satisfying (especially with…

Yeah, definitely don't consume something you don't like, because at the end of the day there isn't a magic potion that will aid in weight loss or fat blasting. Life's too short to eat and drink things that suck

^This. I love a berry infused green tea. Just enough caffeine to keep my going and it tastes amazing.

Well, that escalated quickly. It went from asking about healthy snack options to xenophobia. Just another day on the MFP forums.

Sugar Health Effects There is nothing inherently worse about refined sugar, except that it's pretty much wasted calories. When it comes to simple sugars, they're all the same. Granted fructose is a much more easily absorbed sugar than sucrose, but if we're talking about something like white Dixie Crystals vs. Turbinado…

I take the women's Kind vitamin from Garden of Life. They make one that is for women 40 and over as well. I like them a lot. Do you need a vitamin? Not necessarily, but most of us don't get enough nutrients from our food.

This is purely anecdotal, so please take it with a grain of salt, but I have found the people who have the best results on WW are the ones who need to lose 50+ pounds, so around 3.5 stone? If you have a coupon to sit in on a meeting, by all means go and see how you like it. Then you can make an informed decision whether or…

Own it, track it, and then move on.
