I kind of chose my original goal weight (55 kg) based on BMI but also from my observation of people I know who are about the same height as me (166 cm). Once I reached that I found myself being able to go further (jeans size went from 8 to 6 to 4), and thus I no longer use BMI but my fitness level and my own visual…

If you're talking about math, the number is slightly off but really close (so yeah, not a problem for calculation accuracy). But if you're talking about calorie burn... I'm not sure how they get the conclusion of calculating oxygen use (we need someone who's more professional for this I guess), and this end number looks…

Yay to Asian veggie dish! Snow pea shoot (dou miao) is our favorite! Napa cabbage is another one that can be found in non-Asian grocery stores that we usually cook. Here are some simple ways I manage those leafy veggie: If the leaves are grass-green and pretty soft, like spinach, bean shoot/ sprout, or even ice berg…

I had several of these alternated as my breakfast, plus super diluted coffee with 2% milk/ unsweetened soy milk: 2 Toasted high fiber toast/bagel thins/ light muffin (100 kcal ea) with 1) deli Turkey slice + pepper jack cheese (1 slice) + 1/3 tsp orange/citrous jam + mixed springs (or ice berg lettuce) 2) pepper jack…

There's no good or bad, just difference in efficiency if you're looking for a good chunk of caloric deficit from working out. From my experience, the beat and move design for the song makes huge difference in how much calorie you'd like to burn in a 60-min session. I've been to the Zumba class that made me feel like I was…

I do it like that too. The additional cooking oil shouldn't be part of the raw food (especially for something like eggs). I can't imagine the consequence of underestimating the caloric intake of cooking oil after eating hundreds meals with it, but it's also a hassle to track down every single bit of it because I tend not…

My honest opinion: don't touch the egg roll unless it's not deep-fried. Those are usually made from dough with a mixture of fat and not-so-good quality/quantity veggies and protein followed by deep-frying. I don't mean to ruin the fun of dine-out, just that those are high calorie stuffs and I'd rather spend my calorie…

I like to add fruit too! My new favorite is Chobani (plain) with fresh pomelo. Usually the fruit with high GI value taste the best since they're already sweet (grape, pineapple, or watermelon), but with pomelo it becomes a great snack since it's not only high protein but low calorie!!

I no longer drink whole milk. Got use to 2% and they work really well with anything. I don't like the taste of black coffee so I always need to add something to it. Light, unsweetened soy milk is a good low-cal replacement to 2%, otherwise I use slightly sweetened cocoa powder to make my coffee more enjoyable. I was born…

(All happened during this past weekend) I grabbed the skin 1 inch above my iliac crest on each side & found the thickness has significantly decreased, tensed my ab and saw more muscle definition, and, the highlight of the weekend, I (kind of) motivated my SO to start weight training again!!!

Have you tried just having something light an hour or two before the onset of night hunger (or bedtime)? There are light string cheese (50kcal per bar with 7g of protein!) that doesn't cost too much for your calorie budget and adds some nutrients! (I tried almond too, but it's too yummy... not good as late night snack…

I found not enough protein for dinner or going bed too late might both contribute to greater hunger pain. At least in my situation, a 3-4 hr time interval between the end of dinner (7:30-8pm) and bedtime (11pm-12am) is enough for food to go pass gastric phase (I usually hear a lot of grinding/ bowel movement but not…

I'm the opposite. I successfully lost my final 5 kgs & am able to keep losing weight beyond my original goal weight. I'm from Taiwan and moved to the US ten years ago. It's a major lifestyle change since nothing is "convenient" or within 5-10 min walking distance (I've been living in several non-major cities in US now). I…

11 kg/ 22 lb down and about 1 cm lost on each side. We have skinny calves running in the family (female cousins love it, male cousins hate it). So not much change since I started with 33.5-34 cm.

I track everything I put and keep an eye on how much (out of that major dish) everyone eats (I know, it sounds creepy). But it might be easier for me since there's usually just two people. I also don't make too much since the other person is really picky & doesn't really touch left-overs :| I have a hard time doing that…

Nothing fried, nothing sweet & sour, remove as much sauce as possible (or just ask them to put the sauce on the side), oh, and, if you order something soupy just don't drink the soup. Yeah I'd go with the steamed ones, but be aware of dim-sum or dumpling types of dishes. They tend to have more fat/ seasoning to enhance the…

I kind of understand the mindset for both sides, the healthy and unhealthy ones. Before I have any sort of knowledge about weight-loss, I'd like to try those seemingly fast and effective "magical weight-melting" methods. But when time went by & after multiple failures, I started to do what the professionals would suggest…

It's like dividing your total calorie budget (daily or weekly) into different equal or unequal portions. So that means OP your (1) is not correct. Eating breakfast doesn't mean more calories, cuz it's just the way you plan your total calorie consumption. I personally cannot do day-to-day fasting cuz I get hangry easily,…

Think about those countries where people constantly drink green tea. Do they have weight issues? Yes they do, and it's getting worse (in general) compared to their own stats from 100 years ago. So green tea is a good choice of beverage (if you don't add sugar) when there's no underlying health issue, but no, green tea is…

Or try this (using your hands to estimate food portion). http://www.staywow.com/editor/uploads/files/staywow_hand_guide_portion_control.jpg It's an estimation so the measurement won't be as accurate as food scales, but at least you don't have to worry about bring another item with you for the trip!

Tricolor quinoa is my recent favorite! Also their chicken gyoza potstickers that makes quick meals! Favorite desert from TJ is mango cream bar-- only 60 kcal per bar! Great for a quick sweet-tooth fix :p

I don't blame you, and sorry to say this cuz I found less than five Chinese restaurants that can provide real Chinese food so far in my ten years living in US (that number should be greater since I don't live in a big, major city). If they really know how to cook, even the pea sprouts can be very tasty with just white rice…

I started my weight-loss journey as a teenager, so that's many many many years before I met my SO. I was basically in the same situation as you, OP, for a very long time ( but I'm talking about decades here, lol). I think the greatest lesson I've learned from this experience is, you just need to do whatever pushes you…

I love gym classes... Too bad that there's no good gym near me now. I started with Body Combat as a fresh gym newbie and then aerobic Latin dance, Body Balance, steps, and Zumba. There's a great range of intensity level among the same classes taught by different instructors (I see that more in Zumba, but once a while in…

I'm not sure what kind of exercise you were doing, but I found workouts that utilize core (push-ups, plank, lifting, etc.) help a lot. I used to do lots of cardio and pure core routines but the result was not as obvious as now. Many posts I read from ladies who lift heavy weight said they don't do core as often and the…

Congrats!! Now you have a great motivation for weight-loss and motivation is often what people don't have in order to initiate the process. It could also be a touchy and sensitive topic for them because of that. :)

From what I know, constipation is a result from physical and neurological changes of stimuli (please correct me if I'm wrong). It could happen because of the consistency or the amount of food. Some food tend to physically stimulate the peristalsis and some tend to result in sufficient amount of waste that would both make…

How about flossing & brushing your teeth after regular meals? I know it's inconvenient but that's how it works. It's inconvenient so you wouldn't want to eat anything else after the hard work!

I had the same thing happened about a week or two ago after the most recent update for app. I still don't know how to get it fixed so I'm only using online account to log my exercise... :/

I offered my own tips for successful weight-loss/ new lifestyle for fitness when my family and friends said something like that to me. I dragged them to gym with me and tried whatever I could to make them believe that "they can also do it." But when nothing worked & they recognized their own problems (can't give up on…
