Like everyone has said above... it depends on your goals. Are you trying to have better endurance or improve your strength or grow your muscles orrrr? Depending on what you are looking to do is going to determine your answer. Whichever you are trying to do is the answer to your question.

There is a lot of research where some people think sugar is worse where others think salt is worse. In all honestly, I monitor both but watch my simple sugars more closely. I'd rather go over my sodium and retain some water versus eating simple sugars which the liver will turn into fat. So water retention or fat?

I would not use MFPs default setting of 1,200 calories. It's not a one size fits all. Use a macro calculator, such as IIFYM.com and use that to determine your macros and how many calories you should be eating. With the unlimited meal plan, parties and being a broke college student (fast food and ramen noodles), I gained 40lbs. I didn't even realize it until I saw some unflattering photos of me!
