New PR yesterday 385 (175kg)x 2 after hitting 380x 5 reps. I never attempt a max lift but that's the most I've managed. Goal is to try and get to 400lbs by christmas.

Are they connected? If so then log it in one and let it populate across, if they are not log it in whichever you use to track your calories. I use Jefit for my workout tracking but its more about a log of weights, reps and progression. Calories I track (most the time :$) in MFP as thats where I log my food.

Stronglifts. No point messing with something that works. Will be more than just machines and medicine balls, but at the same time it will be more beneficial.
-
Start with the bar, however you may need to prop this up for deadlifts as you wont practice good form if you aren't working from a normal plate height.

Could be worth checking exactly what kind of movements you think are feeling weak. Arms aren't really the main muscle in push-up (although they are a part). It could be that you are targeting the wrong muscles. From a lifting perspective, traditional arms (biceps/triceps) don't tend to get a lot of focus as its generally…

So I watched the initial video. What I saw was a peer - regardless of your view on this women's credentials or reputation I consider her learning adequate to equate her with the authors of the original piece - review of an article published in a medical journal. What I saw was a fellow scientist that was unhappy with the…

Crunchy veg and small pots of hummus was my go to for ages. Filling and tasty. Probably less appealing is smoked fish/jerky (carry gum). Protein bars are good but expensive and you need to be sure you're happy with the nutrition profile in them as they vary a lot.

Whey or casein are the most common, you can read all the hype about the other crap they put in it but in my experience what makes or breaks a whey powder is how palatable it is. Cheap whey can be nasty to the point where its in-edible. If you are slimming avoid anything with carbs in (bulking) - this should be clear by the…

If you aren't dropping it on your knees and remembering to control it on the way down, I wouldn't be concerned about the descent. I would echo above though, not enough weight to judge for certain. There needs to be enough that you have to apply the form and in this case it looks like you are just going through the motions.…

Mine's open, its scary to think someone else will look at it though. Better stop eating crap...

I have attended Ashtanga Yoga classes for a number of years. Its quite energetic and follows a set series of postures. We always start with the sun salutation, 2 sets of basic postures connected together which give a great warm-up and general stretch. If you want something quick and not too involved then look this up.…

Last one I promise :) So bought myself one of these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ultimate-Performance-Titan-Runners-Waist/dp/B00569RA8K/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1438079759&sr=8-2&keywords=running+belt Sure you can find one on Amazon wherevery you live. That way I can turn on a GPS app on my phone like Runkeeper and not have to…

Go by how you feel. If you are doing a decent strength program and then HIIT that should be more than enough for anybody. All I would say is that as the strength program gets harder be prepared to reduce your workouts and give yourself time to recover. If your strength program is not getting nay harder then you need to…

Standard progression for a strength program would be try to hit your reps, if you make it, next session add 2.5kg, if you don't then try again. If you fail on 3 concurrent occasions, take some weight off and work back up. 5kg jumps in squats gets very hard very quickly. Just check you got the right size hole in the plates…

Progress pics are the best. I agree you wont have that much muscle yet, but the minute things start to get a bit stringer its visible in your posture and standing. Even if the weight hasn't started coming off yet, the fact that you notice a difference is GREAT. Keep up the good work and in 12 weeks you'll be amazed at how…

Lavrn, with the weights, try adding some compound lifts (if these aren't in there already), squats/deadlifts/lunges. Progress them so you keep adding weight, you'll build muscle quicker which helps with your fat burning even in your off days. Also, great work :)

As Mike says, lift first then cardio. Nothing wrong with the calorie intake just watch out how you're feeling. Only other thing to add and I wont be the last to say it: Don't focus on the scales - I know its an easy way to measure whats happening and so taking it into account may be helpful but I would focus on how you…

I do low calorie to lose weight. I do low carb in periods (4-12 weeks) when I want to focus on cutting body fat, but I don't perform as well in the gym on low carb so its a periodical thing for me (usually for summer). As everyone says, you cant lose weight without eating less calories, the low carb just plays on the…

Home made pork patty (reduced fat pork mince + seasoning and sage), scrambled eggs (microwave so no need for fats). Tomorrow will be an omlette of chopped peppers and jamaican jerk chicken.

Agree, overestimate food, underestimate exercise. At the end of the day, anyone trying to use these figures as an exact science will be surprised. You just need a guide then see what works.

I fail at the discipline for this so often, but at the same time I am so pleased when I know what I am eating and I can go to the fridge and there is always something suitable there! Some of the things I do to make sure when I cant be bothered to cook fresh I am not left with poor choices: - Make everything for 3-4 people…

Nicola, everyone changes at different rates. Not meaning to be too personal but do you have some background on your weight and exercise levels? There's no one given rate of improvement and if you have gone from never exercising to running you may need more time to adjust. All the advice above is good with relation to the…

Not wanting to give you excuses for doing it often but your body generally ignores single 'spikes'. Its what you do over time that counts. If you didn't eat for one day do you expect that weight to fall off you? Likewise even on a massive binge, there is only so much of that energy that your body can process and store as…

I'm still on the fence with regard to gaining muscle whilst losing fat. I've been around long enough, read enough stuff that suggests that this is potentially true and false. I don't believe for a second that its a simple clear cut answer, life always 'depends'. I think the responses you have are great, are you gaining…

Runkeeper - whats great is it can connect to MFP so when you do your run/walk it logs it in exercise for you.

I think its just the name, search for 'Les Mills BODYPUMP™' under the cardio section. Careful everyone that uses this says it overestimates the calories...

^^^^ This! sweet potato is fantastic, cut into wedges (skin on) and baked in a little olive oil with salt and rosemary is just brilliant. Other than that things like cous cous and quinoa are great suggestions. If you don't want carbs at all you can look at things like olives and cheeses although you need to be careful on a…

I could be flippant and just write 'food totaling no more than 1200 cal' but that's not really helpful :) For me I would cut out processed carbs (bread, pasta, rice etc), stick to green vegetables, seasoned and spiced meats and watch my fat intake.I work on 1800cal at the moment and I am cutting, my body responds well to…

Know this feeling well. Some general advice - bodies don't do things quickly, its what occurs over a longer period that matters, consistency is universal in both gaining and losing. Spikes are generally ignored (until they become the norm!). So just as starving yourself for 1 day wont suddenly drop your weight, a single…

Hey Ali, I have been battling with this same problem the last year. In 2014 I worked hard into the summer getting myself into great shape using strength training, running and ashtanga yoga. I had a vacation booked in early September and I dieted hard to look great for that. It was VERY hard on me but at the same time I was…
