  • Only competitive eaters I've ever seen here in Australia are the Americans on pay tv channels and those dudes are like 400lb rednecks so I'm not sure what you're referring to.
  • You know what? Doesn't even matter if troll post. It's still an interesting point of view and it totally happens. People lose a lot of weight, their lives change, they get more attention, they turn into @ssh0les. Also becoming obsessed with exercise and appearance and shutting out friends who don't share those interests -…
  • You absolutely do eat protein with fat (ask anyone who does a low carb/keto diet) and it's a bit hard not to have sugar with carbs when sugar IS carbs. Seems legit >.>
  • I don't feel ugly in sleeveless tops anymore, and I have collar bones. I think I dress nicer than I did, because nicer clothes are available when you can buy off the rack standard sizes, not plus size where everything looks like a wheat bag (some with flowers).
  • It does get harder as you get older. Have you considered low carb? Works for a lot of older guys because they can still eat meat and bacon and eggs and such, and health wise cutting out the sugar is a really good idea as you get older. Have a look at www.dietdoctor.com and see what you think. There's also a really good…
  • I have 6 resting days - I ride my horse once a week. Most weeks. I've lost 90lbs.
  • Drink when you're thirsty - there is no mandated amount of water you have to drink every day. Even my dog can manage to do this without dying of dehydration. And it doesn't have to be water. Tea, coffee, soup, diet soda, water in foods all count.
  • I've lost 90lbs. I've had no support, everyone around me keeps doing their thing regardless of my desire to lose weight (as well they should). My fiancé is a big snacker and eats whatever he wants. My philosophy is "you do you" as in it's none of my business what he sticks in his mouth, and it's none of his business what I…
  • Scales are going to vary, that's a fact. It's up to you how you deal with it. If you must weigh yourself, find a set of scales at a gym or a pharmacy that you can access once a week or once a month even and use those exclusively.
  • Sounds wrong. I am 5'10" and 185lb and I need to eat 1430 to lose weight.
  • Are fruits and vegetables good for you? Sure. Are they calorie free? No. Also fruit is high in sugar and the calories add up really quickly. A banana has 130 calories for example (depending on size). You should absolutely log it. If it's not water, or ice, it should go in your diary.
  • I'm 42 and I've lost 90lbs. I did it slowly though. At some points along the way my tummy was saggy and jiggly but it tightened up over time. About 6 months ago I had a line going down from my belly button, and a bit of "mothers apron" overhang but that's mostly gone now.
  • I do not agree that 'getting into fitness' is a great idea for someone who is underweight. Developing healthy eating habits and gaining a little weight first would be a good idea. There's always the danger of 'fitness' becoming a distraction to the point of obsession, and making it impossible to gain weight due to burning…
  • I get out in the fresh air and ride my horse for stress relief. When I get sad I jam those feelings right down where they belong and pretend everything's fine. And then get annoyed that no one asks me how I am or assumes I'm not sad.
  • Chobani = yuck. We even bought their brank tzatziki on the weekend and it was equally gross. Other brands of greek yoghurt are fine though. I don't buy the fruit ones, but I do like the plain greek yoghurt for cooking. Makes a nice chicken curry.
  • You won't make any health changes "fast". Do a bit at a time, take the pressure off yourself. There are a lot of things you can eat that have huge calories in a small portion. Nut butters, oil and butter to cook with, avocados, anything high fat. If you're dealing with depression I assume you're seeing a counsellor. If…
  • Oh, I've got another one. When your boss brings her 3yo into the office and sits her at a spare desk with colouring in and then goes to a meeting. An hour of "can you colour in with me" and "where's my mum" - I don't even like kids and I don't get paid enough for this BS.
  • Trendy and restrictive? Lol. I have eaten Keto for over 4 years. It is neither trendy OR restrictive. It's just meat and veg and fats and eggs and fish and dairy and other regular foods - you can even have cake or muffin or pancake if you want - lots of almond flour recipes. If I go out to dinner I have a steak and a glass…
  • I'm 42 and I spent 4 years having my period 3 weeks of the month (was totally regular and under 4 days a month prior to this). Sometimes really heavy and sometimes barely there but enough to be gross, annoying and inconvenient. Tried different forms of birth control, nothing helped - in fact the pill just made me hormonal…
  • Neither. I'm lazy. Unless you count riding my horse as cardio? Especially when I have to hike 1km up a massive hill to go get her.
  • 28lbs in a week is crazy. I think if you want to get healthier long term you need to do a couple of things. Set realistic expectations (obviously you won't lose this amount every week - a couple of lbs is a normal amount). Find a way of eating you can do FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE. Because this is what will make the…
  • It's taken me 4 years to lose 90lbs. At times I've had that line down the middle of my tummy from my belly button, but then it tightens up and goes away. I also had a bit of "mothers apron" sag at the bottom of my tummy but that's also gone away as I've lost more weight. I think losing slowly really helps, gives your skin…
  • Mines been fine. Just pull the item further away and then closer again until it focuses. I have noticed though, you always need to check what the app matches to the barcode. The other day I had something I scanned and it was an Australian product and it bought up some US product brand I'd never even heard of.
  • Not sure. I don't feel more attractive, even though I'm down 90lbs. Everything is so much more squishy than it used to be. My boobs are like deflated balloons (and yet I'm somehow still a G cup). We do seem to have sex more often though, I think he is possibly more interested. But then maybe not, I was 90lbs heavier when…
  • I did it for 20 years. I don't do it anymore, haven't for over 4 years. For me it was the struggle with restriction, being hungry, being resentful that I couldn't just eat when I was hungry, and finally my will power would break and I'd eat all the things. Going low carb saved me. I no longer struggle with the hunger, or…

  • I paid for a year - $65 here in Australia. Mainly because you can set your macros at exact grams rather than being forced to use % at 5 increments. And also because now I've paid for it for a year, I have to use it for a year, I'm committed to it. Is it worth it? I don't think it is, really. I mean I still get high carb…
  • Hi, I don't exercise either, by choice. I do ride my horse once a week, and I walk to the bus stop and back but basically I'm lazy. I've still lost 90lbs. All you need to do is set your activity level to "sedentary" in MFP. I'm 5'10", 42yo and currently 185lb and this still gives me 1450 calories. I eat a bit more on the…
  • This is exactly the problem with "going on a diet" to lose "X kg by a certain date". People who lose weight, and then maintain that new healthy weight (or those who never get fat to begin with) are those who adopt a healthy way of eating. For life. No one, ever, lost weight and kept it off "going on a diet".
  • Me too. Pre-diabetic with a prognosis of doom and gloom from my Dr at 38. I'm now 42 (nearly 43) with no sign of diabetes. 4 years low carb has saved my life. Edited to say I don't exercise other than riding my horse once a week (more like once a month in winter), and my diabetes markers were reversed 6 months into low…
