That only happens to me when I have too many simple carbs. If I keep my protein up and simple carbs and refined sugars in check, I don't get that raging hunger. If I do partake, that raging hunger comes back and the feeling might last through the next day until my body readjusts, but I just power through it and by the…

I haven't read all the posts, so I apologize if I'm repeating something someone already said. Do you have Aldi or Trader Joe's in Canada? They are budgetary lifesavers. Particularly Aldi. Their produce is perfectly fine and tends to be far cheaper than anywhere else, as are most of their other products. They also have…

Congratulations. I'm sorry you can't revel in it like you thought you probably would. This sounds a little like skinny fat might be going on here. Time to start lifting!

It's not a bad suggestion to find an event. I trained like a crazy woman for the Lung Association's Fight for Air fundraising stair climb. And ate NO junk during training. Couldn't let the folks that contributed down and couldn't embarrass myself at the event! It kept me in check for weeks and weeks and was the most fit…

I'm really worried about using free weights at the gym because I don't trust myself on form. But lifting as hard as I can on machines doesn't worry me as much. In light of my concern, a very knowledgeable friend told me that if I don't plan to ever get a trainer (which I don't) in addition to the machines, I should lift…

Honestly? I just forget about it. If I try to make up for it, it's either too much exercise or I'm starving. I just resume business as usual starting with the next meal.

The Ozeri Pro. It's wicked cheap right now.

Ha! I'd say only about eleventy million or so.

Holy ditto!

Don't be silly. That was last Sunday.

Second opinion. There's nothing wrong with getting one.

Ditto galgenstrick's post.

Being brutally honest with ourselves is the only way to succeed to the finish. So with no need to answer to us at all, I would recommend taking a look at your diary entries one by one and ask the question only to yourself, "do I TRULY and HONESTLY believe that this entry only had a few calories or was that wishful thinking…

OMG, Tricia - Amazing. And where did you get that adorable black & white swimsuit on Huffpost? I want one!

Just take it one day (or hour or minute) at a time. Before you know it a week will be behind you and you'll be back on track.

Disagree. And I thought the opposite and that it explained things in simple terms rather than saying "complex carbohydrates are preferred over simple carbohydrates as the glycemic index tends to be lower, therefore raising your insulin level in less drastic ways, not to mention that they tend to be more nutrient dense."…

All I know, OP, is that the word "stupidize" is the greatest gift to my vocabulary since "amazeballs." And for that, I thank you.

You could always wait a week to weigh yourself after if you can stand it. Then you won't see the fluctuation from the one day. Have a wonderful birthday!!!

*Completely loses interest in this thread and drifts off into a fantasy of what life would be like if 3000 calories a day was my maintenance...*

I always log the best I can (now on MFP, before in a notebook). It takes time, but it's worth it. What I do is order wisely if that's an option and then break everything down into its individual components. For example, I will log a salad as the amount of lettuce, the amount of cucumber, the amount of olives, the amount of…

I agree with the others. It sounds like you're putting all kinds of pressure on yourself to do everything at once. You can start with diet, for example, and then focus on exercise more down the road. It is overwhelming if you look at the whole "project" but if you take the "one day at a time" or even "one hour at a time"…

I'm gonna vote for red wine. You sip it slowly and it has at least a reputation of having some health benefits and the glycemic index is low. And I'm a hiker too and agree with the others - you burn a bazillion calories on the hikes I do sometimes, but that is no match for a cheeseburger and fries if I were to have that…

It stunned me how few calories are in grapes, cherries, strawberries and blueberries compared to other snack-y items. They are my snacks of choice lately because not only are they all full of good nutrients, but they are so great this time of year.

Here's a tip for when temptation strikes: If unhealthy or high calorie food is at the office or being offered to me, I will absolutely not do it if it is something that I could go out and buy for myself anytime I wanted to. It almost always keeps me from indulging "just because it's there." The only time I will indulge is…

I like having a few slices of lean deli turkey or lean ham with a big piece of lettuce on top of each, I spread a little hummus on each one and roll 'em up. I've done it with ham and swiss with spicy brown mustard too, but that's a bit higher on the calorie side.
