  • I work from home now and then. My activity level is not the problem, I'm more active wfh than in the office, and able to make more of my fitness classes. But FOOD. Oh my... food food everywhere. When I go TO work, I only eat what I portioned for myself in my lunch bag. But at home I have the whole damn fridge at my disposal
  • I use "circuit training, general." Or, for something like you're doing, use "aerobics, high impact" especially if your heart rate stays up there. It's all about the same anyway.

  • I've been working on pull ups by jumping, catching the bar, and pulling myself up. I can usually manage one more after that from ALMOST a dead stop. My goal is to be able to do a few from a dead stop at bottom, but for now I'm proud of myself. Pretty handy move for when I'm swinging through the jungle and whatnot
  • SW: 156 CW: 125 TW: 125! Even though I've reached TW, I'm still losing a bit (scale is fluctuating downward), so I'm working on determining the maintenance cals. Sure is nice to start ADDING calories and watching what happens on the scale. Just this whole exercise is a reward.
  • Literally so obvious, yet I never thought of it. Thanks everyone.
  • Yeah, that's my overall theory of everything MFP. I overestimate food, underestimate exercise. But this is my sweet corn addiction we're talking about. It's no time to play games. I need to strive for a maximum intake here. haha
  • Kettlebells are great. Hit YouTube for ideas. You get more of a full body workout, but you definitely exert your arms. But because you involve so many muscle groups, it really gets your heart rate up there.
  • Thanks, this helps. You know, every day I'm silently shaking my head at her posts but then I thought, well maybe I'm wrong, I don't really know anything about it. (But I'd never ask her!)
  • Wait, what? Look at my diary. I think anyone who is genuinely starving would be thanking God for my regular menu. I'm sure you researched that statement, so I'm going to go ahead and give you the benefit of the doubt. But trust me when I tell you, I am not starving. I'm not even hungry. I do 1500 cals to maintain + I eat…
  • I think there are different levels of walking. I think you can get a decent workout by walking if you push yourself. No leisurely stroll. Put on your workout clothes and walk as far and as fast as you can. Get sweaty and a little out of breath. Like running, speed and endurance will vary and will improve based upon your…
  • That really was a giant beer, in Grand Cayman. Pretty heavy, too. Pic shows off my "beer lifting muscles."
  • I don't think all steps are created equal, you know? I can get a ton of steps in shopping, for example, and I don't believe for one minute that it is a significant calorie burn. A nice fast, uphill/downhill hike will burn some real calories. Try an app like Runkeeper which tracks and calculates calories based on speed,…
  • Oh just to clarify, this was a real life "friend," nobody here! That would truly shock me, we are cool people! Again, thank you all for your wise and kind words. It was just such an odd comment.
  • You are all full of wise words, thanks so much. I never did this for appearances. I just like to feel light and strong.
  • I hear ya and that thought is exactly what her comment triggered in my mind. I'm going for "fit" not "skinny" here. I'm naturally petite - really small ring size, no boobs (unfortunately), etc., so this is where my body naturally goes. But you're not wrong. Thanks for the kind words.
  • Tracking on MFP is exactly what keeps me eating normally and healthily. Otherwise, I'd have to keep track of it in my mind and I have other things to think about. Logging food allows me to see when I can throw in treats, when I should not. When I've been eating poorly, etc. If you can keep track of those things in your…
  • If my period stopped, that would REALLY bother me. I'd feel like I did something to really *kitten* up my body. I believe strongly in overall health which comes from plain old taking care of yourself. Eat right, exercise, sleep well, rest, play. Balance. Perhaps on your "rest" days just walk or something so you don't feel…
  • The OP seems young, most of us here are in pretty good shape, but keep in mind that this can be very dangerous advice for the general public. Heat stroke is a thing, as are undiagnosed heart issues. Maybe I'm a baby, but when I run, I'm out there on my own. I'm in great shape, but I'm 45 years old. So I have that nagging…
  • This, exactly. I read nothing rude into anything she did. She stood up for herself, and that is absolutely necessary. She was courteous without being a pushover. It's easy for a woman to feel vulnerable at a gym. Just vulnerable to scrutiny or anything. We have to be strong and, as ANY time a woman acts strong, she is seen…
  • And this is where I defend MFP's exercise calorie counts, to some extent. I always hear how MFP overestimates exercise calories. But I did the 1200 calorie thing for a year and was only able to do it because I exercise a lot and ate back those calories that MFP said I burned. I only truly ate 1200 calories on days that I…
  • I became able to do pull ups by using a bar at my gym that sticks out from the wall. I'd jump and kick off the wall to assist myself up. After a while, it became enough just to jump and pull up. I think the momentum of the jump helped. Now I'm just starting to be able to do real pull ups from a stationary position.
  • I have access to a nice trail system where I can hike with my dog off leash. That's my favorite thing right now. I run the trails if it's not too hot. If it is too hot, I'm afraid she will overheat. She's a very loyal dog and will not stop until I do. And I don't have fur, so.... Anyway, that's my thing.
  • You're probably doing burpees as part of a longer high intensity workout, so just log the entire workout as circuit training and be done with it. I mean...unless you ARE doing burpees for a half hour. In which case, may the force be with you. And log it as high intensity aerobics. It's in the database
  • Sitting has become less comfortable because I have pretty much no padding anymore. Lost a boob size. That kind of stinks, but oh well. Fat is fat. Lost a half shoe size. Thought that was weird. And I'm convinced that I'm a better runner NOT because I'm in better shape, although I am. It's because I'm hauling 30 fewer…
  • Also LOVE Les Mills classes. This sounds stupid, but I'm a big music fan so the way the workouts are formatted around songs just somehow makes sense to me in my mind. Like... work hard the duration of a song, quick break, reset, next song. Know what I mean? I do Combat, Pump, Body Step. And, when I'm feeling lazy, I love a…
  • Use "circuit training - general," eat back about half-75%, then call it a day. None of this is exact.
  • Chocolate deprivation will do that to you ;) I eat chocolate Every. Single. Day. One square of really dark, really high-quality chocolate. 50 calories or so. It's nothing.
  • I'm so off and on with running, but you're right about the calorie burn. When I start in on a running program, it's like my body says "oh crap, we're gonna do THIS now? I better drop some of these pounds." I got bored with running down the road, so I recently started trail running. I'd been hiking on some of these…
  • If anyone had seen me do it, I'd say punching myself in the face during BodyCombat
