  • I'm SO glad you mentioned this, it never occurred to me.
  • The good news is...the best thing for healing is lots of protein...your appetite might be reduced due to pain meds...you won't be able to run to the store for junk food, so if you stock up on fruits & veggies, that's what you'll have on hand...if physical therapy is part of your recovery, it will get you back in the habit…
  • Can you get your parents on board with having healthier choices available and not bringing a lot of junk food in the house? My go-to snack in the summer is watermelon...filling, satisfying, sweet & not too calorific. I leave some calories for evening snacks. As for running, maybe change at work & run right after work, or…
  • Are you getting enough protein? With a vegan diet plus breastfeeding, you may be very low on protein intake. Talk to your doctor about what you need to maintain during breastfeeding. My nails, hair and skin have been fantastic since I upped my protein.
  • I recently went through a hip replacement recovery, and my emphasis was on plenty of protein (rotisserie chickens from the grocery were easy & versatile, and my friends could pick one up for me every few days), iron supplements & vitamins for good bone/muscle recovery, and diligent but gentle physical therapy sessions. Ice…
  • Above all, don't let it discourage you from continuing on a weight loss plan. Set up your MFP profile, establish your weight loss rate and calorie goal, log your food accurately, drink plenty of water, and stick with it. If you still don't see any results in a few more weeks, adjust your calorie goal slightly downward or…
  • OP is apparently a competitive swimmer, so yeah, those 8 pounds are important.
  • You can eat anything if it fits (or maybe slightly exceeds, as it's a special occasion) your calorie goals. Look up some of your typical festival foods in the MFP database beforehand so you can make an informed decision. Lots of my favs are total calorie bombs (760 for a funnel cake, 300 for an Orange Julius...ack!). Most…
  • In addition to choosing your food wisely, choose your FRIENDS wisely. Gravitate towards others who put fitness & healthy eating as a priority, and minimize time with those who want to sit around drinking and overindulging on pizza, sweets & fries. Develop the habit of doing some activity with your friends, even if it's…
  • Make sure you are drinking water before, during & after your workout, make sure you don't do your workout on an empty stomach (just something light), and make sure you are getting enough sodium & potassium in your diet. Definitely mention it to your doc if it continues.
  • Sounds like daughter's school & your work are fairly close to home...start parking a few blocks away & walk the rest of the way. Great way to spend some Mommy & Me time w daughter, plus get her in fun exercise habits, and it won't make you have to rise too much earlier. Definitely after your partner goes to sleep, do…
  • Will you be happy this time next year if you are 30 or 40 pounds heavier? Do you feel tired because you are not eating nutritious foods to fuel the energy you need for school and work? Can you & your new honey make a commitment to take a short, invigorating walk 2 or 3 days a week, or before you settle in for your Netflix?…
  • Fingernails are primarily protein. Check your macros for adequate protein. My nails used to flake & crack, but since I've been more concientious about my protein intake, they are strong & growing like crazy.
  • I mix brown rice or quinoa in with white rice to stretch the budget but still get the health benefits of other grains. If it will mask the taste enough for you, you could do the same with legumes. Lots of veggies in season, look for "seconds" in produce dept, and whatever meat is on sale. Food banks or discount grocery…
  • If she knows you are preparing to move out, she may be willing to share her recipes/teach you to cook them so you can have a ready file to pull from once you are on your own...she hopefully will be flattered that you like her cooking so much you want to be able to make the same dishes (you can always adjust the recipes for…
  • Congratulations, well done! Love the new haircut, too...very cute!
  • Wow, your legs look so toned! Fantastic! Be sure to tell Granny thanks for her bluntness, lol...sometimes we really need that wake-up call to get our lives back on track.
  • Fantastic. Keeping your children from a lifetime of weight-related health problems is probably one of the most important things you can do. And if your family is eating healthier because of your example and your food preparation, then you have already made a tremendous impact. Well done, and keep up the good work!
  • Call & ask the nurse or receptionist ... they may be able to get you set up with a dietitician right away. After all, you don't have much time left! You probably won't be eating at a deficit because you and your baby both have higher nutritional needs right now...you just need to be sure you're eating good nutritional…
  • For me, a high-protein, slightly sweet snack (cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, or even 1/2 cup of vanilla ice cream) helps the headachy shaky feeling I sometimes got during the first few weeks. Six weeks on, I don't have a problem as long as I spread my calories throughout the day. If you took a big drop in calories from WW…
  • Since your foot makes two movements for every step (first a heel strike, then a push off the ball of the foot), it makes sense that the Fitbit wouldn't give you an accurate step count compared to the single jolt your body makes during a step.
  • Let him cook occasionally and just work it into your calories. Skimp on the sauce for your portion & ask him to leave the cheese off your burger. Appreciate the fact that he wants to cook even if it doesn't fit perfectly into your plan! If you cook, put sauce or cheese on the side for him if that's what he likes. Load on…
  • If you don't cook, pick up a rotisserie chicken & a big salad-bar salad (load it up with all kinds of good stuff) for a delicious easy meal. Remove the skin (except the wings are a special treat) & dig in! Slice any leftover chicken for sandwiches for the next day, bulking them out with tomato & greens. Or add diced…
  • Ok, you have GOT to post the recipe for that soup ... it sounds delicious!
  • I don't have much appetite in the morning, but evenings can be difficult for me, too. I started moving all my meal times later ... a light snack in morning, breakfast 10-11ish, lunch 2ish, dinner 7ish. Then I still have calories for a few decent late-night snacks. Greek yogurt with a topping of fresh fruit, or a bag of…

  • Why don't you try setting your activity level at Lightly Active and use the adjusted calorie goal .... plus be diligent about weighing your food. See if that helps.
  • And make it a Burrito Salad instead of the regular Burrito. Load it with veggies & salsa for flavor. Enjoy!
  • Sunsweet snack-size pitted dried plums/prunes ... only 25 cals, 3g sugar, high in calcium & potassium. Pop 3 or 4 a day as snacks. Did the trick for me after recent surgery.
  • When I don't feel like cooking, my go-to weekly shopping includes rotisserie chicken (local Sam's club has delicious whole chickens for $4.88), a huge salad from the salad bar at the grocery, prepared mashed potatoes (usually in the meat section), steamable bags of veggies, and other fresh-prepared store items. It might…
  • Best post ever! LOL!!
