  • I'm obsessed with Trader Joe's. I used to work there in college and it was the best job I've ever had! Cherry chocolate chip soy ice cream baguette brie cheese honey salted butter TJ's brand greek yogurt TJ's brand cottage cheese ground turkey Vietnamese spring rolls with shrimp Frozen potstickers Frozen berries Frozen…
  • I can't do birth control. None of it. It messes with my hormones so much, and I get hangry and PMS-y and all that. When I'm off all birth control I get no cramps, no PMS, and my appetite is regulated more. I tried hard to lose weight while on birth control and it didn't happen for me because there'd be a week of every…
  • This definitely varies person to person, but I was in a very hot climate (105 degrees F) for 4 days, and my weight was 180 lbs the whole time. I came back to 70-75 degree F weather, which is what I'm used to, and when I woke up the next morning I was 174 lbs. So, you could be easily retaining 5-10 lbs of water weight…
  • No, that's morbidly obese: "An individual is considered morbidly obese if he or she is 100 pounds over his/her ideal body weight, has a BMI of 40 or more, or 35 or more and experiencing obesity-related health conditions, such as high blood pressure or diabetes." He had a BMI of 41.7. He was morbidly obese.
  • I'm 5'4" and I don't have big hips or wide shoulders or anything like that, I am just unusually muscular for a woman and I've always hovered in the 140s with my bodyfat 20-22% (size 6 in jeans)...so, pretty thin, but quite muscular. Trying to get back to that now :)
  • 5'4" SW 175 30% fat with 112 lbs of lean body mass CW 170 GW 22% fat which will probably bring me to around 135-140 lbs. It's cool to see such ranges. I know girls my height who are easily 115 lbs. I am 112 lbs of lean body mass (organs, bones, muscles etc...) so I could never, ever be 115 lbs (I'd be dead) And at the same…
  • I don't run with water. I see a lot of people doing Bikram yoga with water and I can't see how they do that. If I drank water in the middle of bikram yoga I'd want to throw up. I hydrate before & after exercising only.
  • I see. So for my particular situation, might it be better for me to do the TDEE method instead of MFP + logging burns? I am truly trying to be as accurate as possible with what I have to work with. I strongly believe in CICO.
  • Thank you! I really appreciate the responses.
  • Yeah, I tend to go over on cals on days that I drink alcohol. I have switched to tea. Whenever I want a drink at night, I brew some herbal tea or tea with lemon and honey. As you can see from my diary though, I haven't given up alcohol. It's just something I have to cut back on in order to stay under my calorie goals...
  • I would say "absolutely nothing is worth achieving over maintaining your physical health, wellness and fitness" The only thing that aided me into gaining 40 lbs over 3-ish years is because I literally said to myself "it's okay if I gain a little weight now" Because I was pre-med, applying to schools and working 50-60 hours…
  • I'm from the San Francisco Bay area and I'm a part-time surgery assistant (head & neck only) and part-time woodwoorker/artist with my own business, and avid gardener. 32 going on 60 ;) Oh, and I've been trying to lose the same 40 lbs for two years now. I will not give up!
  • I work in the medical field too, and I am on my feet on workdays and my pedometer says 9,500-10,500 steps a day, depending on the day. This is not including exercise (exercise brings me WAY up) I'm just not sure what my activity level would be, and I initially set my calories to "sedentary" as well.
  • Yes, I've always been fatter on my left side than my right side. Even when I was 130 lbs and pretty thin, but I can tell more obviously now that I'm heavier. I've just accepted it.
  • I'm not married but when my life partner and I moved in together we both gained. We print out calendars and put them on the fridge and on the calendar we keep track of our health goals. This month his is running 100 miles, this month mine is going to the gym a certain number of times and tracking how many miles I run…
  • My hands swell and lower back hurts too. I tend to hold my hands above my head for part of my walk and move my wrists around a lot so the blood/fluid collected can rush out of my hands into my torso. It's just gravity. As far as my lower back, I have to stretch it daily after long walks. I get super bad back pain from…
  • That family needs to see the 12 year olds pediatrician ASAP. I remember my mom took me in before she had me running 10Ks with her when I was 12. He did say that some intense forms of exercise and lifting can stunt growth in some children. He said I was okay to run races with my mom if I wanted.
  • I was SO into Doodleart when I was younger, and I'm 32! Definitely a generation-spanning activity :)
  • YES to all of this! Thank you, I think the portioning things in jars/plastic bags is going to start helping me immensely. I think part of the issue is that I love to cook but then I inhale all of it without having a CLUE of how much I'm actually eating. Portioning out ahead of time would save that.
  • With how much I eat you wouldn't believe it, but I agree with the tedious part. I LOVE to cook, I could cook for hours on end and prepare food for tons of people with joy and energy... but then when it comes to eating that food, I definitely don't find the same joy. It's more okay, pile a bunch on my plate and I'll wolf it…
  • I only say "for obvious reasons" because if you check out my food diary, protein is the only macro i'm seriously lacking at reaching on a daily basis. Even with the calorie overload. I like meat - chicken, turkey, seafood, stuff like that. I think I've just shied away from buying it at the grocery store because sometimes…
  • None, I don't have any medical issues that would warrant it.
  • Yes! I'm trying hard on the veggie front. Fats, though, I eat full-fat yogurt and eggs, avocados when I can afford them... Nuts, but then I tend to overdo it and take handfuls and ruin the cal intake. I gotta get my portion sizes down so when I do eat fats-foods I'm not eating too much. I showed 6 months of my eating…
  • Yeah, I like this idea a lot. I think if I shoot for minimal loss I will be happy to see results and not feeling super hungry. I also should probably split up my logging since I see how that can be confusing for an stranger trying to parse out what my diet is like! I normally eat 3-4 separate times a day.
  • I like this idea. I feel like going from eating 2200 cals a day to 1700 all of a sudden my body was like "what are you doing to me?!" It was a weird feeling. Maybe if I do go down by 100 cals at a time, per week or every few days, I can "trick" my body into eating less and eventually get down to a good solid meal plan at…
  • No, I'm a surgery assistant, so I'm standing or walking around the OR for 5-6 hours 3 days a week. Using a pedometer, I average 8,000 steps a day when I *don't* do exercise. Other than that I do woodworking at my home which requires a lot of lifting of wood planks and use of power tools and standing while I use them.…
  • Yeah but I do agree that when I tried eating below maintenance my brain & body went a little temporarily insane. I couldnt sleep and I felt like I had taken speed for two straight days, it was the strangest feeling. That's the only reason I went back to eating like I "usually" do
