I have done 2 TM and you sound very prepared. There's no need to worry about running. The obstacles really break it up and depending on where you live, the steep/rugged terrain will slow you down to a walk sometimes anyway. Don't worry about the obstacles - its really so much more FUN than you can imagine. Except for…

Thank you!!!!!!

I did the Super at Blue Mt too! I have done twi Tough Mudders before but neither of them could prepare me for the punishing sufferfest of Soartan. Don't get me wrong, I loved it!

I might look into to getting a new mother. Or at least put the old one in a box when she starts harassing you about your weight. Seriously, that is an unhealthy dynamic. Lose weight, be healthy for YOURSELF, not to impress someone else (who, by the way, is supposed to love you unconditionally to begin with). Sometimes you…

WORD. I won't work as hard or as long at home as I will at the gym.

I am trying to follow the "rule" of eating bigger meals earlier in the day. "Eat like a king for breakfast, a farmer for lunch, and a peasant for dinner." Breakfast is hard cause I'm always rushing so I usually do a protein bar and banana. But lunch! YEAH BOY! The lunch I have packed for tomorrow has 600 calories in it…

I need to be relatively intimidated by them. Otherwise I won't work my hardest. If I didn't need a push then I really wouldn't need an instructor or trainer anyway.

Dear @Orphia First I LOVE your profile pic! Second I love your discipline. I have huge amounts of discipline - until I don't. It's tricky to manage those weak times and come out still being/ feeling okay with yourself.

I didn't know it was in there under exercise BUT I use my garmin and heartrate to track my calories and for body pump I am only burning b/n 250-290 cal per session and I lift pretty heavy. (squats i use 59 lbs, for chest I use 48, etc.) Without a heartrate monitor your calorie estimates will probably always be exaggerated.…

I have to come to barbequesauce's defense. If you are walking slow enough to write and work then i don't see how you were being judged, let alone insulted, by a stranger's use of the word plod. Try to not to read so much into each word. Besides, that ^ was a good idea. When you can be hands free for a few moments, take the…

Exactly.

But you also can split your miles. I road and trail run and do splits based on each mile. The goal is to have your splits get faster which is tricky because (especially in a race) most runners start like gangbusters and finish slower. You want to aim for the opposite - slow warming up start and faster finish.

Heartrate monitor. The only way.

@tootiehas3 I am a teacher too! I have trouble getting in my steps at work too. My garmin wont count a step if i am holding something (not swinging my arms) and I am always holding something when i teach or i am chained to my desk grading. I am going to have to get a footpod to connect to my watch for the summer. It sounds…

@tobeylenae What you said about getting fit but still not being happy really resonates with me. How many people have told me, "i wish I was as thin as I was when I thought I was fat."? I did it to myself too - becoming very thin in my 20s (i exercised every day but only for weight loss, not for health so there was no joy…

Wow. Thanks for being so genuine and honest. I sometimes turn to food for comfort. Like if I'm having a bad day at work, for some reason I then assume I "deserve" a _____________ (fill in the blank with anything totally inappropriate). It's so hard to switch those default habits without creating new just as bad ones like…

@keatome I am a working mom who is 47 w/ a 9 yr old daughter and I also want to be a positive role model for her. I have battled food issues my whole life and I don't want to pass on a legacy of yo-yoing and negative self-image to her! I will friend request you!

I am 47 with a younger husband who is, and always has been, very fit. Need to protect my investment there! I also have a 9 yr old daughter and I want her to be proud of me in that she sees me as a strong, healthy, confident woman. I run roads and trails, cycle, swim, and lift. I just completed my first triathlon this past…

I just started today using a trick for cooling off quickly post hot run. Pre-soak some small towels with water , put in freezer bags and then in your freezer. Pull a bag out pre-run (maybe add a few ice cubes if the bag will be sitting in a hot car while you run) and when your are finished your run you will have an…

@glevinso It was the run that got everybody. Down the dunes across soft sand and back up dunes - twice. Torture! And hot! Plus my T1 was 8 min long b/c it was raining in the morning so I just covered my bag with a trashbag and hoped it would stay dry. Then the sun came out which was great but i had to basically unpack my…

I did it! Thanks to all who gave tips and encouragement! It really helped. My husband and I did a practice tri on the Chesapeake, we participated in the swim clinic the day before the race and I ended up coming in the top 50% overall and the top 30% women. It really does feel incredible to do something you previously…

So I feel like you guys have been sharing a lot of similar ideas: No artificial sweetners (like in diet soda) More water (even if it is seltzer) More salads with protein More careful, wise, and disciplined choices esp. re. carbs, protein, and serving size, and what we eat first I love it! I love how we all would agree on…

I am trying to eat a salad at work everyday too! It's a HUGE salad but hey, spinach and spring mix help me feel full and Tyson pre-cubed chicken helps me stay full! And I love the idea of eating protein first! So smart. I'm am growing in my awareness of what is healthier for me through MFP and I realize a handful of…

Hey lacy328 - in response to this: "doing this calorie count thing for a week now and I'm already depressed" We have all been there! It gets better. Try to not let your feelings get the best of you. I like your use of the word vow. Staying true to vows takes hard work and discipline but you can do it!
-
Aw, man. I LOVE diet soda! That would be hard for me to give up completely. I did start drinking seltzer instead. Kudos to you!
-
It takes courage to join in on MFP! It would be so easy to just go it alone - without support or accountability. I think that's why I am back for my second attempt as well. I need a network too!

Me too! I could use some accountability and support. I am 47 and fit - 2 tough mudders and 2 half marathons in the bag with a triathalon coming up. But I am frustrated with the layer of pudge that hides how strong I feel and think and know I really am. Could use a friend!

A full IM? You have my full respect!
