There are very few things that help burn fat other than just eating fewer calories than you burn. It's more likely a waste of money than anything.

it can be difficult. Don't be afraid to ask them to cook without butter or oils. i like the idea of cutting things in half. Share with someone, etc.

So I'd second, third and fourth the advice on here. I played around it he gym for many years and never knew dieting well. Once I really figured out 1 calorie deficit is the only way to lose and lifting is the best way to gain muscle, transform your body, etc there is not looking back. Don't wait start now, lift heavy, eat…

I love the posts that say I know this is wrong so don't tell me it is, but I want to do it anyway so tell me how. We are really here to help people have a healthy sustainable diet and lifestyle. You are going to get what people know is the right way to do things.

I think you heard most of the answers.. One you can't really do anything to hit your stomach over other areas.. You can only continue to lose weight and drop your body fat levels. Two it sounds like you will have to figure out a better way to log so you know for sure exactly what you are eating. If you keep at it you will…

I weigh every morning after I pee and naked. Know that weight loss isn't linear and jumps around. I track my 7 day average as well which smooths out the bumps and lets you see where you are actually headed.
-
I set my macros and then if it fits my macros I eat it. I eat everything really, but keep my fat intake decently low.
-
I'm no doctor but it sounds like food is a comfort and maybe you can find other things to replace food. Walking, gym, punching bag... something?? I'm sure that is a huge over simplification, but there you have it.
-
Sounds like you are spot on!!

I'm not super worried about my final weight more interested in body fat, lean muscle, etc. I expect I will probably end up around 180 or so when I move to maintenance. 5'8" age 48 SW 237 CW 196 GW??? around 12% bf so I'm guessing 180 or so.

Absolutely 95% of weight loss is done in the kitchen not the gym. You can lose weight without exercise. Exercise is good for you and can help you maintain muscle, but certainly isn't required. Just getting yourself in a calorie deficit is all you need.

This is an interesting read on the subject. http://easacademy.org/trainer-resources/article/intermittent-fasting I think you will find that so long as you're in a caloric deficit you will lose weight and the methods including IF make really no difference scientifically to that. However if it works for you and gives you a…

I am more interested in appearance and body fat than I am with the actual weight. I have however over time figured out where I think my weight will probably end up.

Wow how did having a partner that liked to work out and be fit turn into this??
-
Doesn't seem to affect me at all.

I sit in a desk job as well.. it's not about your activity nearly as much as what you eat. Weight loss is 90% kitchen.

@Spliner1969 cheers!

I'm sorry that is right, I left out one critical part and that is the deficit from TDEE. I keep mine flat but my calories are based on a 20% deficit from my TDEE. TDEE technically means total daily burn including everything so be careful talking about TDEE without exercise.
-
I like where @Spliner1969 is taking you. What I would do if come up with your TDEE including exercise, set your calories based on that and keep it flat. You can adjust up or down based on what you see over time. If you were losing weight you were on the right track.. It's not uncommon for weight to drop off fast in the…

Making your abs come out is all about losing some fat and to do that you have to be in a calorie deficit. I usually plan my day mostly in the morning. I put my dinner in and back into the rest of my stuff. I work to meet my macro nutrients and thus calories. I would still suggest high protein levels to minimize the muscle…
-
Not sure how long you were on the diet when you changed, but what did you see as far as your body went? Did you lose weight eating calories set to active level? If so stick with it.. if not you have your answer.
-
You can be overweight on anything if you eat too many calories..
-
I'm not a fan of low carb diets, but it makes no difference when you eat them in the day. It really all boils down to the calories you put in and the calories you burn.
-
I weigh every morning right when I get up, pee, weigh naked. I keep a daily log of it and then also track my 7 day running average. The thing to keep in mind is weight loss is not linear. You will fluctuate day to day. I measure a few areas from time to time just to see what's going on there.

MFP has great smart phone apps as well if you have one.

My wife and I work out together, meal prep together, support and pick each other up when we have a "fat" day. It's really the most amazing help ever. I don't think we would have come so far without each other and it's a great hobby, for us both too.

great job!!! Inspiration for everyone.
-
I'm sure everyone worries from time to time. Even when you know you are dong things right and you don't drop like you might expect just stick to it. There is no linear path to weigh loss. The body will bounce, water weight changes, menstrual cycles affect things.. If you weigh and track all your food and you know what your…
-
You can do this!!! One day at a time. Best of luck!!

I mostly log in the morning what I'm going to do for the day, sometimes I get the next day going. I update it sometimes through the day or change things. It helps me a lot if I start with my dinner and evening snack and then back into the rest of the day.. o
