  • Mary Roach books are so good, I went to one of her talks recently. They make you think about so many things that never even cross your consciousness. I’ve just finished Grunt, which is about the military and science. They use a lot of cadavers in military vehicle testing, blow them up and watch what happens to the…
  • I use Libra and trendweight.com, Honestly I preferred happy scale but that is only available on apple at the moment. The trend is useful to me, takes the stress out of fluctuations. Also when comparing the trend to my diary I can see what works better for me.
  • That's really interesting, those look like cases where the surviving partner gave up and neglected themselves. It does show how profound grief can be, sepecially if you've been been with someone for years. The couple I'm aware of the surviving partner died withing 1-3 days almost literally of heartbreak, as they were…
  • It's weird what they did with bodies in medieval times, from what I recall there was a belief that you actually needed your body for judgement day so cremation wasn't really a thing. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eleanor_cross My husband’s grandparents died within a couple of days of each other. When his grandmother died…
  • I think it's a combination of factors closeness and gender being important. Spent the weekend with my in-laws, I've lost about 30lb he's lost about 35lb, they go on and on about his loss, whereas I get a 'you're looking well'. Neither has comented on how we're eating, but being closer to him they comment. In contrast one…
  • I'm sure it was because you give your immune system a workout and eat lots of oranges, and you do this because big pharma made you a sheeple due to injecting you with a mind control chip. [/sarcasm] But glad you're well, it's frustrating when you've been preparing yourself for something and it gets put off.
  • We had an exchange student stay with us, she was about 17 and would only eat 6 foods. * Chicken * Pasta * Bread * Ham * Cheese * Chocolate I didn't know about bianca pizza until she stayed. Her and my sister are still friends, she now eats more foods but she is still the fussiest person I know.
  • As far as I can see the way for success is finding a way of eating that supports the energy balance you need and is sustainable for you. I tried 5:2, it wasn't sustainable for me I became a right nightmare. Very quickly made excuses to give up. some people have success with 5:2, some do IF with daily windows. So might be…
  • I can't say it's the best, because it's the only one I've really used. But I use the Fitbit Alta, mainly because it works really well with the ecosystem I'm using (Fitbit, MFP and trendweight.com). It doesn't do as much on % readings as the one you have (after a quick google) but it works fine for me. My OH has a profile…
  • That was actually a question in my physics A-level paper, working out temperature changes of ice water when drunk to KJ of energy. And how you'd have to drink to lose a lb.... I seem to remember it was A LOT
  • My mother has always had weight issues (as do most in the family), we had a fairly frank chat when it was obvious I was losing and she signed up to MFP too. She's doing really well so can be quite honest about it and we have a similar WOE. However my in-laws are different, they don't go on about my weight but do about my…
  • I once heard that you shouldn’t drink beer because that's the only thing that causes a beer belly. If someone had a round tummy they were a secret alcoholic. Also if you drank alcohol (other than beer) till you were drunk your body wouldn't know what it was doing and wouldn't store the calories of what you ate..... Even…
  • What does having 'mother' mean?
  • Yep, my grandfather died in a hospice coughing up his lungs due to advanced cancer after a lifetime of smoking. But pretty sure it was becuase he used to eat sugar out of a bag using a stick of butter as a spoon.... that fits my bias. It's pretty clear that avoiding mortality and morbidity due to vaccinations is a good…
  • This makes me so angry, Wakefield was struck off by the GMC for being a massive liar and fabricating data. Meanwhile he is trying to get funding for more propaganda films. As I've said I personally know someone who is deaf from measles, and someone who is infertile from mumps. Also if you don't believe studies based on…
  • I love Shaun of the dead, there are so many sub-references top other vintage horror movies, video games and culture references, so very British and really funny. In other news human blood is on the MFP database....
  • Well he wasn't chewing after 8pm, (excluding popcorn)
  • I don't eat sweeteners (I know they're safe but I don't like the taste and some of them give me a headache) I was told I could never lose weight if I didn't switch to diet coke and light yoghurts *sigh*
  • I think if I made my husband watch reality TV he would rebel in a way that was horrific. Then again does depend on your relationship dynamic
  • My OH tried MFP, didn't like it, just stopped tracking. He had about 60lb to lose to be a 'normal' BMI. He wanted to lose just not to log. I was doing this for me, and it was up to him what he did so I didn’t try to make him do anything. So basically he just ate what I made. Because he was on board in principle he tracked…
  • The last step, in the step-by-step guide is 'enjoy your food'. If you think you can follow it sure, But the best advice for sticking to it seems to be from Yoni Freedhoff If you don't like the life you're living, you're not going to keep living that way. Not just the OP, but I wonder why people go for very specific and…
  • @LittleHearseDriver I know you said about having an order of service for someone who's died. Have you ever had any you thought were awful? or tried to re-write? At my Grandfather's funeral my uncle put in a diatribe about how my grandfather beat him and my dad to show he 'had conviction'. :s
  • There is a group here where you can find friends, specific to the kind of fitbit you have if you want.... http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/1290-fitbit-users,
  • I find it hard to see all the 'well I won't vaccinate because I've never had x disease, it makes the immune system stronger'. Realising it's other people who have been sensible protecting them. I know, in my family and friends;* Someone who was disabled through polio * Someone who was made completely deaf though measles *…
  • I'm now just curious.... If she's into fitness it's possible she's on MFP, and, in fact it was seeing the post that caused the change..... plot twist
  • I've seen it a few times with that user, just chips in to tell someone they can't spell, or they have bad grammar. Fortunately they normally get flagged and deleted.
  • I know someone who tells everyone she's gluten free so she has a 'legitimate' reason to avoid office cake and biscuits even though she’s not. I can see how people with disordered eating patterns could use vegan/vegetarianism as an excuse not to participate. Just like I’ve heard someone with an ED used excuses as ‘I ate at…
  • This is hands down the greediest cat in the world, also he was so big (and cute) it was hard to say no....

  • This sort of thing has been going on for decades. OP you are already very light, It may be worth looking at your perception.
  • I wasn't saying all, just that if it's something you don't do often it might be a pain. Depending on what you're trying to measure the conversion can be more, or less, difficult. My mum took pity on me and bought me a set of cups and spoons, very useful for cocktails!
