Things I have learned during 4 years of Keto
In no particular order ... 1. Read labels - the per 100g bit not the per serve bit. A lot of products will scream 0 carb - but it's only 0 carb per serve. 2. A serve of nuts is not many. 3. Keto is great for health (diabetes, inflammation, epilepsy, long term food control issues, migraines to name a few) but it is NOT…

Type 2 Diabetes - my story.
Type 2 diabetes has affected my dad and 9 of his siblings. All of my uncles and aunties have it, and my cousin who is 45 and has never been overweight in her life now has it. My dad was diagnosed at 40 and had his first heart attack and quadruple bypass at 50. His specialists told him diabetes destroyed his arteries in…

UA Band
Anyone have one of these? I'm assuming because MFP is underarmor that they work seamlessly together? Thoughts?

Fat bomb help
I melted some coconut oil, butter, peanut butter and cocoa together until it was liquid but not hot. Stirred in a softened packet of cream cheese and the mix went thick and lumpy, almost curdled. Anyone know why? I set them in small moulds in the freezer and they taste ok, but the texture is not smooth. I would have…

Fitbit Blaze?
I sold my Apple Watch as it never worked with MyFitnessPal. On it's own it was fine but it's no good to me if it doesn't sync my workouts. So I'm looking at replacing it with a fitbit blaze. Any feedback? I'd be interested to know how well they work with MyFitnessPal specifically. TIA

Samsung gear fit 2
Before I include it in my short list, does the gear fit 2 work with iphone 7 and MyFitnessPal?

Macros in grams v's percentage
This was going to be a reply to another post, but it's important enough to have it's own post. So many people seem confused. I don't pretend to know everything but I have been keto for 4 years and I have read all of the popular literature/websites on the subject - as well as a fair bit of trial and error. You should always…

Looking for Low Carb - NOT KETO - friends with open diaries
After 4 years of keto I am moving towards a more relaxed approach. 50 - 70g of carbs a day. About 1450 calories. No saturated fats (only avocado, fish, olive oil etc). No bread/pasta/rice/potato or sugary foods, just more vegetables and fibre. Looking for friends who eat low carb but not to keto levels and willing to share…

Apple Watch help
I bought an Apple Watch yesterday. I have installed MFP on it, linked it all up, going into all of the devices and apps and allowed read/write permission. I've ticked the steps setting in MFP. I can see the data from MFP on my watch. But it shows 0 steps. In the Apple Health app it shows steps but not in MFP. It also…

Calories in Seafood Laksa no noodles?
Today is my last day in my current job. I'm going out for lunch with the finance team, where I started. We're going to an Asian place in the markets, and I'm going to get a Laksa (something I normally would never eat, but hey). Paul assures me you can get a Laksa with no noodles, so I figure that will minimise the damage,…

Corticosteroid injection, any experience?
I had two of these in the past, a few years ago as I had that dreaded fat girl affliction - Plantars Fasciitis. It helped the first time but didn't do much the second time. Last Tuesday morning I had an ultrasound on my hip due to ongoing pain in the joint. There's mild inflammation/bursitis. The doctor gave me a steroid…

Cauliflower rice - Australia
I was just telling my fiancé yesterday on the way to do shopping how you guys in the US have access to all these low carb products that we don't get here in Aus, such as pre-riced cauliflower. And then we went in to Woolworths, and right there in the vegetable section where they sell the bags of lettuce and coleslaw mix…

Facelift? Or reverse facelift? :D
First photo is about 18 months ago. It's blurry because I hate photos and it was a forced pose at a family dinner that was later posted on Facebook, and cropped by me for the purpose of comparison. The second one is a bad selfie last night after I got a fresh new undercut. Strangely I think I look better now, I have a…

Chicken rub. Paprika etc?
Looking for ideas. I did a chicken breast in the air fryer last night, rubbed garlic and smokey paprika on it, cooked it and served it with tzatziki. It was really good. So it got me to thinking, what else can I rub on the chicken prior to cooking? What do you guys use? Only caveat - no sugary marinades, I'm low carb.

Australian Question
After 4 years of Keto I've relaxed things a bit and I'm now on 50 - 75g carbs a day. Hopefully still low enough to head off type 2 diabetes but allows me to get in more high fibre foods to hopefully bring my cholesterol down - while avoiding saturated fats. It's a complicated dance. I have been incorporating these into my…

Skin/Body doing wierd things
Yesterday 84.2kg smooth skin on my belly and thighs Today 84.2kg wrinkled/saggy skin on my belly and thighs I have that little line going down from my belly button, which I haven't had for about 6 months. I thought the skin had smoothed out and shrunk back to where it belongs, but today it's all saggy again. Why? I could…

High Iron count? Anyone experience this?
I had blood tests last week and my iron was high. The Doctor said it wasn't good, but I forgot to get more information - I was more worried about the high cholesterol result. Anyone know what causes high iron? What are the risks? Should I be worried? Apparently giving blood can help bring it down - I have an appointment to…

Cholesterol Help
Guys I need help. I switched to Keto 4 years ago after a pre-diabetic diagnosis. Diabetes killed my Dad. Today I'm 42yo, and have no signs of glucose issues. I've also lost 87lbs. Last year I had blood tests and my cholesterol was 6.2. They put you on medication at 6.5. I asked them to wait, told them I was losing weight,…

Pre-diabetic/Type 2 Question
I switched to Keto 4 years ago after being diagnosed as pre-diabetic. The good news is that I have effectively reversed that diagnosis eating this way, the bad news is that eating bacon and having butter and cream in my coffee every day has driven my cholesterol levels sky high. Is there anyone in this group doing low carb…

Low carb lower fat
Hi Guys, anyone who is eating say 50 - 80g carbs and 50 - 60g (not saturated) fat able to share their diary with me? Trying to switch from keto level carbs and high fat to something a bit healthier and need ideas. At the moment I'm eating chicken breast and low fat cottage cheese because I'm too scared to eat anything else.

For those who say you don't need to count calories
I have been around the traps for a while. I've been strict keto for over 4 years. I've learned all the lessons about how much protein, the effects of fibre and artificial sweeteners etc. I've lost 85lbs. But I've still had to work the calories. I track every single day. Some days I have as many as 40g of carbs now, but I…

Uncomfortable bones ...
Not sure if this is weight or age related. I've lost 85lbs over a long period. I'm nearly 43. My shoulder blade, hip and seat bones on the left side of my body only have become uncomfortable. It's not quite pain, but I can't sit comfortably in the car, or on the lounge chair, and I can't sleep on my left side. It's that…

Coconut flour?
Our supermarket had coconut flour out for 99c a bag last week, so my OH got 4 bags. I haven't used it before, I rarely make keto baked goods and if I do I use almond flour. I found a good recipe online for coconut flour peanut butter cookies and made a batch. I made 12 fair size ones and they came in at 200 calories each…

Fish oil grrr
So I went to the Dr today about joint pain. Have to have some scans but he's pretty sure by the clicking and grinding in my knees it's arthritis. I'm 42. He says I have to take fish oil. 5 capsules a day. They have 20 calories each. So that's 100 cals out of my 1400 I can't eat now. What kind of crap is this.

Sweet William Chocolate - explain
I have a 50g bar of Sweet William Chocolate. I'm low carb. It's a rare treat. Please tell me why, if it says on the packet "2 serves of 25g" - why does the bar have lines on it to break into 5 pieces? Shouldn't it be 4? Or 6? Or 2? What kind of troll is this?

CICO huh?
Riddle me this. My calorie target is set to 1460 (used to be 1700 - but I've lost about 37kg). I'm 5'10" and 87kg so 1460 is fine. I wear a Misfit Shine (like a fitbit). It syncs with MFP and does the calorie adjustment based on activity. MFP is set to sedentary to allow for this. The Misfit seems pretty accurate (based on…

"I can't eat all my calories omg what do"
Seriously, you see these posts every day "Hi, I'm Sharon, I used to weigh 300lbs and consume 4000 calories a day but now I'm on a diet I can't force myself to eat 1200 calories, I'm full after 800 - 1000" I don't think so. What is the aim of these posts exactly? Is it attention? I mean, a snickers bar is 250 calories. 20g…

Going out to dinner - celebration
Got a phone call yesterday to offer me a job I had applied for. It's a role I feel very passionate about (working in disability), and it's a mobile office based role, so some time working at home, and some time going out to families. Much better than my 9 to 5 in the city - no more bus and I'll be able to wear trackies to…

Cauliflower recipes feedback
OK, so I'm a pretty great cook. I'd say my skill level is "advanced", and I can certainly follow a recipe. I had two beautiful fresh white cauliflowers, so Sunday I made two things. A whole roasted cauliflower slathered in garlic and butter and parmesan - which took forever to cook and was a massive disappointment. Didn't…
