I find it very difficult to eat exactly to a particular calorie level, especially on days where I end up with more activity after dinner. I also don't like going in the red (I know it's psychological, but it bugs me). So I have set MFP to gain half a pound a week. In reality I would like to gain a little but not that fast,…

I charge my charge HR every day during my shower. Like above, it's rarely fully charged, but it will stay most of the way charged for a long while. When I notice it starting to get low, I will let it charge for about an hour while I sit after dinner or even have charged it while driving.

I put mine at lightly active because 1) it drives me crazy to see that low initial number and 2) I often would end up with crazy extra calories added especially if I didn't get my walk in until later in the day. I find it overwhelming to be looking at 1000 calories left after I've had dinner (or even just pre-logged it). I…

Definitely up the calories some. I know it's hard to believe you can eat a lot more, but I really think you can. I'm 5'7" as well, but 49 yo and don't exercise nearly as much and I found I continued to lose under about 2100-2200 calories a day. I'm also lighter than you as I kept losing because I couldn't believe my…

My kids always preferred their vegetables raw when they were little, so even if we (DH and I) were having cooked vegetables, I would let the kids have them raw if they wanted. My 19 yo still doesn't eat cooked vegetables for the most part. I figure it's his problem now, not mine. But the other thing I did for vegetables…

You'll need a plug to convert from UK to US plug style. Some places may have USB plugs that you can plug directly into (check on the TV as well for a USB plug). We were in England and Ireland this summer and had taken one converter - which turned out to be insufficient for 4 people. We were able to buy an additional…

I'm there with you. I was so worried about regaining the weight I lost, that I kept going down to a few pounds below my goal weight and then started slowly adding calories. I kept losing. So I upped my calories a bit more - but still losing. Finally I set my calorie goal to gain 0.5 pounds a week. I don't think I'm really…

I went on a big 3 week vacation last summer when I was still fairly new to logging. I set my calories to maintain and did my best to log, even though I realized it was often a wild guess. It did help me realize some of the good and bad choices out there. I also found that if I was eating something I'd had before, I could…

I used my iPhone for quite a while to measure my steps. It generally worked fine, but it would annoy me when I wasn't carrying it because of charging or not having pockets or simply having put it down. I got a Fitbit charge HR for Christmas. I like it better - I think it tracks my steps and my efforts better. It doesn't…

I eat all my meals at the table, usually just the kitchen table. The dining room table tends to be a catch all, but we do eat there for birthdays and holidays (and sometimes for a few weeks after). But I eat meals at the kitchen table even when it's just me at home. Snacks are anywhere. But I think there might be a point…

Fitbit often will auto recognize my walks, but mislabel them as sport. If I notice it, I will usually correct it, but I'm not sure it makes much difference if I don't.

I got serious about losing weight when I got some a pre-diabetic diagnosis as well as borderline cholesterol at my annual physical. DH is more overweight than I was and has been on and off cholesterol meds, but hasn't gotten serious about losing weight. But, he has lost some since last summer while I've been losing,…

I would start upping your calories slowly now and not wait for that last half pound. I was where you are a few months ago. I had heard about the bump in weight and was concerned about it, but it didn't happen for me, because I increased my calories slowly. As it turns out, too slowly. I ended up losing another 10 pounds.…

I set my activity to lightly active partly to motivate myself to get out of the negative numbers, but also because at the end of the day, I really am genuinely at least lightly active. Most days I get an additional 200-400 calories. In the roughly month I've had my charge HR, I've been as low as 7 extra calories and as…

Why not try calculating total calories and logging for a few days to a week? Just to get a better handle on calories of the stuff you tend to eat. I found when I first started logging, that I was off on calories of various things - some I was over estimating and others I was under estimating. That said, before I found MFP,…

Roasting vegetables is great! I also like to steam broccoli. It keeps well in the fridge and my kids eat it fine, even if my 19 yo still only eats it raw, not cooked. He's been eating raw veggies mostly since he finished with baby foods. I don't do salads much in the winter, but the rest of the year, I often have a salad…

I'm 5'7" and had a goal of 140, but even after I declared I was at maintenance, I still kept losing unintentionally. I am trying to watch my carbs due to a prediabetic diagnosis, but I found I was having trouble adding calories without a bunch of carbs. What I would really *like* to add calorie wise is sweets, but I've…

I cut back when I started trying to lose weight because it seemed like an easy way to cut down the calories, especially since I like the more caloric dark beers. Many of them are 200+ calories per beer. I'd rather not drink than drink lite beer. Now that I'm maintaining, I often look at my food log and think I'd better…

I came in at about 300 calories over my goal, which is maintenance now. I thought it would be more, and maybe it was since it was all estimated. But I'm still under my weekly goal, barely. Tomorrow is going to be tough as we're traveling so eating out at least twice and not much activity.

My cat would! Or at least I assume she would, she gets the tuna water and laps it all up immediately.

Most of the weight loss happens in the kitchen. Dedicate yourself to weighing your food so you can see how much you are eating. Then work on the fitness. I've found that there are many times where I have a few minutes here or there where I could be walking at least. I saw a friend post that she was so busy, having a hard…

@xKoalaBearx how much more have you lost, if you don't mind my asking? I keep upping my calories as well and have lost more than I intended, but I find it hard to add a whole bunch at once. I've been trying to look at it as a buffer going into Thanksgiving. I would love to think that this week coming up would give me a…

One of my favorites is the turkey sandwich the next day. Turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce and cheese all toasted. Super yum!

I found I could mix the flavored yogurt with plain yogurt and get less sugar that way and now I find the regular yogurt way too sweet. I find most of the protein bars are not really to my liking, but some of the nut bars are really tasty and not too bad on sugars - instead they have a lot of fats. Try reading labels at the…

I found that if you are going to raise your calories slowly that you can go ahead and start raising once you hit goal, because you will keep losing a little more. For example if you were at a deficit of 250 calories and you add back in 100 calories a day, you are still at a deficit of 150 calories per day. Personally I…

I thought that part of the point of the Fitbit was that it gave you an accurate number of calories used all day? I'm looking to get a Fitbit at least partly for that reason, so I will know what level I should be eating to. If all my exercise is of the sort that the Fitbit will measure reasonably, can I trust its number?

Thanksgiving we have most of the usual - turkey, stuffing, sweet potato casserole, some form of green beans, rolls, cranberry sauce (homemade is so much better IMO), gravy. Then usually 3 pies, even if there are only 4 of us plus my mom. Always pumpkin, Apple or cranberry Apple and mincemeat. I make my own mincemeat and…

We're going to my in laws for Thanksgiving. I'm not taking a scale. I will try to be reasonable about my choices and hope to take a nice walk that day. The bigger problem will be the travel days going to and from their house. It's about 9-10 hour drive, so at least one if not 2 meals on the road, and not much chance to…

If it's not too weird, I'll sometimes take a picture of my plate and then log as best I can later.

Frozen wild caught salmon at my Aldi is under $5/pound. We usually have it about once a week. I like to make double (or more) batches of main dishes for dinner, but I don't like reheated fish nearly as much.
