  • Go into your settings, choose "update your diet profile," go to the bottom of the page and find "What is your goal?" Use the dropdown to choose "maintain my current weight."
  • I was at your current weight (5'-6") when my doc said I was perilously close to diabetes and should cut out all white carbs. Everybody's body and mind are different from everyone else's, but that really helped me. It meant cutting out my constant snacking on candy, chips and cake, but for some reason it didn't *feel* like…
  • Either last year or the year before, I bought a belt from a leatherworker at a festival booth as a reward because I'd undergrown those that I had. I had him put the hole for my waist size then in the middle, just in case. The other day, I held that belt and my current belt by their buckles. The highest hole on the old belt…
  • What they said about weight loss not being linear. Here's my 1-year graph: The reason the end is so flat is that i'll write my daily weight in a bathroom notebook, and then catch up on that a couple weeks at a time at MFP. But the weighing and measuring, yes. I've gotten pretty good at estimating - I know what a…

  • You expect us to know more than a nutritionist? :) You might also try pureeing vegetables and adding them to stews, meatloaves, burgers and such. "The Sneaky Chef" by Missy Chase Lapine http://www.thesneakychef.com/ and "Deceptively Delicious" by Jessica Seinfeld both have recipes for this technique.
  • I'm among those who finds Quest bars entirely edible, and not the revolting item some taste. My brother-in-law finds broccoli bitter; I like broc. I find them at a couple grocery chains and, as others have noted, gnc. Even within one chain, some stores will have one or two flavors, others will have half a dozen or more.

  • Congratulations! You've done a terrific job on and for yourself.
  • What queenliz said. :) I'm a sample of one, so not statistically valid. But after decades of problems controlling my weight, what did it for me, first, was a doctor's order to replace all white carbs with whole grains. For some reason, that didn't feel like dieting, even though it meant an end to snacking on cookies, cakes…
  • I'd lost more than 40 pounds before people started noticing. Then it seemed several people were asking me every week if I'd lost weight. When I was at goal and saw some people for the first time in a year or so, they asked about it timidly, then said they'd been afraid maybe I'd lost it because of illness.
  • I can't even claim mine was a project. I opened the car door, put a computer bag on the ground, stood up, bent down and hit my forehead on the car door, right at the corner. The corner of the door. My head doesn't have them. Yet.
  • @BlackPantherChick123 - how are you doing?
  • @endlessfall16 - no reason to miss any events. But going to celebrations &c doesn't mean you have to eat and drink everything. If you don't like lowest-calorie cocktails and the higher-calorie ones won't fit in your calorie budget, drink water or fizzy water and eat more food. :) Alcohol isn't necessary for a good time.
  • @NewMEEE - very cool, being able to eat more and lose. And what you learned from the nutritionist (and that your job pays for her counsel). @2012retiree - sounds reasonable. 15 more or 100 total, whichever makes you feel better. :) @0505jen - I was snacking hugely until the doc told me I was near diabetes and should ditch…
  • @rideclercq4 - very cool on the flip turns! When I was in high school, my stroke was 'fly (and therefore also IM). What was yours? @dutchand... how wonderful about your mother! @kathygk56 - huzza for knee bones! :-D And for loose skinny jeans! Me, I'm still not thinking about skinny pants ... but I'm 64, need panties, and…
  • A pair of size 10 pants I bought last month are hanging around my hips, dragging the floor. And it's not that I've lost weight, or been an exercise demon. But I am walking more. My two previous requirements for pants (aside from fitting) were wash-'n'-wear and gotta have pockets. I'm adding a third: Belt loops.
  • I have a request: Could each day's challenge be posted the evening before? I have time to go online in the evening, mostly. I won't see even early morning postings until I get home.
  • I have (I think) set my watch to beep every hour. I'll use that as a reminder to get up and walk or run three times around the hall in the building I work - each round is about 110 steps. I've been doing that lately each time I cross the hall to use the jane, but need to try to do it hourly. I already walk in place during…
  • wow - 338 pages! I'm starting at the end A pair of size 12 jeans that was snug when I bought them a few months ago -- as in, I couldn't get my cell phones (work and mine) into the side pockes -- slid off my hips without being unbuttoned. I bought them well after I began maintenance, but walking more and attempting a bit of…
  • I'm maintaining after many fails. Feel free to add me. If you do, remind me that you're Jason and I answered your message. :)
  • And things can change within a relationship. The last time I lost a significant amount of weight, The Man In My Life said I was being obsessive, and was embarrassed if we were eating out and I asked for nutritional info or for substitutions. This time around, he's been nothing but supportive.
  • Branwyn - how much have you told MFP you want to lose per week? I'm not a nutritionist, but what I'd do is, if I had it set for 1/2 lb/week, I'd say, cool. I'll lose faster. If I was set for 2 lbs/week, I'd think about what sort of snacks I could add. For instance, a Quest nutrition bar (I happen to like them) would be 170…
  • I'm glad you're going to let yourself play with more calories. I think you'll be pleased with the results. 3 lbs a week, just isn't sustainable, especially when you're so close to goal. For whatever it's worth, I set myself a 1 lb/week goal when i came here nearly a year ago with about 20 lbs to lose. When I got within 10,…
  • I like to keep a couple hundred calories for good chocolate. I just had Lindt dark with chili. Don't do that if you're worried about bingeing. But, really, assuming your food so far has been fairly well balanced, you can consider them free calories. :) Some people advise not eating back all exercise calories. I'd…
  • I think the suggestion about retraining your taste buds is a good one. I now use coffee as a calcium vehicle -- either 1/3 cup dry skim milk in an 8 or 12-oz cuppa, or at a coffeehouse, a 16oz cafe au lait with 8 oz skim milk. Either way, with a bit of sweetener.
  • Pathetic? Human. I'd bet big bucks ain't none of us, incuding those of us who are now maintaining, who hasn't backslid, hasn't eaten huge amounts of something, whether that's two of the biggest cheeseburgers at wherever and a giant fries, or that whole bag of cookies or Halloween candies, or a full jar of marshmallow…
  • Once you hit maintenance, just see how it works. If you're worried about eating back your exercise calories, don't. If you find yourself still losing, try eating them all back. If you find the trend (not daily, but overall trend) is upward, reduce the percentage of exercise calories you eat back. You'll eventually figure…
  • @sandrachis Very cool. And yes, treat yourself on essentials. @acorsaut89 Seeing the different ways people treat you makes those true friends even more valued, no? I'm sure you've told them, too. :) @tatirod Great attitude, gal! You can do it. There will always be some people who turn you down. You have to learn to do what…
  • @ 1Nana2many You are rockin! Doesn't it feel grand when you realize your old jeans can slide down over your hips without unbuttoning them? :) I'm another who'll have to weigh, measure and log from now on. Yup, staying honest. I've gotten pretty good at eyeballing amounts, but I still weigh and measure a lot, just to check.…
  • Clearly, I disagree with Carnhot about legitimate chocolate. :) If one has 150 to 200 calories remaining at the end of the day, whatever you choose to use them for is legitimate. Me, I find that keeping half an eye out for a couple/few squares of Really Good chocolate as a day's-end treat helps me stay within bounds.
  • Probably ain't none of us haven't fallen off the wagon. You've lost it before. You can lose it again.
