Uncomfortable bones ...

Not sure if this is weight or age related. I've lost 85lbs over a long period. I'm nearly 43. My shoulder blade, hip and seat bones on the left side of my body only have become uncomfortable. It's not quite pain, but I can't sit comfortably in the car, or on the lounge chair, and I can't sleep on my left side. It's that discomfort like if you press on one place on your skin against the bone it makes you squirm. It has developed over the last 12 months or so, and is finally to the point that I can't ignore it. I have a doctors appointment, but I guess I'm just curious if anyone else has experienced this?

Of course! You don't have all that padding there. Congrats. Maybe switch to a memory foam mattress.0

But only on one side? I don't think it's normal to experience this much discomfort. Also, we have a good quality mattress. I can't even sit in the lounge without favouring one side.0

To me, it's what comes with losing a lot of weight. Yes, it can happen with just one side. My right side hurts more because that's the side I favor.1

Only on one side doesn't sound like normal weight loss discomfort, probably good you're checking it out with a doc.
Might just be that you need a new mattress though!0 -

This depends on the the said discomfort. Only thing that comes to mind is that you simply sleep side ways on your left side. Most people with acid reflux etc tend to do that while asleep habitually as it helps avoid acid escaping stomach. The pressure from sleeping only on one side could be hurting you on your left side if your bed is tough.
Either case these are all speculations, speak to your doctor as your condition can correlate with many other illnesses with similar symptoms, like Fibromyalgia but could be something else entirely. Hope you get well!1 -
My cure for the loss of padding from fat loss was building up muscle mass. It's a better padding anyway.11

Only on one side sounds like it could be a muscle imbalance. I tend to sit leaning one way (same way) always, unless I check myself, and favor one side naturally, and after exercise or a longer than usual run will tend to have either hamstring or glute soreness (and what manifests as pain from sitting/sit bone soreness) that is one side only.
That wouldn't account for the shoulder blade and hip, though, so good idea to check it out.2 -
Yeah I don't think it's my mattress, that's only 12 months old and was a good, expensive one. I don't favour the left side, I can't even sleep on that side, it gets unbearably uncomfortable after only a minute or two. Lately I can't sleep on my back as even that puts pressure on my left seat bone, and I can't sleep for long on my stomach - which is my preference, as it makes the left side of my rib cage uncomfortable. I tend to sleep on the right side, but even that gets old after a while. Last night took forever to be tired enough to ignore the discomfort and fall asleep. I can't think of anything I do physically that would cause a bias to one side. Doctors appointment tonight, so we'll see what he says.0

Having been fairly thin for most of my adult life (until I was just a couple years younger than you), this does not sounds at all normal to me. Most thin people do not have pain when sleeping just because they are thin. Keep that appt.0

My hip bones stick out when I weigh less. For a few months after I lost weight they seemed very sensitive to clothes or any pressure being on them but that went away for me.0

I would guess you are right dominant. Building your left side muscles to match your right may be helpful.
I sleep on my left and that is my weak side due to an accident when I was young and working on muscle balance helps.
What also helps is using bean bags to support different parts of the body.
Do let us know what the doc said.

Maybe ask about bursitis and arthritis. Bursitis is usually tender to the touch. Arthritis, in my experience, is not tender to the touch but staying in a position for a while causes a lot of discomfort. I can`t sit down for more than 30-60minutes at a time. If I wake up in night I need to get up because of discomfort or I`ll never fall back asleep.
I hope its not but you might want to ask about it.0
